    At what point would you turn a car away because it's too much hassle to keep screwing with? People showing up with a car not even remotely close to being able to be tuned seems just and a giant waste of the tuners time. I guess if they're willing to pay for the work it's fine but still.

    Besides the coolant it was a normal tune. All of these things are checked and adjusted most of the time. He didnt even have to do much work on the tune to get it to the power needed.

    The unfortunate part of this tuning session is that the owner of the car didn't build it to the extent that he'd know every last detail. He took this car to another shop that 'tuned' it, but half of the things that he was told were set up, were not actually set up. The previous map that was in there had damaged the engine, so he didn't want to chance starting it on the old tuner's map. It's unfortunate because the owner put his trust and money into another shop to do the right thing for his car. Someone who doesn't have tuning knowledge or extensive mechanical relies on a shop to know this stuff. There is no way he would have known coming in that the previous shop never set up the things that he was told were set up.

    Been here and done that. I have to say if it wasn't for Evan helping me / being patient through a bunch of noob mistakes (like leaving the wastegate o ring off/waiting for me to buy a battery), I would have wasted a 6 hour drive to get it tuned by him. So thank you, Evan, for being patient with all of the noobs (me in 2005) and all of the pros, who make mistakes.

    I have a different level of respect for tuners, especially JEFF, after watching this series. It's incredible the amount of automotive knowledge ,outside of tuning , you have to have. I wouldn't have the patience to spend an hour fixing stuff so I can do what I'm being paid to do. Information is a dollar bottle.

    You really cant not know what your doing or it will show in the tune like the tune he worked on. You try to set everything up right but stuff always happens on the dyno. You always need to expect the unexpected. Ive driven over an hour in the car that was getting tuned and still had multiple things come up more then once. Its why you pay 550 and schedule 4 hours for a tune.

    it seems like the owners were giving you more problems than the car. needed the whole group of them to answer simple questions. seems like they built a proper car but do they need 10 guys to come and watch the dyno and answer questions about how old the sparks plugs were? I hope you guys put out more vids

    I don't understand why folks don't make sure their car can START and somewhat idle. Your tuner should be able to get you a setup file so you can at least trouble should leaks, electrical connections, sensors, etc before showing up.

  • @duanebailey6253

    @duanebailey6253

    7 жыл бұрын

    Jeffrey there are so many things that need to be set or can be tweaked to change the idle he was messing with everything so its hard to tell. The timing was way outta wak so that alone changes the idle. They might not want to touch the ECU as its very complex and the pulse width setting is enough to gernade the motor. May run fine at 14 volts but when it drops from the fan turning on or anything drawing power things change which is why you pay so much at a dyno tune. This is a normal tune on a honda car shit always needs to be done. You may need one piece for it to run and you just bring the car in and do it there. They have checklists to go over for most things but since they are doing so much in one session im sure all this was discussed before hand and they paid extra.

    Duane Bailey what does that have to do with overheating? Car didnt have IAC so he adjusted the idle screw and tweaked ignition timing. other than the tps and fuel trim what else is there to really mess with to get a old Honda to idle?

  • @duanebailey6253

    @duanebailey6253

    7 жыл бұрын

    I know I was giving reasons why someone wants this done by a tuner never mind if they wanted to break the engine in on the dyno. They act like so much was needed for the car to run. Maybe the fuel pressure changed. TPS can be changed from the ECU so its just setting voltage. But could be enough that he needed to mess with the screw this is all normal on the dyno all I was saying. So many parameters need to be gone through that it makes it tough because a simple crank trim may not be right on a 80 degree day causing no start but starts fine in 50 degrees and on and on. Neptune/eCtune/hondata have amazing details in them for affordable systems.

  • @jeffreymoore4132

    I'm not slamming the car owners. Things happen. I get it. It's happened to me-I've had brand NEW parts fail during dyno time. I've also boosted a few hondas and getting them to start and idle on some of the software that is out there is not *that* difficult. And if your can pop a motor during idle, that's news to me (not sure if that's what you meant). I'd argue the cylinder pressures aren't high enough to crack ringlands and sleeves. You can fuel wash though if you're scaling/pulse widths are wrong. Also, that's why I mentioned your turner should be able to get you an initial start map, just so you can make sure the motor is ready. I get paying the tuner to help trouble shoot.

  • @RGHTBrainDesignDrive
    @RGHTBrainDesignDrive7 жыл бұрын

    The scariest part of all this is the owners of that car probably run a shitty shop like DNR Performance here in Hayward, CA, where no one has a clue as to how to tune or even simple things like checking spark plugs for fouling/gapping correctly for the application. They probably have dozens of dumb-kid customers who just throw money at them for making their cars "drag race" better. They couldn't even source a correct fuel pump for the application... THANKFULLY, someone ran ID2000s and consulted you, Jeff. Great work, as always.

    Jeff, ive read about and have seen a lot of people not bothering with vtec and making their b and k series engines run on high cam all the time as to bypass the drop in oil pressure that occurs with vtec engaging while the turbo is doing its thing. is this car still running vtec? and if so, how does tuning a turbo vtec car differ from traditional engines?
