Beyond Breast Cancer Diary 145: Making Mistakes is Fun

What happens when your Number One Fear comes true? The surprisingly obvious answer in this episode. Plus an update on my quest to finally get a prosthetic breast. And Millie the poodle showing her crazy side. Plus hairography, my original music, and some glorious mistakes. I hope you like.

I hope you do continue to make videos! Even if they become just about your daily life or the things you enjoy, it shows us that there IS life beyond cancer and that you can endure all you have endured and come out on the other side to live a normal if not better life than before, and that gives us all hope. Plus i love to watch them, your Millie is just too cute! Maybe you could talk a bit more on how you dealt/deal with cancer emotionally, your real thoughts, holding it together for family etc?

Thanks for the feedback Laura. I will definitely talk more about dealing with the emotional stuff around cancer. I have a lot I could say about that! :)

Hi Amy wonderful video today. I love your hair either way and the song you did at the end is a hit for sure. My daughter would love it. I would like to hear you talk about the mastectomy your healing and any pain in the area since then. Also I love to see you outings with Millie and your trips to different places and your family. You just have a likeable way about you and you make interesting videos. You and hubby make a great couple and he has a great smile. Can't believe 2 yrs already!

Wow, I hear a lot of that talk too. I have neuropathy, achy joints & a lot of fatigue. I've had surgery, chemo, & radiation, but I have infusions of Herceptin until July. Long story short, the oncologist's office refuses to take any responsibility for any of my pain or help me manage it. I was stunned! They told me it could be Arthritis. I left there feeling voided. So I went to the internet and started searching for help. I found acupuncture and it is helping with the neuropathy pain.

I still have photos from pre-haircut and from haircut day if you'd like them! :) Wanted to let you know I'm still listening, if not every time then at least reasonably often. Love you!

I'm hearing a lot of " it's no big deal " - " it's part of the aging process", or even an " enough!"- and I Don't keep a cancer Diary. But I am alone and trying to resource and manage through the BC, a move that's imminent, knee surgery after this, and a Grueling ongoing Physical Therapy Regimen to help with my SCI. I was a bit taken aback by the shrug offs - but know people are where the are- so I am aware that any journal/vlog will have it's own place - so

I'd "love" to know your feelings, raw, pain etc. How the mastectomy went. And just what's your life is now in sport, and around the house, and just YOU. I admire you, and always had! *hugs* Karin

Hi Amy...its Karen again. I have another suggestion for your next video...to alert women that when they get their mamms, to ASK if there are any calcifications seen and if so, how many. My bc was only early diagnosed because the radiologist told me there were calcifications that doubled since last mamm. (they tell you not to worry, not cancer) but I showed worry and tearful concern so a biopsy was done...and yes, it was stage 0 ductal carcinoma in situ....cancer. This info may be important.

Hi Amy I hope you were not at the Boston Marathon and are home safe and sound. I know how you love marathons. So awful what has happened :(

Amy...I will continue to follow your videos on any subject. Your videos helped me get through the bc and the radiation which completed Nov. 8th. I would like you to talk about how you felt when you were getting near that time for the next mamm...were you worried...nervous? I will be having one in June and starting to feel nervous about the results on that day. Karen S.

There is a group on facebook called post breast therapy pain syndrome. Very helpful so if you are on face book this will help and give a lot of info on this pain and how to manage it. Your oncol should refer you to their pain management nurse. Mine is wonderful unless they believe pain is not cancer related but due to the surgery itself, which is most often the case. The docs don't realize that some of these women who have had cancer mastectomies are left with lifelong pain to deal with Get Well

So it is like a wild see-saw. My medical professionals/caregivers acknowledge it's reality and need to have a care- but beyond that - I was shocked to hear the casual, &/or negative reactions. Have you or anyone else experienced this?

The question I kinda doubted if ask it or not, but what the heck.....Is it possible instead of having a prosthetic breast or reconstruction to have a breast reduction to an A cup so it won't be much difference?? I don't have any adult friend who had been through cancer....well now there's you, but I know 3 kids who had cancer and 2 of them are my son's age (7-8 ) and a boy who's 6. Probably that's why I'll donate my hair to locks of love (in about 6 more month).
