We've heard enough from the Dutch side from European media after the game, enough of the sore loser excuses and virtue signalling.

The best description I read of this match was something like; _It was like a Quentin Tarantino film. It lasted over two hours, it was violent at times, there were some boring moments, followed by edge of your seat suspense, and it ended in a shootout_ 😁

The Durch still have a trauma of Rob Rensenbrink hitting the post in the near last minute of the 1978 world cup final. That match was even tenser, hosted in Argentina while they were under a military dictatorship, so the pressure was immense. Four years earlier, the Netherlands lost their only final out of the three which they truly should have won. The emergence of total football dominated every country, but they bottled it 1-2 against West-Germany against all odds. However, Cruijff wasn’t able to make it to the 1978 world cup, as his wife and kids were held at gunpoint and tied up during a home invasion, so Cruijff didn’t want to leave them for an extended period of time. Against all expectations, we were in the final as we were four years prior. Our dads always tell us that the players were in serious danger if they won the world cup against Argentina on their turf. Perhaps that is a bit of an exaggeration, idk, But it is true the Dutch boys were willing to die for the world cup which resulted in a brutal final but for us unfortunately we couldnt clutch it. But respect for Argentine, produced wonderful players. Football is unity and respect, war without casualties. Messi has taken a bit of a bad rep in our country due to his actions during QF, but he did apologise and I understand the tension is high, and no one in our country could deny his greatness even during the match

Football is so harsh and unkind ,the argentina boys from 2014 were indeed better , apart from Gonzalo higuain. The 2014 argentina boys didn't conceed a single goal in the knock out stages until that one in the last few seconds in the final . While watching this match with friends at home there was a HUGE thunderstorm and big chunks of hail were falling from the sky, it was crazy, and in the 2nd half of extra time the power was cut off, we ended up all hunching over the only phone which still had signal watching the penalties in agony with the thunderstorm and wind raging in the back. It was such a joy when Lautaro scored... One of the most epic moment in my life

As a dutchie i look back on this game with a smile on my face. It was arguably the most enjoyable game apart from the final. The tension, the agression, the goals, the super late equalizer, it had everything! I also think that the agression went to far a couple of times, but in the end i still look back on this match fondly. I do think it's a shame they only interviewed argentinian players for this bit. They went too far a couple of times as well. Add to that that the media threw some oil on the fire before the game (especially argentinian media) and some questionable refereeing on both sides certainly didn't help to fight those flames😂. It's kind of a shame that that childishness spilled over to the end of the game... again from both sides.

The only interview I can find before the game where he said anything about Di Maria is where he said he was sad that Angel called him "the worst manager he played under" a long time ago, and called him a great player. Also "Old coach that nobody remembers" is of course a bit dumb for a trainer that has won the champions league, super cup, the bundesliga and la liga. He said that he didn't start di maria( who was at his prime) bc he was affected by a family issue by that time, which di maria denied and even if it was true, it's a personal issue. He also said that he knew how to stop Messi and that if the game was going to PKs they were winning for sure. If that's not understimating your rival and trying to destabilize the other team players I don't know what that is. That's why Messi went to celebrate to the dutch bench with his hand in his ears, he never does that, but this time that old guy was quite rude.

It seems since the 1978 World Cup final there is some tension between these two great football nations whenever there is a matchup. Take this game here. Or the heated quarter final game at the 1998 World Cup and Bergkamp's epic last minute winning goal. They only met 10 times at all. Imagine that. (NL against Germany 43 games, Belgium even 127 games).

I remember the final, lots of friends of mine were French and since I was Moroccan I said I’ll be rooting for Argentina. The moment it came to penalties I knew it was over for France, not because Lioris is a bad goalkeeper but Martinez knows how to get in the head of a player.

And he said: if they have to defend Argentina plays with 10 as Messi does not defend. Somehow that ruffled a lot of feathers. Where Messi acted like a complete idiot as he does not defend and never has. The man has always used his strokes of attacking brilliance in passes and dribbles.

how parades did not get a straight red is still a mystery to this day. also messi's blatant handball did not get yellow?? you'd have to be delusional to think this match wasn't rigged. Also posting this so you can only hear argentina's side is just blatant propaganda to justify this rigged match.

The moment I've been waiting for. The Battle of Lusail, which is the second greatest match in 2022 World Cup, only behind the Final itself. So many soap operas with last minute goal for Netherlands, penalty shootout, 18 yellow cards and a red card, as well as, of course, Lionel Messi insulting to Louis Van Gaal! The game that literally made Argentina a "golden boy" for FIFA, just as Barcelona did with the UEFA after the infamous Stamford Bridge scandal in 2009, which started a golden era for Pep Guardiola's team.

When you only watch football every four years:

Argentina were rightfully upset by the Dutch behavior during the shootout which as a Dutchman I really found embarrassing, but I also believe the Argentines were upset because they had the game in hand and got punked by the punkiest free-kick punking in the history of punkdom. Their collective sphincters must have collapsed to the event horizon. I would almost accept failing to qualify for WC 2026 just to have that magnificent punking on the Elftal's resume. Best. Free. Kick. Ever. Argentina giving up 2 late goals was not the only collapse of Argentina's defense in the WC. It happened to them against SA and France as well. This means it was not coincidental. One of the Dutch coaches was furious at van Gaal for stating out loud the Dutch strategy that they believed Messi was vulnerable. And they were right. Argentina's late defensive problems, I believe, resulted from their midfield being tired from making up for Messi's lack of participation in forward defense. This tends to show itself in the last 15 minutes or so of a match, and that's what kept happening to Argentina. So part of the outburst was no doubt for being almost caught out on this strategic weakness. The best strategy would have been to take Messi out at the 80th minute and put in fresh legs, but they couldn't risk a draw at 90 so they left him in. The postgame issues were likely cultural misunderstandings. The expressions on Weghorst's face told me that he was trying to be sincere in the blunt and uncivilized Dutch way, and the Argentines were taking it as aggression. Anyway, Messi apologized for his behavior some days later, much to his credit.
