    this is a great video, but If you've followed all these instructions and the panel still does not come off you're in for a wild ride, here's what to do: check behind the cruise control switch AND rear defrost switch for brackets/screws (if you can take them out without losing them all the better) then try again, if you can move the one side freely but the side by the HVAC knobs is still firm then you got some work ahead of you. open the Center Console and pop the panel open on the bottom and remove the screws in there then pull out the cup holder and unscrew the screws in there and remove the whole piece (console and cup holders. you may have to pull up your parking brake to get it off) then take out the screws by the shift knob and then ( there may not be a screw here) pull out the little storage bin to the left of the lighter and check for a screw behind there, after all 3 screws are out you should be able to ease it out (don't yank it too hard) and reach behind and unplug the hazard switch and clock and remove the panel(you probably have to insert your key in to the shift release by the shifter and put the car in Drive so make sure you won't roll if you do). and Viola! my guess is if you reach in there and feel upwards you will find 2 annoying screws that are holding the panel in place. when I put everything back together I chose not to put those screws back in because they're almost useless, also I didn't replace the screw behind the storage compartment by the lighter so next time you need to pop the panel off its a 10 minute job instead of an hour. Good luck!

    I just did this job today (03/29/24) and this guy is correct. There is also no need to remove clam shell surround from steering column. Once you have the arm rest/cup holder thing off and the ash tray, radio, cigarette lighter surround off, look into the whole where the radio was and look up under the climate control buttons. There should be two screws, remove them and the instrument cluster surround is now loose. Unfortunately, after doing all this work, the cable was not my problem. The clip is still tight and the cable moved properly within the plastic sleeve. My problem was the actual switch or turn dial for the hot/cold indicator. The back of my switch was broken/cracked. It could no longer grip the shaft to turn the cable. So I wasted an hour trying to fix the cable when I could have seen the broken turn dials when I pried off the buttons. I am such a jackass. 😅😅😅

    I have a 96 accord and my cable was dis connected, so I was pretty happy to see! And after a couple of new knobs for temp and fan spd from my honda dealer for 5 bucks I'm back! Thank you for the help. Ps. There are 2 screws that need to come out that are not in the video, no big deal though.

    Ahhhh, thank you for the video. I have a 1991 Accord LX and the other day when I moved the temp dial I heard a couple ticks then a small click and then the dial was loose and when I turned it to any position it would only blow cold air. This seems like the issue. Before as you said it actually felt like it was pulling something. My only worry is removing the dash panel as it’s a little more complicated. I will try to fix this tomorrow thank you so much for the video. I will update this comment if it works!

    Nice video. For my 1997 Accord SE the issue was the other end of the plastic sheathing was loose. Short story is before you struggle with removing the dash, have a look at the other end of the cable to see what is happening. If you open the glove compartment and turn the hot/cold nob you can see the black cable moving. From there I followed it down to the upper left of the passenger floor board. There I found the plastic moving away from the connection point with the steel cable not moving. Hold the steel cable while you move hot/cold knob to convince yourself it's not moving. Then I turned the knob so the plastic was almost touching the mounting point. Then I held the plastic firmly in place and turned the hot/cold to hot. I heard the valve open and the heat started (engine was running warm.) Maybe it will need some super glue for a permanent solution or maybe the valve was just stuck. Also make sure your antifreeze coolant is pretty full.

    im not sure if i should do this for my vehicle, but let me explain my problem... i have a 05 chevy cobalt and my heat and a/c work fine. my problem is my setting 3 doesn't work to push any heat or a/c and my floorboard heat and a/c doesn't work at all. it also seems like my rear defroster doesn't work as well. any suggestions as to why this is occurring would be great!

  • @davetheitguy4516

    @davetheitguy4516

    6 жыл бұрын

    If it is the BLOWER that doesn't work on certain settings, it is most likely the fan relay circuit. I'm not sure where that would be on your '05 Cobalt ... but on an '01 Grand Am it is located right next to the blower motor under the front passenger kick panel. Fairly easy to replace and doesn't cost much. If you aren't getting air from certain vents - i.e., you put the setting on "Floor" and the air continues to come out of the upper vents, that is most likely a vacuum leak. Check all your vacuum lines for leaks ... be diligent and patient and you'll find it (if that's what it is.)

    shoot. I came back to review and saw my gross misspelling. I MEANT TO SAY GREAT JOB. What I came back to see is not shown on video, since it seems you were doing the video and the job at the same time, and all we saw was the dash board and panel, as you tried to show where the cable goes to. I'll try to figure that out by myself. Also I didn't see the screw that requires tilting the steering wheel down.

    that screw is in a hole which is covered up by the plastic part of the steering release arm. No need to put it pack, as gravity and friction hold this thing in place.

    Check the blower motor. It's on the passenger front side, under / behind the kick panel by the floor board. Just probe the connector with a multimeter and make sure you're getting voltage when you activate the fan switch. No voltage = electrical problem or problem with the A/C control head. Voltage = bad blower motor, replace blower motor. If you DO need to replace the blower motor - do NOT replace it with anything other than a genuine Honda blower motor. All the aftermarket ones I used were complete junk and failed within 6 months.

    I followed this for my 1996 Honda only to find that the outer cable was still attached to the mechanism. I was able to manipulate the white plastic arm, but not very well with the external control knob, only by directly moving the white arm myself (from "inside" the panel.) I suspect that the mechanism that moves the white arm is the culprit in my case. So for now, I will set it to hot by hand in the winter, and to cold in the summer.

    The heater control cable does not control air, it controls a valve under the hood that allows coolant into the heater core.

    So there isn't any flap at all that moves inside the heater box on these Accords? I've not yet dug into my actual heater box on mine, but I always assumed it was a combination of flapper + coolant valve under the hood. Good to know if it doesn't have a flapper at all. Can you confirm?

    NOTE #1- - If the knob turns but does not click-click-click then the knob might be broken in the rear where it attaches. NO NEED TO TAKE the whole dash apart just yet... Use several 13mm I.D. (inside diameter)washers to go around the plastic part if it is not completely missing but only cracked(it will seem to be able to glue it back together, but no sense wasting your time with just glue ONLY) - USE washers to support the plastic. Guaranteed to work. NOTE #2 -- dont forget the remove the screw far back in behind the Cruise control buttons NOTE #2

    LOL. this is almost a good video....LOL what he did not tell you is... to complete the job as he stated.. you will have to take your middle and stereo deck out too... It's not as easy as he said. You will not be able to pull the climate control fixture out as easy as he stated, because there are more screws underneath the climate control, hidden behind the stereo. Otherwise, you will ripe out the underneath screws and your climate control will wriggle or jiggle as your car bounce. LOL.. I've just changed mine (same car and year) and I ran into a harder job then just a few things like he said. Give him a third credit...LOL this is what you have to do:1 . follow his video (1/3 job done)2. before you can pull out the climate control you will have to remove the middle hand console (3 screws). refer to installing stereo video if you don't know.3 remove stereo fixture cover (3 screws)4 remove stereo holder/plate(2 screws) and unplug the hazard, clock, etc..off the cover.....and then remove the stereo or push it aside.5 underneath, there are 2 more screws holding the climate control. unscrew those screws, then you can pull out the whole climate control as he said. Otherwise, you will find yourself kicking yourself and anything around you when you realize you broke the climate fixture. And it will cost you a lot more money for that part. LOlonce you finish repair etc... do the reverse to put it back together... LOL good luck!
