It’s an absolute pipe dream, but my ultimate Bond game would be a quasi-RPG with a loose, branching mission structure based around a variety of classic Bond plots from the films and Fleming. The MI6 HQ and Bond’s Chelsea flat as a base between missions; a Bond customisable with different classic suits, tuxedos, and other outfits; upgradable gadgets and cars with driving levels; gambling and card games available at Blades (with a mission to stop Drax cheating, naturally)…perfection!

With the GBA link connected to the Gamecube version, the GBA would show you "hints" in the form of screenshots of where Bond Moments were hidden in a nearby area. That's the extent of it. I worked on EoN and the designers were adamant that we couldn't lock any gadgets or perks behind that GBA link feature. No "pay to win" allowed. Sadly, future games didn't keep that philosophy.

Wow, I actually do remember playing this game quite a bit on my Gameboy Advance on long plane trips to and from China. Also, I actually do prefer the more over the top and almost Sci-Fi Bonds for video games, simply because they add a lot of variety to the gameplay. I did enjoy Goldeneye Reloaded and Blood Stone a lot, but the problem is both games were made in the pre-Skyfall Craig era, and therefore lacked the gadgets for the driving and shooting sections which made the gameplay in the EA Bond games more fun.
@vitorafmonteiro2 жыл бұрын
I like to think if Cubby was around to defend Die Another Day and Brosnan game science fiction (DON'T YOU DARE!...) elements he would just be stuck in a loop repeating "SCIENCE FACT!..." with echo effect like Calvin's "Moonraker" video until interviewers changed the subject.

Hilarious video as always - your comedy skits are awesome! Everything or Nothing is still my all time favorite James Bond video game - But I have never had any of the handheld systems so have never played - or even seen - most of these games you are showcasing for us. But as clunky as this looks - I guess it really doesn’t seem too bad at all! But for me - the problem is that that screen still looks so small and blurry - there is no question it would most certainly give me a major headache as I played! Meanwhile, as we all wait for that highly anticipated announced next gen Bond game - I would love to see something simple like this that we could just play on our Phones. (After all - they are now much bigger than these handheld systems) I just happened to search on my IPhone and there is absolutely nothing except some terrible cheap Spy game imitations. Seems like a big waste - I bet there would be a nice audience for one. Just another example how they really are neglecting younger Bond fans!

The sad part about all this science fiction stuff is that if they wanted to put Bond into space they could have done it in a more realistic sense. The Soviet Almaz space stations were literally manned satellite reconnaissance missions and were equipped with anti-satellite cannons. The USAF had something similar planned with their cancelled Manned Orbiting Laboratory program, ironically one of the spacesuits from that program was name tagged "007".

I had this on PS2. From my memory, it was one of the best. It also had a great co-op mode that my friends and I loved to play through
@MrTBoneSF
2 жыл бұрын
Based on the server numbers, you are in very rare company playing the co-op. I'm really glad you liked it, but that PS2-only co-op mode was the reason the game missed the critical Christmas season. Marketing insisted at the last minute we add it (and only on the PS2- which made no sense because of how few people had the broadband adapter) because they said the game wouldn't be competitive with STARCRAFT GHOST- which marketing had "inside info" would ship soon. Of course, every engineer knew Starcraft Ghost was nowhere near ship (and in fact, never shipped) but marketing wouldn't hear any of it. So we had three months of extra crunch tacked onto the schedule (myself and others were working on Thanksgiving day) to add co-op. And what did marketing do when the game's sales were lower than projected (because we missed Christmas)? Blamed it on the dev team for being "late" even though we were on track to ship until they insisted during final beta we add co-op. The funny part was, literally nine months earlier we asked if maybe we should add multiplayer because Xbox Live was taking off. Marketing said "online isn't gong to be a big deal for years". To add insult to injury, the day EoN released, marketing decided to announce "Coming Soon: Goldeneye 2". Then they wondered why sales for EoN were lower than expected? EA's own marketing essentially said "Don't buy this game. The REAL Bond game you've been waiting for is coming soon". So many people did save their money- only to be waiting until Christmas for a generic shooter that had nothing to do with GoldenEye and didn't even star Bond. Yep. EA marketing sucked (it may still, I don't work there anymore).

Never even heard of this one. Somehow I think the 3D of Nightfire was much better. I just finished beating From Russia with Love (Ps2) - first time I'd ever played it. I must say I had a right laugh with all the 'Sch' sounds in the script. Connery sounds perky and perhaps a continuation of his Never Say Never character. He certainly puts a lot more effort in than most of Brosnan's games.

My Bond entertainment of choice on long car journeys back in the day was listening to the Best of Bond… James Bond album on my MP3 player (the version that ended with a rather naff cover of the Bond theme by John Arnold). I blame my repeated listening of that album on car trips for the fact that all the Bond theme lyrics are now etched into my brain - maybe if I’d kept that space free for more important information I would’ve done better in my A-Levels. But hey, if there’s ever a blindfold-karaoke night I’m set! While I never had a GBA, I did have a DS, and for whatever reason I never played the Nintendo DS Bond games. I suppose I didn’t want to waste my allowance when there were other games I wanted to play more. Maybe I might go back and check them out while we wait for Project 007.
@calvindyson

Funnily enough, I also had very little experience with Bond on the DS during that whole era. I'll get to covering them on the channel sometime but at the time I was a student and with limited funds so I'd obviously opt for the home console versions of each title and just assumed the DS versions would be somewhat watered down. Still, looking forward to testing that theory soon!

