@@jamesatkinsonja So far, the only novel I’ve read of his is ‘Zero Minus Ten’, which I enjoyed. I think Benson’s got a better grasp of Bond’s character than Gardner ever did. The opening chapter where Bond has a holiday home in Jamaica that used to belong to an English journalist (wink wink) felt a bit too on the nose, but apart from that I thought it was very good. It certainly felt like a Bond book. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of his output, as opposed to Gardner where I was more reading them out of a sense of completionist obligation. Though I did seek out his short story ‘Blast from the Past’, and yeah, I get what you mean about fan-fic. It felt like Benson was going “hey, who remembers the ending of YOLT?” more than writing an actual story.

I loved the early 2000s Pierce Brosnan style Bond games! I remember pretending that I was playing a new Bond movie. Good times (:

I'm not sure why, but that screenshot of Keiko getting fried underneath the rocket actually makes more sorry for her than the cutscene in the PS2 version does :/

I remember playing this when it was released and my 10 year old self was amazed by it being played on a GBA SP.

I love that Calvin is covering some of the more niche versions!

11:38 that text takes a quite surprising and sad scene in the PS2 game and makes it unintentionally funny!

Mate, it's such a nostalgic video for me. I remember playing Nightfire on my gameboy when I was like 8 or 10, can't cleary say. But OMG what a fun it was. I don't know why, but I found some of the levels kind of creepy, so I needed to call my friend to go through it together haha. Not only it was sometimes creepy, but damn hard to complete some of the levels, especially that eight mission where you need to find omega sector if I remember clear. Damn, I couldn't complete that level for like a month! But what a relief it was when I finally succeeded. But then after a year or two my cartridge with no reason just stopped working. Although I completed all the missions for a couple of times, I was really sad to not being to play it anymore. And then some years ago I found myself downloading PC version what reminded me of gameboy experience, but improved. Ah, good old days... I only turn my 18 like a month ago, but mate, I already miss my childhood :( Keep it up Calvin! Cheers from Ukraine💙💛

That's... do you have to point out all the flaw's in people's childhoods??

According to former Eurocom designers and very early footage of the PlayStation 2 version on IGN, the game was originally going to resemble Agent Under Fire, hence why you see the AUF version of Bond and Zoe early on along with the tweaked health barrel. They weren't able to get Pierse Brosnan involved until near the end of development. Love the use of Nightfire music Calvin.

Always makes my day seeing a new Dyson upload.

The idea of a stealth mission for this game fills one with either relief that they can relax, or dread about what might come. 😂 I'm reminded of a funny stealth mission experience in Syphon Filter. I tried for so long to sneak through a level I was told to sneak through, but it turns out you're meant to quietly gun down each guard one by one, and leave a trail of corpses from the start of the level to the end, and somehow nobody notices. xD That sprite of Alura up close is scary!

HA! Stealth levels in general are very hit and miss for me personally but with THESE controls and THESE graphics, boy... 😅😅 and yeah some of the sprites are quite terrifying. All the women in particularly seem to have Olive Oil style limbs!

Really enjoying the Bond game reviews you do from time to time.

Oh man.. I remember having to play this version when I had to sell my PS2. It was so difficult for me that I had to put on cheat codes and play that way. As much as I hated the controls I was still impressed by the audio and graphics, how the enemies have some callouts and how the music are not chiptune versions, but the actual recordings from the original game (though very low quality).

the worst part is I'm guessing it does not have the amazing Nightfire theme song (it's actually one of my favorite 007 theme songs overall)

Ahhh yes I neglected to point out in the video but you're completely right. The song doesn't feature. Which is very disappointing. Plenty of Bond theme on the menu though!

This really is like the 007 version of Doom, and yet even that is a diss against the original game.

When I found out it was a last minute replacement for Mr White-Guy HainEs [Paul Ritter-RIP] it made sense how slapdash it was.

You should consider reviewing a PS2 game called Cold Winter. It's an FPS where you play as an MI6 agent gone rogue, and it's remarkable for how interactive everything is.

Never played this version, but I think these pixelated games have so much charm. Amazing and hilarious review! 😋

Hey @Calvin Dyson I love your videos!!! this was my only exposure to nightfire until recently when i booted up an emulator and played nightfire on home consoles thank you calvin for finally putting an end to the nightmare that is Nightfire GBA Version!!! (PS. I hope you can play the Quantum of Solace PS2 Version as that is a COMPLETELY different [And better] version!!!)

Good evening, Mr Dyson. I did have 007 Nightfire on PS2 and it still works after nearly 18 years of getting it for Christmas. I wish Nightfire could be a James Bond Film, not just a James Bond Game for James Bond fans.

