The real test with these is using them on bolts that are partially ruined and have rust in some cases. That would be a test for mechanics. Also if they twist with using a hand impact.

I am glad you are testing these out Bear, as i am thinking of adding a set of these to my tool drawer, but really wanted input on which brand/variety to purchase. Hopefully this testing helps formulate a decision for me! I like to buy as complete of a set as possible, instead of having to buy multiple sets. I look forward to your next testing video!

Oh boy I have had problems with torx insert bits and assumed the bit-sockets were pretty much the same, so this is going to be fun. I don't know who makes non-impact versions of the single-piece forged ones anymore besides Matco but the one old T25 I have is my life saver when I come across one of these cursed screw types.

No Pittsburgh? I've pretty much have only used the T40 as that's the common size the trucks I work on use for body panels. Been great. Even put it on an impact for a mudflap that used a torx bolt head and it held up quite well. Though, only time can tell how long they will end up lasting

I snapped three in a month on a small impact driver taking freightliner side skirts off.

Bolts used for tested were M8x60 304 Stainless Steel Buttonhead T45. Tensile strength on these bolts is 125k. The strongest steel Torx bolts I could find was listed at 110k.

I’ve twisted a few taking oil drain plugs off the Polarises at work. Wish they’d just use a regular hex head bolt.

I Have the big 87 piece Bluepoint set that I bought because Mack Semi trucks use a lot of torx heads in the cabs, this one was a cab fire.I do know for a fact that you at least need a tool truck quality, like snap on or mac to get the torx bolts out of engines for the engine harness. You need a long T25, or T30 something like that. The reason you need the snap on ones for example is because they are just small enough, aka flush all the way that it will actually fit in the whole to get the torx head out.

The first set I bought was greatneck, snapped them the first weekend. Next set was Husky, snapped them the second use. Now I have some old Craftsmen that broke inside the housing and were brazed back on, they still mostly work, if a little crooked. Would be interested if someone out there makes a decent set.

Foreign made tools and instruments have been getting better for the past many decades. It was just a matter of time when they will be as good if not better than domestically made. Thank Uncle Sam for letting it happen. Bringing the work back will be very difficult because of the lost infrastructure. Designed here and made elsewhere over time becomes meaningless. Without actual physical interaction theory becomes useless.

Need a good 25 torx because a broke 2 the twisted a Grate Neck but it did the job to get out the screws on my Sportsman xp 1000 secondary clutch.

Are you testing the bolts or the tools, they just keep breaking the bolt heads off ? They are all doing the same thing.

I snap one of my torx bits trying to take out seat belt bolts which was a impact Torx but my Ace Hardware Torx bit finish the job

At least with some of those socket driver 3/8" driven things in Hex Snap On is full thickness bit down into the socket, someone else was undercut to fit into a socket that wasn't as big around as it could/should have been-(only in certain sizes is there that undercut) example 11 mm. SK is undercut SnapOn is full bit thickness into the socket part don't remember if some of the torx/torx + ones are like that

Husky makes very good sockets. I use a Husky 1/2 to 3/8 reducer on a 25 in breaker bar to break custom wheels' GM lug nuts torqued to 144 lbs and never an issue. Husky T55's for calipers lol

those all work fine!!! you should test smaller sizes like t5, t10, t15.....

Suggestion on video technique: speed up the video during the time when you twist the sockets to failure. Then report the max torque for each brand.

It’s worth it to get nice ones in the smaller sizes. I broke my craftsman Taiwan T8 after the first use so I bought a snapon one used on eBay

I helped my sister accessorize her brand new wrangler. Taking off the door hardware to mount foot pegs. It was a pain since it was painted over. And this thing is brand new...I can only imagine on something older. Got her this 42 piece $40 Kobalt torx socket set...pretty complete set for her needs. Its served her well so far. And I never thought I would ever need a 3/8 breaker bar but I picked up 1 for me and 1 for her from HF..$10 each. After putting my 3/8 ratchet through that..it convinced me to at least pick up some cheap 3/8 HF breaker bars.

The MAC RBRT Torx bits are the BEST. Those bad boys grip.

I have to wonder just how of these tool companies can stay in business. There is competition as never before. A lot of shops have closed or restricted hours because of CORVID and the technicians are hurting. The tool truck guys have to be really hurting as a result. So many new “me too”tool companies. A lot of knives in the pie!

I purchased a torx set from harbor freight and after about 5 month of use I had one break. Brought it back to the store and then gave me a new one no receipt or questions asked.

star torx bits I usually destroy them using on a 18~20v battery impact hammer/wrench - with deck screws in wood. that's where I see 'old generation' bits get destroyed for the new generation - impact/torsion bits.

You've got to include VIM when testing Torx and Hex bit sockets.

All torx sockets are basically the same...cr-v socket with s2 steel bit. The only difference I've seen is that most are press fit in and a rarer few have through holes. So the press fits are one and done. But the through hole design you can swap out bits if they fail and keep the socket. I have Kobalt, Gearwrench, and Tekton that are all press fit. My SK set is through holed.

