I watched this while in a hospital bed last year in serious pain with burns on my body. I was rooting for Argentina and felt twice the pain when France equalized. That save by Martinez was legendary. After the penalty shootout even the nurses rushed to my ward when I screamed thinking there was something wrong. The greatest final in world cup history

But 1978, Argentina needed to win by 6 goals to progress against Peru, and they won 6-0. Peruvians were apparently being held hostage. Just accept '78 was rigged.

I have always been a Messi fan watching him loose in 2014, being ousted early in 2018 and finally winning in 2022. You have got to admire Messi's resilience. It's admirable how the Argentina players are somehow calm during the shoot out.

Only sad thing was Diego Maradona was not alive to see Argentina winning their 3rd world cup 💔💔💔💔💔

I can still remember how tense watching this live with my dad at 3am was but will forever be a memory I will cherish.

Reactions of Argentine players are different. The emotions are different. Other nations react to a moment like that as if they won a competition. Argentinians react as if a baby was born, a war has ended, the world was saved. So many fears suddenly vanish. You will never see such genuine human emotion in sport ever again.

True.... I keep saying it was the most unusual expression of emotions after winning such a major silverware Every player reacted differently, Messi just fell on his knees, he knew the pressure was over and the dream had come to a full circle. So unscripted and genuine.
