    Hey Jeff, I really can appreciate the attention to detail you provide, I don't know dick about tuning but I can tell that you know exactly what your talking about and you don't bullshit nobody, you keep it straight. If I ever get the chance to build another car I know where I'm getting it tuned 100%

    Also, n00btarded question.. If there was a way to trick the throttle to stop closing would you do it or is that something the ecu relies on heavily? I'm assuming since you didn't talk about disabling it that you can't get around this or it's something the ecu needs to protect the engine and more... I also have no clue wtf im talking about so yeah... thx for the vids!

    Grant Sherwood There is, if you understand the torque model on these Fords and where to chase out the torque reduction, it's witchcraft honestly. You are correcting a torque model that Ford puts in place to control the throttle and driveability, mess it up and you don't have control of the throttle anymore. Ecoboost cars actually use throttle to control boost AFAIK. I think some tuners prefer this as they claim that starting to crack the wastegate to control boost results in too large of a drop in exhaust pressure and a slight drop in performance. You can really make them do whatever you want to, you just have to figure it out. Jeff put it well in a radio show he did with Sloppy Mechanics. He said that Ford stuff is so complicated that the people that figure it out are pretty much exclusively Ford tuners, they have to invest so much into getting these cars right, that they can't really afford to do anything else.

    That is not true at all. Investments have to be made true enough, but not more than anything else. The type of investment he was talking about was taking classes and reading online since Cobb has a fairly comprehensive training program around the Ecoboost. It's not difficult it's a different way of thinking around torque management. But using the throttle is nothing new, Caliber SRT-4/Evo X are more difficult to tune vs their previous iterations because they also liked used a strategy of closing the throttle.

    I mean, most people that tune ford vehicles only tune ford vehicles, you will quickly see a trend if you look around. I think messing with all 32 torque/torque inverse tables is pretty difficult. It's not torque management, it's torque based driveability. Not to mention the quadratic speed density.

    Do not dyno on all four wheels. You must put the RS in Dyno mode which is front wheel drive only. You will get whacky numbers trying to Dyno in AWD. to get dyno mode turn the RS on but don't start the engine, put the clutch in and the brake pedal on then move the stick shift from neutral to reverse 6 times. You will see a red light flash on the speedo. You are in Dyno mode now. Hope this helps. I have an RS ..335whp. Beast mode.

    I figured with the overdriven rear diff that hooking the rears up would throw off the dyno reading because it's got a mechanical advantage over the fronts.

    The Dynapack dyno maintains the hub speed, so all the hubs are spinning at the same RPM. During dyno pulls I can see the differences in hub rpm and they were all within a few % of each other.

    Do you have anything against setting all the high load (.90 to 1.00, NA car for example) cells of all the mapped points to the same values (your desired WOT timing)? My car, not an RS, weighted a little bit of almost every single table.

  • @EvansTuning

    @EvansTuning

    7 жыл бұрын

    No. In fact, I've done the same thing on other Fords in the past; however, if you are speaking full throttle timing you can enable the OP timing map which will effectively make the ignition timing ride on one single map. Other things in the tune need to be set up around the OP map functioning properly.

  • @AKDMB

    @AKDMB

    7 жыл бұрын

    Evans Tuning Yeah, my strategy had mapped point OP enabled, it would still never use consistently over 80% weighting.

    Not on every car, but yes. Most newer cars that don't have a built engine, cams, external wg with dump tubes, the knock sensor calibration from the factory is spot on. You can rely on knock data in this car.

    All newer vehicles that are using a Bosch PCM have some form torque-based model. Some are more complex than others. Ford happens to be one of the more complicated ones.

  • @joedoole3527
    @joedoole35275 жыл бұрын

    Ford torque management is horrible indeed, especially on EcoBoost vehicles. Coyote S550 Mustangs are riddled with torque limits as well. Ultimately I think that's their warranty minimizing tactic to save abuse on components. The EcoBoost setups use terrible stock intercoolers as well, a few pulls or seconds worth of WOT heat and the ecu throws you that sweet little message that it's limiting power to prevent engine damage and then it goes crazy with torque limits to drop heat. Most EcoBoost vehicles with just a intercooler, downpipe, and good tune will drive like a totally different vehicle with no exaggerations.

    While that could be partially true, it's also the job of the calibration engineer that programs the PCMs from the factory to maintain full control over the engine in all condition and be able to ship the cars with a warranty. It's a balancing act on a performance car to be able to deliver performance buyers are seeking while maintaining 100K+ miles reliability.

    Sorry to disappoint, but here are a few things you should know: 1. I'm 5'11" and about 185 pounds. 2. I'm not lazy. 3. Because of number 2, I get my ass out of bed early every morning and exercise. 4. I also workout every evening after I've put in a full day of work. 5. I don't eat shit food. That means, no fast food, no sugar. I eat out maybe 4-5 times a year. 6. I drink water. No soda, no alcohol, no sugary drinks. 7. I've never taken steroids in my life. 8. My arms look larger than normal in this video because they were resting on the seat bolstering in the RS. Would love to see the documentation supporting your claim that I'm 2x more unhealthy being my size, exercising, and eating well. Please post a link to where I can read about this. P.S. I film this series with the intention of allowing people to get a glimpse into what tuning sessions actually look like. For this one specifically, I wanted people to know what goes into tuning the newer Ford PCMs. I'm really, truly sorry that you were too distracted by body to focus on the content.

    I'm not sure how lean mass contributes negatively to your health? It increases resting metabolic rate which helps consume fat. Having less body fat makes your muscles more insulin sensitive which allows them to more readily absorb insulin which is beneficial for its anabolic properties!