Looks like a cross between Metal Gear Solid GBC (minus all the neat Easter Eggs Kojima LOVED to throw in) and Spy-Hunter (classic Midway game). I like. I wouldn't mind finding a GBA version of this (or Nightfire tbh). Speaking of Metal Gear and Spy Hunter, ever think of looking at Bond inspired video games like you do movies? Not just those two (MGS 3: Snake Eater has the most James Bond influence). But there is also Perfect Dark (spiritual successor to Goldeneye by Rare), The Operative: No One Lives Forever, Hitman, and Splinter Cell.

Yeah, I definitely had fun revisiting it for sure!
That Cubby Broccoli clip will never stop being funny.
Great video as always, one day I would love to see what you make of the origional James bond 007 gameboy game from 1998. It is played from a top down perspective and includes alot of puzzle mechanics in its gameplay. I played it to completion when I was about 11 and I remember it being pretty frustrating in places.
Love whenever there’s a look at a Bond game that I haven’t played!
Rich guy kinda looks like agent under fire bond
Absolutely died at the backwards voice track!
22:28 I’ve never been able to discuss the trauma of having read 16 John Gardner Bond novels with anyone so thank you for making me feel less alone 💀
Never tried this, but loved the home console version. I must give this a go!
I remember this being pretty good! Very difficult though.
Those short skits here and there are just perfect!
15:40 ACTUALLY the game references 003 and has him in the game............BUT in the Cold Open for A View To A Kill, Bond is recovering a Microchip off 003's corpse. So honestly this game pretty much confirmed the 00 Theory
Great review Calvin as always can’t wait what other bond games you do next
Crouching Tiger Tanaka, Hidden Drake.
I wasn’t expecting Lady Cassandra to make an appearance, “Moisturize me!”
I always enjoy watching your videos.
Your videos are always top-notch, my friend!!!
You would love the james bond game for the original gameboy, really.
I too miss the instruction manuals of the old games! Even when I sell a game I will still often keep the manual that came with it 😂
3:55 some were even in color, it was amazing!
Great review Calvin!!!
Hehe young Calvin is back! 👍👍
Faceball 2000 on the original, black and green Game Boy had 16-player link cable multiplayer, imagine thinking that was ever gonna happen!
Hey Calvin about the GBA/Gamecube connectivity I don't know if mGBA has a mac port for you but if you're interested in showing that in a future review if you run both mGBA and Dolphin at the same time they now offer emulation on the connectivity feature of both consoles.
I remember this game actually! I think I had a lot of fun with it - also we have the same Gameboy Advance!!!!

Fun review Calvin. That M is the stuff of nightmares.
Do find it funny how 'Everything or Nothing' is a sort of sequel to 'A View To A Kill' released 19 years later given the villain is Zorin's prodigy out for revenge [Bond on Zorin 'we played bridge together, he lost!].
My first exposure to the Bond Franchise ever. Not the movie, not the novel, but this exact game! And it holds up even today 🙂 Great video, Calvin!

10:48, 10:57 - 003's final words are his lame impression of Popeye's chuckle? Not the most dignifying way to die in such a dire situation...
Having discovered your channel recently I have been very interested in some of the James Bond related posts but I also noticed you also talked about other spy franchises and was wondering why you have never talked about the brilliant 60s TV show The Avengers considering how many connections that there are between that and the James Bond films.
This is another gold dust Calvin video game review that I’ll cherish forever wow well done Calvin I did own this game I played it and completed it and I had great fun! I am still laughing about that dream sequence on the Nightfire one guard yells “somebody kill him!!!”
I always knew of the GBA version because the back of the GCN box said you could use the link cable but never looked into it What delightful harmless gba game thanks for sharing I do rather love the bits with rich party bloke and the two punch clock villains its little things like that give games charm ha ha
The character sprites from Nightfire. Make me wonder if Nightfire on the Game Boy Advance was planned to have isometric gameplay like this game instead of the first-person shooter that we got instead.
Charming fun and very comprehensive.
The game boy game 007 James Bond was a Zelda esc RPG. You have to review it, I spent so so many hours on it as a kid
I remember those instruction booklets
Hi Calvin, please do a video regarding the new premier date and you expectations :) So excited that its finally happening. we ll deserve it.

I had this on PS2. From my memory, it was one of the best. It also had a great co-op mode that my friends and I loved to play through
@MrTBoneSF

Calvin's method of toasting is pretty novel
I played all the levels back in the day
Would be nice to see a video of all the 4 players playing together how he described but I haven't found photos or videos of gamers doing that together yet...
I have not recorded this game yet in a playthrough. The main reason was because I was held back by other projects such as Papa Louie 2 melee only and The gun game 2 covert ops challenge.
What a great way to get some Bond action on the go!
@calvindyson

Please consider reviewing the Alex Rider TV series.
I don’t know why, but 1:15 gave me a decent chuckle

So what's next? From Russia With Love on the PSP or some of the DS games?
I played EON's multiplayer on the gba not officially of course but via an emulator and it was fine there were only a few game modes and you played pallet swaps of bond tho they aren't referred to as Bond they are referred to as agents each of these agents you could pick colors for each agent/player that was available there were also I think 5 or 3 maps a buddy of mine gave it a go on an emulator and it was a distracting decent fun time waster tho it does feel tacked on considering its lack of content but there you go, Calvin, a full insight of gba eon multiplayer stay classy dude