I am a professional auto tech with over 100k In tools. I love snap on tools but the torx bits are not worth the money. I bought a t30 from Home Depot for 3 bucks that has lasted longer than my snap on t30 and not to mention that 3 dollar husky bit has lifetime warranty. Now if the snap on bit was stronger it would be worth the money for me because I am a professional and I don’t want my tools breaking because they make me money but that’s not the case with these. I actually have a long torx but set made by ATD I paid 20 bucks for 5 years ago and haven’t broke one yet. I mainly buy Mac tools and ATD bit kits now because they are cheaper than snap on and quality is the same. When I first started professionally working on cars 17 years ago I bout 2 sets of Stanley hex bits from Walmart and a torx bit kit from harbor freight. Every time I broke a bit I replaced it with a snap on bit. I actually still have some of the bits to this day. One thing that pisses me off about snap on is paying 30 bucks for a torx bit then my tool dealer doesn’t have it in stock when it breaks so I have to wait but I can pay 3 bucks at Home Depot for a bit that’s just as strong and if it breaks I can go to Home Depot and have a bit in 20 minutes. I love my snap on stuff but they need to be realistic. They make a torx bit that is a 5 sided bit not the 6 sided that everyone has. Mainly you will see these 5 sided bits on mass air flow sensors so I ask my snap on dealer and he wanted 341 bucks for the set! I only needed 2 sizes and that would have costed me almost 60 bucks! I got an entire kit for 25 bucks from ATD. My snap on dealer seen the ATD kit I bought and laughed saying they are going to break I said well remember when you said you never sold a set before? That’s because they are used to remove small screws from mass air sensors that require no torque at all and nobody in this world can justify paying you 341 bucks for a tool they know they can pay 20 bucks for and have no issues with.

Why where the rbrt hits not included? They are basically the best in my experice

I have the Pittsburg Set & they have performed FLAWLESS on everything I've thrown at them. Even rusted to HE** seat belt bolts, upper & lower control arm bolts on a 1/2 inch IMPACT GUN ?

Did the rear hub bearings on a 94 vette with the Pitts set and used a impact air tool with no issues. Well out of the lack of room issue

You need some better screws to test these with! These all appear to be rather, ah, lacking shall we say? in strength. I find that ungraded import fasteners are typically crap. McMaster only sells Torx-Plus screws, but MSC or Zorainger should have some better quality ones..

Mac has the RBRT torx bits out

Vim has a nice set.

Only thing thats goning to be off in your testing is the fact that you have some tamper proof sockets in this line up. I have sk snap on and craftsman in all of these plus some cheapos the name brands hold up way better over all and I use them daily as a mechanic

@@transport21 mac precision torque sockets have the teeth in then as well in both impact versions and chrome versions as well, but you gotta make sure your buying the mac precision torque ones if you buy the regular mac's or expert ones you wont get the teeth. I'm still running my blue power sockets from cornwell, I've been thinking of switching to mac precision torque sockets but my blue power sockets work great and for the price difference they are hard to beat in my opinion they fit very well and I can count on one hand how many bolts I've rounded with them in the 5 years I've been using them

I was thinking of taking the winner from this and doing that vs rbrt. I'll be honest though. The company who make rbrt reached out to me earlier in the year and said they would like to send me some products for testing but would only do it if they could send out their own guy to be in the video. I told them that we don't do that and they never called me back.

That Quinn torque gauge is only about $30. A fun and useful toy. Take the cover off and you just scratch your head and wonder how it works. It's actually almost bullet proof.

Ive been thinking for quite a bit about torque Bits do you think in the near future bolt's will be useless for the car industry with most cars ,busses and probably short haulage . As materials are getting lighter carbon fiber, graphene, graphene nano tubes its just around the corner so no need for massive fixings ,so lighter the better , the tourque bolts made from magnesium/titanium alloy. What do you think Mr bear 🐻.

The Den of Tools give them to any air frames or phase shop during a special inspection. tools go through repeated abuse with impact drivers and speed handles. the tools we’ve been getting are made of steel that is too soft. we deal with a lot of stripped fasteners. i have personally twisted countless torx tips, new or old.

