Finally, two years after my mastectomy and breast cancer, I'm making an appointment to get a prosthetic. Plus, bowling in Vermont, more snow, and adventures in Doggie chicken fantasies. Check it out.

Thanks so much for your message, dana-zoe! I watched a little of your story already - wow, you just can't catch a break, can you? You've been through so much, and now breast cancer too? Keep breathing. Sometimes that's all we can do, and it is a miracle in and of itself. Your drawings are beautiful. Thanks for sharing your spirit with the world.

Thank you! Congrats on the upcoming anniversary! And don't be so hard on yourself! I felt the same way a year post-treatment. It's easy to underestimate the PTSD, to forget how hard it is to have your life interrupted by something life-and-death and then go back to "normal." It takes a while to catch up to you.

Thank you for this. Sometimes there's nothing better to hear than the acknowledgement that this sucks. Also, I really like your perspective on prosthetics vs disguise. I've been thinking about it a lot.

Aw, thanks K! There is no easy "right" choice, so whatever you choose is perfect. You will be beautiful no matter what you do. xoxo

Hi Amy, I can so relate to your ambivalence. That is the reason I am having a bilateral vs. Unilateral that is indicated on 3/25. If it makes you feel any better I am not doing reconstruction & really don't see myself wearing prostetics. The only way I would is I don't want the stares. Do what makes you feel you & the heck with the ? I understand the wanting it not to be an issue anymore or wanting to blend. Thanks for putting yourself out there for all us not as far along on the journey. Sara

just love your humor and wit! subbed and am looking forward to following your vlog. today i am looking at tatoos - i am considering having one beforehand. i have a great DSLR, and i bought a camcorder - and it turns out that the recorder on my iPhone is way better than my camcorder, which i use only sparingly. so i kinda as much free space on my iPhone as possible. glad to meet you, Amy!

I have breast hypoplasia and wore a prosthetic for years and it made me so much more comfortable in public. Whatever makes you happy and comfortable is right.

Thanks Sara I would have considered a bilateral but my surgeon was opposed, telling me that the chances of the cancer moving to the other breast are smaller than the chances of a new cancer in the other breast, in other words, not particularly high. I am glad I have my one breast, but sometimes I do think it would be simpler to have none. Good luck with your surgery. Let me know if you have any questions about it, I'll answer in a video!

I'm so proud of you Amy! I followed you since bc came along, and you grew!! I will have a double mastectomy soon (prevention), and i'm still in doubt rather or not I want reconstruction... I wouldn't mind beïng "flat", I already know that if I choose not to reconstruct, I get a big tattoo like a halter top. Xoxo Karun

I have recently had a bilateral mastectomy, I also chose to not reconstruct. You are expressing some of the same emotions that I feel. I do have the prosthetic breasts but just don't wear them unless the clothes I have on need the shape, I get very emotional when I put them on, didn't realize that any one else felt this way. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Amy I came back to this video to see if I had watched it all and noticed when you are in the tore taking your camera back the volume is perfect then right after that when you are in your home I could not hear you at all even with my volume up 100%. Some other of your video are like that too. Do you know why that is?

There's no right answer or easy decision, and it sucks that we're forced to consider these things in the first place. I would never have given an augmentation surgery 2 seconds of thought but I felt obliged to think about reconstruction even to rule it out. FWIW, I look at the prosthetic as a means not so much to "disguise" anything, but to control who gets to know this personal detail about me. I'm not against talking to anyone about BC and mastectomies, but it's my decision, not theirs.

The great thing about time is that it passes without any effort on our part. Keep breathing Geraldine! Even when it feels bad, you're definitely getting through this. Rooting for you...

Yes I did but I'm sorry I don't remember the names of them. I also used ginger syrup to help combat nausea. It works very well, instant relief if you sip a tiny bit, but can give you heartburn if you overdo it, so use sparingly.
