You are a lifesaver! Just took a really really bad heat valve out of my 91 Accord wagon. Like, the little too white part had melted away and fallen inside, and the only thing holding coolant in was the screw. 😂 Thanks so much.

good video, have a 92 ex wagon, always had an overheating problem and with that valve closed the heat build up against the valve from the coolant in the line basically 'melted' the plastic inlet end of valve, and the end of the hose into it.....and whooosh, massive steam cloud of coolant............and i could tell that little valve is all which needed replacing but i couldn't figure how i was gonna get past the engine to get the other end off the hose going through the firewall.......

Great video @tubejim101 as always. I had a plan to do such a job on my Toyota Corolla. In such car there is no coolant valve available in design for heater core. Instead heater is control through air baffle and coolant is passing all the time whole year through heater core. As we are living in a very hot region where it is hot for nine month per year. So it is not needed to heat up a car for nine months a year. According to my understanding it is not feasible to pass coolant in heater core for all the time if it is needed or not needed. I am planing to setup a manual type value in the engine compartment to manually control the coolant when it is needed for three months a year. I would film it and will upload to my channel. Regards,

Hello, My heat doesn't work on a 1992 honda accord. When looking for the problem I noticed there was no coolant in the overflow tank, even with the engine warmed up. I refilled it. However, the level in the radiator did not look to be low. Do you think it is possible that there could be air in the heater core because of the low coolant, causing there to be no heat? Or is it probably the heater control valve? The heater hose does not get hot, but the wire does open and close it. Thanks.

I'm doing this same job on a 2004 Honda Pilot. Same technology 14 years later. In viewing your video, I noticed the "key" on the top of your old control valve was still there. I suspect to get your heater to work, all you needed to do was to tighten the screw that holds the lever onto the key. On mine, the key was worn off, so it would't spin the valve even after tightening the screw. This was a common problem and solution in the piloteers.org website. foto21com - on my pilot, turning the screw/lever clockwise closes the valve. Counterclockwise opens it = heat!! To test it, take the screw off and pull the lever off the key. Or in my case, slide it off. lol. Then put the screw back in, tighten it and you should be able to see the top of the valve move. Make sure you have your temp turned all the way to hot, then turn the valve counterclockwise. Run your car till you see the temperature gauge go up, then check to see if the air is warm or not. If it it's warm, you've found where it's open. If not, turn it the other direction and you should be good. You can leave it in that position as a temporary fix. I did that on my way to pick up the heater control valve - it was 14 degrees F!!

I hear you. Before I fixed it, I would pop the hood, and set it by hand. Thanks for sharing about the Pilot info. Have never worked on a Pilot before.

I cant find anywhere which setting is warm and which is cold? Is that lever pushed at 5o'cloclk the setting for heat, or is it set at 1 o'clock? My cables are being weird and disconnected from the POS plastic dial behind the dash, so I'm just trying to manually move the lever to get my heat back, since my fan is fine. But I cannot get hot air out, and my radiator was recently replaced as well. I'm wondering if the heater core was toasted while the radiator was bad. I'll find out... ok, thanks, at 16:37, you state that down is set to hot. I wish it was working. Damn its cold...

If you are not getting heat, and moving the lever correctly. Then you most likely have air in your lines. Will need to bleed and burp the system. kzread.info/dash/bejne/n5qIw9KRYKfbgZM.html

Does the antifreeze always flow thru the heater core or does that valve stop it until you call for heat. I have a leaking heater core and I need to replace it but if the antifreeze isn't constantly flowing through the core I can wait a while.

Stops flowing until you open the valve. You will most likely get air in your cooling lines.

Awesome video. My heat is out on my 93 accord. My A/C is working fine and coolant is good. The cable on my heater control valve is not moving when turning heat and off so that must be it right? If one releases the cable and manually opens the valve, will it stay open and the heat be controlled by dash controls or does it not work that way?

Look under your center dash area. Some times the cable comes out of the clip. The cable works like a bicycle brake cable. If you need heat, you can always pop the hood, and move the heater valve by hand, till you can figure out whats going on.

Hello, I have a 1993 Accord SE and I'm having the issue that my temp knob is acting like it's stripped. It seemed to happen gradually and then it finally stripped totally. It's winter and I'm glad it stuck in highest heat mode. My question is, is it the part you replaced in your video, can the head unit have anything to do with it. I noticed some people are changing head units, are they wrong and doing something unnecessary. It seems to me it's the part you replaced. PLEASE HELP.

If you are getting heat, it is not the heater core. Heater cores usually leak when they go bad. You can disconnect the cable from the valve in the engine bay. Then move the temp knob all the way cold, then check the cable position. Then move the temp knob to all the way hot, and check the cable position. One knob position will make the cable short, and the other position will make the cable long. If that is working, then with the cable still off, manual move the valve all the way to one side. It will either be hot or cold. Check the temp in the cab. Then move the valve all the way to the other side. And check the cab temp. Should be the opposite temp in the cab. If the cable move, but the valve does not change the temp, then it should be the valve.

I positive it's not the heater core, the temp knob controller inside the car is acting like it's stripped and is not doing anything to change temp. The knob is not cracked, it's seems the cable can't be adjusted anymore. I looked under hood and saw that the cable is in the pulled out position which I believe it means the temp adjustment is turned all the way to the hottest position. My question is, why isn't the temp knob not controlling the cable anymore. Something is broke or snapped. Lastly, when summer comes and I need air cond, can I go under hood and push that cabe you were showing in the video in all the way and the temp will be in the cold position.

@@markpalladino572 The cable mechanism works a lot like a bicycle cable. You need to do the tests I describe, to see what is going on. If the valve is stuck, it could cause what you are talking about. If you determine the valve is fine, your next step is to figure out why the cable is not moving the valve. There are clips that the cable could have popped out of, but that is down the road.