There is differences when youre in certain circumstances but a lot of it does have to do with the individual, their job, rust or not, the fast/slow force used by the person etc. Ive broken nearly everything , but i do like the Tekton , they have great selections

Am I wrong to say picking the best bolt hardest medal less likely to strip even if the fit Is not the best. In my experience there are better than others. You need to use soft aluminum and and mixed medals also stainless In aluminum also aluminum in a iron block. With different kinds of bolts. Using the strongest bolt will not show stripping will not show sticking or breakage. I feel like You need to use soft to show how they are going to work. Because you will never get the strongest bolt to remove. You most likely will get something locktighted in a soft metal

So this test just shows best case I dare you to lock tight an aluminum hex bolt into a iron block or use a zink the most common type of bolt thst comes with most projects. And lock tight a zink bolt into a aluminum container and see how they proform because using a softer metal will show stripping out from a tiny bit of size or rounded edges and also Mabe tumble the tools in a concrete mixer mixed with different hard objects to make time and usage ware and Tare on them. And you picked the most strongest size that fit ment looks like it is good. But When you buy the set what about the other 10 sockets? Are they the same In consistency seems like the tests are very Best case scenario. No way is this a typical life. I’m even the Chevy bleak calipers use a big star socket. But some brands are very wobbly one brand power something I had fit so snug when I turned it it cracked the socked I had one from harbor freight or husky or autozone brand strip out the bolt and one I use every time because it works perfect it’s crastman and Pitsburg work great

Why did you use such a weak bolt it didn't test their strength. I've owned Craftsman and Snap-on, the Craftsman broke almost every time I ran into a problem bolt never broke a Snap-on.

Notice to all. Menards is starting to rid themselves of Crapsman tools. Just spoke with sales person at Avon Lake Ohio store. and he told me they are just not selling. 07-30-2020.

Those were screws, not bolts. Try them on a GM truck brake caliper bolt. They won't survive.

Is there a difference? I think there’s a difference between the really, really cheap stuff and the rest. For sure there is in fit and finish, and there seems to be a difference in overall quality there as well. But I think there’s very little difference between the reasonably priced stuff and the ultra expensive stuff. And if there is some difference it gets the smaller the higher you go in price. There’s diminishing returns. I also play guitar and you notice the same thing. There’s a big difference between a $100 guitar and a $600 guitar. A little less, but still noticeable difference between a $600 guitar and $1000 guitar. But there’s very little difference between a $1000 guitar and a $3000 guitar. And even less between a $3000 guitar and a $10000 guitar. Figure most things are the same, though actual dollar amounts may vary.

All you are doing in this test is testing at which point the bolt breaks. They all broke around the same point. Not one tool failure, only bolt failure. Need stronger bolts!

Glad to see the Bear mention Capri tools. I have several of their tools and I have no complaints. The only knock I do have is they do not make their tools in the USA. Everything is made in Taiwan nothing made in China. All the tools I have seen are well design, they look good and they work and good price points. Bear this is the first comment I have made since you did that Hit piece video on the Stanley Black and Decker and their workers at the Mississippi Plant. I come to your channel for tool news and such not for you to make fun of how companies run their businesses and put the employees down with the dollar general comparisons. As for your comparison videos they suck, you just do not have the right set up you should send your stuff over to Project Farm and let Todd do the videos he has a better setup and he does not take any freebies from companies unlike you. When you take freebies and you are in the tank for Harbor Freight doe does not look good in my opinion for comparison videos. SHINE ON.

I've never said that Bauer was a professional line I have however compared Bauer to the really really cheap DeWalt stuff which in all actuality is not even as good as Ryobi and I've even proven it in multiple videos. As far as Harbor Freight I've been talkin about their stuff for 5 years and I've said plenty of negative things about their products over the years. But what's really disingenuous is to totally ignore all the negative comments and reviews I've talked about because they don't support your narrative. We have an open door policy to Tool manufacturers anybody who wants to send me something for review can send it. At the end of the day all you're really telling us is that if a company sent you some free tools you would give up your integrity in a heartbeat and that's just sad.

@@shadvan9494 They ARE a prosumer line, or at least they used to be, truly consumer lines such as B&D, Ryobi and others are either dying off or upscaling. I'm working on a video with the premise that "consumer" tools are dead and prosumer is the new baseline. But when this line launched, nearly 4 years ago, yes, Bauer fit the lower end of the prosumer mold. But let's look at your bias for a second. "HF could cancel any of those lines at any time and you would be stuck without being able to get replacement batteries." Why HF, why not say the same thing about Milwaukee or DeWALT? HF has been around over 40 years, when was the last time they just up and abandoned a power tool line? Hell, you can still buy their nicd battery packs! DeWALT, which isn't even really Dewalt, has only been around 28 years and has screwed consumers over multiple times. Hell, they just ditched their 40V line, they do that crap all the time but you give them a pass and act like HF is the one who is likely to do this? No proof, no history of doing this... nothing. The whole point of the channel is to help people find good tools, not bash every bad tool out there. I spend my time finding tools that people will like, that work and are a good value. But that said, just a week or so ago I did a review of their Bauer circ saw where I called it "adequate", oh yeah, that is shilling at its best. I've said the Herc 12V line was overpriced and people should go with Milwaukee. I consistently tell pro's that Milwaukee or Makita is their best choice. I am constantly talking up the Kobalt line for prosumers. I cover Tekton and Ingersoll Rand and have never even done a review of an icon tool. Is that the "shilling for HF" you are talking about? You keep saying I'm a shill but you never back it up. In every video, unlike a lot of other channels, I ALWAYS disclose both in the video and in the description if a tool was sent to me for free.
