    Gm and Dodge screwed the pooch when they cancelled their turbo cars. Cobalt SS and SRT4. Both cars get great fuel economy in a performance car for low money.

    I think they jumped on the tuner market too late. If they had come in about 3 years earlier they would have made a lot more money off of these cars.

    @@RetroCheater81 yeah like their Turbo sport cavalier concept that they scrapped. I'd like to know what idiot cancelled that one. They could have gotten in a lot earlier on the sport compact performance market.

    @@mysliwya mine is a pretty good car, it has issues, the main one being electrical, the other was it eating up map sensors because of oil blow by which is a common thing with boosted cars. EPA wont allow factory catch cans and most people don't want to have to drain a can. Other than that with even the factory gms1 upgrade they are pretty quick for what they are. There are many people with minor bolt ons and a tun walking on cars that cost 2x-3x the price.

    Just a tip from my personal experience... if u want more boost and power higher up in the rpm range, you have to add fuel, and possibly timing, in the higher rpm ranges to keep the Kr away. The key to that is to change your multipliers on your maf correction base table. My Pe is .86 from 5200 up and .87 prior to that and even leaner down low for a quick spool. That may or may not be the way to do things, but it works for me as I also play with the optimum spark tables which can help a lot as well but it's fairly complex and I haven't touched these things in about 4 years... next summer I'll be playing again since I'll have my car completed finally. Smoothness in your tables pays dividends as well as matching similar tables to similar peaks in that they all work together with the Bosch which is also where the opti's come into play... they're dangerous to a novice though in that if you go too much, you could experience stuck Wot for example. I created my opti tables several years ago and have no need to touch them anymore, but the stock opti tables are kinda crappy, as is most of the stock tune Lol. I have 18º of timing at 7000 rpm with no Kr running 94 pump with a bottle of Nos octane boost per tank with this setup. 7000 is obviously higher than stock, but that's simply because I have the ported zzp head and cams on mine.. the springs & retainers are absolutely necessary to exceed the stock rev limit on a larger than stock turbo. That being said, she pulls to the redline of 7500 like a freight train with the same turbo as this car you tuned.. very similar setup. I've never dyno'd it but my guess has always been right around 440 to the wheels and since you got this particular one to 420, I'd say you're not far off from the max and my guesstimate is pretty close. I tuned it on the track and attained 124mph on my 4th revision for reference... it was, and always is, a work in progress though. The only real Kr issues I seem to get are somewhere between 2000-3400 rpm light load(~60) regular driving which from what I've read in a recent article is mainly due to the direction injection and the crap that can build up on the cylinder walls.... I guess they like to be driven a little on the hard side to keep them clean and happy which would explain why these cars like to "hot lap" at a dragstrip as they get a tenth or two quicker in about 4 straight passes Lol. I'm curious about your injection window angles though, as I know nothing about that and am not really a tuner. I had another guy show me the basics way back in about 2010/11 (got tired of Trifecta and his ridiculous Kr issues.. lucky my engine didn't blow) and did the rest myself with the exception of the cam tables and those injection windows; I got them from zzp and it just works so far. I'm adding opel injectors now, and have also added a ported aftermarket exhaust manifold and had a buddy port my intake manifold. Also added the forge diverter valve as the stocker isn't very good for high boost and liked to flutter a lot even though I was only at 24psi on my initial tunes. Also have a new spark plug style to try, and if they work as advertised (boosted coyotes going 8s), up goes the boost. Mine has been down since early 2014 as it developed the dreaded porous block issue, so I'm in the process of bolting a new block (girdled with rods, pistons & nbs) to my setup. It should be pretty damn good for a car everybody hates on("Slowbalt"). It's just too bad that everything else these days is getting retardedly fast too but I'm sure I'll break a few hearts in town anyways haha You sound like a good tuner.. was impressed with what you were saying and that you actually took the time to look into it before tuning it like a port injected car and sending it away like the other shop did :/ Gj man

    Great results Jeff. 70+ hp gain from water-methanol injection is fantastic. You should talk the owner into going E30 and spraying the meth on top of that. I am seeing more and more people especially VW GTI/Golf R Mark 7 owners going this route.

  • @PurpleHeartVR

    @PurpleHeartVR

    Your can get a 70HP gain from complete stock to bolt ons. Stock wheel is 245 and bolt ons and tune on e47-e54 which is what alot of people do here, they see 330wheel. So 90HP gain.

  • @dj4monie

    @dj4monie

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes because the car has a K04 turbocharger. You can safely push over the stock 245 hp. But the EFR6758 started 20-30 hp over maxing out the K04 and then gained another 70 hp, for a total of 90-100 hp over what you can get MAX out of the stock turbo. From stock that is a 200 hp gain which is normal for a factory turbo car with an upgraded turbo.

  • @PurpleHeartVR

    @PurpleHeartVR

    He gained 70 hp over stock turbo but gained no more torque. Plus he really should be went with a 5th injector and went e85 rather than 91 and meth. Lots of gains to be made.

  • @dj4monie

    @dj4monie

    6 жыл бұрын

    You don't need anymore torque until you can figure out how to manage 400 lbs without wheel spin. It's easy to figure out and it doesn't involve running slicks or drag radials daily. Also since this video could be seen by anybody, he could make even more if he stepped up to direct injection water-methanol because for many people ethanol is not easy to get. I stopped running E30 in my ST because my closest pump is 13 miles out of my way. You can make within 1-2% of E85 with 50/50 as long as you size your system correctly for the output you want.

    He can easily make 400 hp with that turbo on that engine. Just won't happen on pump gas of any kind. You have a choice of increasing injectors and fuel pump to run E85 and other blends of ethanol. Or you can buy water methanol kit from Snow or AEM and run a failsafe with Hondata S300 Either way you can make 400+ hp on that turbo, stock block.

    Awesome work! Just curious, with having the car and driving/diagnostics if the issues before tuning as well as dyno tuning, how much do you charge? Is it flat rate or still hourly?

  • @EvansTuning

    @EvansTuning

    7 жыл бұрын

    As long as tuning is what is happening, it falls under the flat rate fee. I've tuned the newer GM direct injection turbo engines (Cadillac ATS-V); however, this specific application was new for me so there was a bit of a learning curve. When I get new platforms in for tuning that I'm trying to figure out, I put extra time into them so that I'm efficient moving forward the next time one comes in. Everything related to this particular tuning session was all tuning related, short of the spark plug change (this is not something we typically charge extra for anyway -- unless of course, it's on something like a Subaru that takes a substantial amount of time to change them). If there had been mechanical issues that took up significant time to correct, that would have been billed at an hourly labor rate.

    Unfortunately, the tuning schedule is just too busy at this time of year to film something like that. Maybe if it slows down this winter...

    It is not difficult, there are more things to change to get the desired result simple. I have a Focus ST, it has the same issues as Jeff alluded too with the Focus RS episode.
