    A lot of people don't know about the blind plug in the block of the rb26dett. People who remove the stock oil filter/cooler block also remove the oil bypass spring balls. People just slap a sandwich plate on there going to a oil filter relocation kit and oil cooler. This forces all the oil through your filter and can cause a huge oil restriction. Usually causes rod knock, and if you have a N1 oil pump it is even worse because the pump moves so much oil and creates super high oil pressure pre filter. the rb20 and maybe the rb25 have the oil bypass spring ball directly in the block, so a sandwich plate doesn't cause issues. So for rb26dett owners the best thing to do is to remove the blind plug and install a oil bypass spring ball. Not saying that happened here, I'm just saying it will give you piece of mind. I had my rb26dett tuned by Jeff and she's still running strong.

    Hmm, I slapped a samich plate on mine, tuned with a couple sessions already but this didn't happen to me, knock on wood. So you're saying oil bypasses the filter? I don't see how because there's a feed and return. Please elaborate if you can, thanks.

    I think what he's saying is that the oil just can't get to where it needs to get to efficiently because it's restricted and not flowing correctly

    all car makers have a bypass system so if your filter gets clogged the oil bypasses the filter and continues through your system via the oil return gallery. So if you get high pressure the metal ball moves and the spring compresses. letting the oil bypass the filter. if you have a sandwich plate directly on the engine block then you removed these oil bypasses. not saying something will go wrong but a lot of people in Australia who circuit race or have a high power rb26dett do the mode. especially if your at high rpms a lot of the time. it can also cause filter ballooning. best thing to do is have a oil pressure gauge pre filter on the oil filter relocation kit and post filter somewhere on the block. and an exterior oil drain from the back of the head to the oil pan.

    Daniel Quimby bullshit rod knock from to much oil ???!!! and i live in Australia and have worked on many skyline models and all gtr models expect r35 because thats not a real gtr or a car people here in oz can really afford anyways this car have too much rep here everyone has them if you want real power from this engines just build a 26/30 with a 3.2 litre stroker crankshaft from nitto motorsport here in oz you have torque and top end power

    Gaz Girl not saying too much oil, I'm saying , not enough because there is restriction prefilter. so you won't have enough oil pressure post filter. go to platinum racing from Sydney and look at their products

    you should add a "Pull" counter to the video. I think for those that have never been to a good tuning spot, they should see how many it takes to get something dialed in at a good place, instead of a 3 pull dyno session thats plaguing the industry.

    Shame about the problem, but then its a 25+ year old engine, and these things get ridden hard and put away wet. No one buys a Skyline to go to the shops and back once a week. Enjoying the vids, keep up the good work!

    Welcome to RB26 ownership, these cars are 25 years old. Shoudlnt touch tuning an RB26 until you fully rebuild it just waiting for the inevitable Also the Power FC is ancient, use a Link G4 with closed loop lambda and knock control. Wouldn't have prevented rod knock tho

  • @jasaircraft
    @jasaircraft5 жыл бұрын

    Hi Evan there is an easy trick to confirm a rod bearing faillure, unplug either an injector or a coil to every cylinder until the knocking stops, wherever it stops its that cylinder... if it doesnt then its not rod. Awesome tuning but too oldschool ems for today's standards.

    Yes, they generally hold up at that power level with no issues. We have seen several RBs over the years with oiling issues, which seems to be the weak link.

    my guess is cheap oil/tight clearances, even with oiling mods, the clearances could be too tight for a cheaper oil, probably made too much cylinder pressure and squeezed the oil out from in between the bearing and crank journal. Sucks to see.

    This sucks man. He should have just left it on spring pressure and been happy with that for awhile until he was ready to build it. Keep pushing that stock bottom end and the chances of this happening increases exponentially. Gotta build it to sustain 520-530whp reliably, and I don't care what anyone says. You don't cheap out when it comes to big power, and that's from experience lol.

    There are a lot of factors that go into the issue. The motor could have had poor maintenance during its previous years and previous owners. You never know with some of these cars, best to either try for power and get lucky with moderate compression or learn the hard and expensive way.

  • @BlackWhiteBeast

    @BlackWhiteBeast

    garrett2jz Yeah that's true. You never know the true history of these cars when they've gone through multiple owners. Hopefully it wasn't his daily driver because if it was he shouldn't have pushed his luck on the unknown history of his stock bottom end. Then again, hindsight is 20/20 lol. I've pushed my luck a few times on different stock bottom end setups, but I thoroughly understood that it was on borrowed time, and I definitely had a daily driver on the side.

    Exactly, who knows how it was kept. Lack of oil changes, or rubbish fuel quality causing pre-ignition, who knows. If the owner didn't inspect the bottom to take in consideration of it's age, then he's silly for expecting the engine to achieve his goals.

    Lack of oil in the bottom end also why rev it passed 7000 rpm and with not aftermarket oil pump and oil restricter in the deck of the block ,one more thing you always need to let a stock bottom end car or any skyline thats modified to warm up and oil build correct oil pressure and temperature
