Very nicely done tutorial. Easy to follow. The tools used are very handy reference as I don't have those hose clip pliers. Didn't know they exists.The camera is on a tripod (steady) and not giving me a headache trying to follow the hose location. Thank you.
These are great instructional videos. You're a good communicator. Thanks for doing this!

Ray Allen thank you! not a problem at all, glad you liked it!
Just did this on our 97 Accord. Hose blew on the way to work this morning. Took the part number you provider to the parts store it was and back up and running an hour later. I didn't need to remove the distributor. Excellent vid, thanks for the help! (and part number).

@@youareanythingbutordinary4511 _ I just reached under there with a pair of pliers, pinched the clamp and wiggled it off. I did remove the air intake, to make a little more room to work.

@@donewithutube yeah just got mine done last night and basically did the same just the hose end under the distributor was very gummy due to oil leaking on it overtime and took a while to get off but its possible : )
These video's are great, I've used your thermostat, heater hose, distributor o-ring videos. Nice you listed the part number on Amazon. Thanks!

thanks you just made me very happy with your explanation of how the heater hose could possibly need to be replaced...ty

t penn thank you! unfortunately, we don't have this car anymore.
Thank you so much for doing this video! I used it as a guide to replace the heater hose on my 2000 Accord EX, and it saved me a lot of time. The hose on the 2000 is a little different shape, but the procedure is essentially the same. You were right about everything, like the oil dripping onto the hose blows it up and softens the rubber. That's exactly where mine was leaking, and the hose was all puffed up there. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to mention that the distributor and air intake tube need to be removed to get better access to the hose. At about one minute into the video, they both are gone, but there isn't a mention of how to do it.

Sure thing, I'll add a card to this video so the removal of the air box and distributor video will show with a link.
Thanks a lot, very helpful.
My problem is the parts stores don't have a match for my hose its the same as the one u installed and I'm not finding it on line either, I took the old in but I don't think they even looked for a match they just get the one their computer shows, guess u don't know the part number by chance?
Nice vid definitely was helpful
hey, great video. but I was curious for the back two heater core hoses do I have to remove the intake?? I'm confused

to get access to the heater hose, you will have to remove the air box out of the way.
Good video. Seems to be about the same as a 95 civic, which is what I'm working on
thanks! will give this a try tomorrow

Had the same problem on my 97 accord,i fixed the o ring on the distributor a few years back i just recently noticed the car smelling like coolant from under the hood. I noticed the swollen hose were it connects to the head from the oil that leaked all over it and broke it down.The rest of the hose was in good shape.I have 200,000 miles i keep up on all the honda recommended schedule maintenance. it runs great my only other problem i have had is the oil sending unit was leaking oil
Thanks OP.

Is this similar in a 1996 Honda Civic? I am having an overheating issue and found a leak on a similar looking hose but I am having a hell of a time trying to identify which hose it is.
@NutzAboutBolts

You need to do a coolant pressure testing to make sure which hose is leaking.
I have a leak coming from that same area it is bad enough where it makes the car over heat do you think it could be that heater hose?
@NutzAboutBolts

kcchopshop fix the leak first and check if it makes a difference. Can't really tell until you fix one thing and figure if its that or not.
thank you
your videos are very knowledge able ...but I needed to see how the distributer cam off

That would be in the distributor video we posted
thanks man - this video is exactly what i need. i''ve got a leak in my 99accord. there was a crack in the radiator so i replaced that, but i'm still leaking oil far back near the block. since the only other thing i can think of is a cracked engine block, i'm praying it's the heater hose. sure enough my distributor is leaking oil and my hose was swollen like yours - however i can't see any obvious signs of leakage. could my problem be even further up past the temperature bypass switch? i hope it's not the outflow hose because i can't even see that under the camshaft area let alone figure out how to get to it without taking the engine out.

heater hose leak would look more like coolant down there than oil... I would visually check whats back there and clean off the oil and then check back on it within a few weeks to see where the leaks coming from.

+NutzAboutBolts whoops, said oil meant coolant.

b one way to find out if its the heater hose is to remove and check it, squeeze it and see if it feels spongy or not. Check if there's coolant residue around the area or not, if it is, then I would suggest a bad hose or clamps causing the end to leak out.
@nialljamesbuckley

+NutzAboutBolts yep. The hose is very squishy and those clamp marks are super deep. I just see no obvious leaks. I makes sense though. I know the system is under pressure so maybe I just don't see the holes.

b I would change out the hose since its squishy.

Hey bud, great video once again. Any chance you could make a vid of doing this on a 2003-2007 model accord? My wife's 2003 accord has no heat and I'm thinking of cleaning out the heater hoses but not sure where they are exactly. Anyways, appreciate the video and subscribed to your channel.

damannoa No heat is more likely broken servo in the heater box or broken heater valve, Heater valve is what controls the coolant flow. If hose were clogged it would eventually get hot.
@damannoa
9 жыл бұрын
NutzAboutBolts Well, the heat very seldom works. Like once in a week when I blast the heat hot air eventually comes out. Usually when I blast the heat after the car is warmed up It does blow air but it's cold air most of the time. I got some tips that the thermostat might be plugged and the heater core hoses could be plugged so I wanted to start with that. Let me know what you think. Last thing I want to do is replace the entire heater core which we all know is a massive project. Thanks.
@NutzAboutBolts

the heater hoses a pretty large diameter to be clogged. Most likely the heater core is clogged. Its like a radiator with lots of smaller passages.
TYTY you're awesome!
did you have to reset your engine timing after taking off the distributer

Someone else mentioned the distributor, you said the problem with the heater hose is the distributor was leaking oil onto the hose. I'm working on my step daughter's car and I like fixing the root problem so I don't have to keep replacing the heater hose. Can you link to a video that shows how to fix the distributor so I can fix the whole problem?
@NutzAboutBolts

+Brian Remmerde if you use our search option, search up distributor o-ring replacement. The problem with the distributor is that the o-ring over time get worn out and starts leaking oil from there, then the oil leaks down to the heater hose and starts causing the hose to deteriorate and becomes spongy. So if you replace the distributor o-ring in a timely manner before it leaks, that'll prevent damage to the heater hose.

This combination of the two videos, one about replacing the top heater hose and the other about replacing the distributor o-ring were perfect, spot on! I replaced the hose and when I touched the o-ring with my screwdriver, it crumbled. When I had taken out the distributor bolts, the distributor just fell out of it's hole. When I replaced it, there was a definite resistance to being put in and when replaced the oil leak stopped completely! I was working on a 1.6 honda civic ex but the procedure is the same as this acura, the battery is in a different location but that's all. Both of these videos were excellent, left nothing out and made things perfectly clear, I couldn't ask for better help than I got from NutzAboutBolts! Thanks very much!

Okay got it
You show a good work of replacing the heater hose. But one thing at the last you use WD-40 to spray on rubber hose for lubrication. WD-40 is not good to work on rubber. The will damage the rubber after certain time. How about a detergent water solution may be better than. Good Job Show...

This is straight from their FAQ website. WD-40® Multi-Use Product can be used on just about everything. It is safe to use on metal, rubber, wood and plastic. It can also be applied to painted metal surfaces without harming the paint. Polycarbonate and clear polystyrene plastic are among the few surfaces on which to avoid using a petroleum-based product like WD-40® Multi-Use Product.

Silicone spray is a lot better.
Don't spray WD on it that's the very reason it blown in the first place from oil getting on the hose.