That’s excellent! My GameCube version still works a treat on the Nintendo Wii too. Only reason I keep my old consoles these days is so I can play the old Bond games 😅

I’ve never played Nightfire this way but I’ve played it on the console and its definitely my favourite Bond game. A few of the ways it’s written differently look interesting but I could never deal with that amount of pixels

Great Video Old Bean... Im actually working on the NEW world record Speedrun of GBA NIGHTFIRE. Glad to see you know it exists, it gets little spotlight despite it being a very playable game...and Highly enjoyable in my opinion.

You MUST cover Goldeneye for the Nintendo DS after covering EoN on the GBA! It's a damn good adaptation of the Reloaded game for the system in my opinion, and it's got cutscenes from the home consoles though altered for the DS. I will say however that Daniel Craig's face texture in the game is cursed.

For a long time, this actually was my only experience with Nightfire, we had no tv, I had only Gameboys to play games on. Don't be sorry, I now enjoy the little things more, and the ambitions.

Cant wait for a review of the PC version of Nightfire its my favorite bond game :D

My brother did have the PC version of Nightfire for the Windows XP. About all I can remember about it was that the second level was a stealth mission at an airport rather than the on rails/driving levels on the PS2. There was also a PC version of Bloodstone too!

The PC Nightfire is definitely something of a must for me. I’ve heard so much about it. I’ve got a Mac though which means accessing it is quite annoying... hope to do it someday soon though!

Heads up. Late reply incoming. I appreciate your in-depth review of this game. I've never played it myself, but it definitely looks...different from the others. Speaking of which, I don't know if you have gotten around to playing the PC variant of the game by this point, but yes: some of the layouts and weapons are heavily based on that version. The whole mid-game underwater/Rook battle sequence as well as the non-driving island level are from the PC version, as well as some of the weapons and gadgets, including the dart pen (not dart gun) used in the first Phoenix level. Just in case you were curious!

Hello Calvin, I suggest playing the 1989 Sly Spy Secret Agent game, released for arcades, this game is based on James Bond with several references!

FPS on GBA: Well Doom and Doom II had solidly received ports. Duke Nukem (another ladies man) had a solidly received ORIGINAL game. And a game based on a god awful Lucy Liu and Antonio Banderas movie has pretty solid reception too. Also, worthy of note, the GBA version is based on the PC version by Gearbox of Borderlands fame and modern Duke Nukem infamy.

I'm ma very scarred individual at the moment. I rewatched NSNA for writing the review script very recently... Going to be another two or three weeks before the review video is done but suffice it to say, the final verdict of the film won't be positive!

@@calvindyson Did you know Barbara Carrera got a golden globe nomination for her role in the film? The only other times an actor has received a golden globe nomination for a bond film was Ursula Andress for Best new star [who won] and Gerorge lazenby was nominated for Best new star too but didn't win. So believe it or not Geroge Lazenby is the only Bond to be nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance!

I had this version! Although I felt disgusted at first when playing it, I also eventually learned to love it. Impressive little game :)

Hey Calvin, not sure if you've seen this on other videos but I have an idea for a video you could do, a talk about every known 00 agent both on and off screen.

You must admit Calvin that the game has a good bunch of little details. The wolfram p2k even got the red stick that shows that the gun is loaded. That's how it is with the Walther P99 which is the inspiration of the P2K. In the movies most time the gun shouldn't even be able to fire but in this game it's incredible how detailed it is

From a technical level, this game is really quite impressive.

I never had this handheld version growing up so the only nostalgia I had was seeing Calvin with a pre covid haircut

Ok, one literally big criticism: „Is that a game in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?“ -> It would’ve been much funnier if you pulled out the complete Game Boy Advance with the Game in it, because ... come on, the bulge-joke only makes sense if there is a bulge. 😁 But that’s all. 😁 The video is great as always. Good job!

Did you consider just skipping ahead to the benson books? Zero Minus Ten and the TND novel are great I read the newest one a while back the prequel to Casino Royale called Forever and a day

Hello cavlvin Do you know who the actor is who plays smithers in Roger Moore's James bond films. It's Jeremy Bulloch who played Boba Fett from Star wars Empire strikes Back and Retun of the jedi. When you look in on Roger Moore's bond films and end credits you will see his name. I have only just seen it myself from watching the bond films Jason

Compared to Medal of Honor: Underground for the GBA this looks fantastic. But yeah, FPS games and the GBA don't mix, no matter what way you shake or stir it.

Calvin, try out Quantum of Solace for the DS. The ending is the original one from the movie,where Bond goes after Mr. White!

I remember never being able to get passed the Nightshift mission. The stealth is extremely broken. Also took me a couple of days I realised I could switch weapons.

I always wanted the console Agent Underfire and Nightfire versions on PC. That is becoming a reality with the Xemu Xbox emulator. Although, I guess you could just play the GameCube and PS2 versions instead. Ignoring emulators would be nice to have native mouse/keyboard support for them.

Was interesting that things are taken from those home console versions and from the PC version (health works like that on PC as well). Other than that, I got annoyed by the fact that should ye fail in any way, back to the start of the mission it is. And the fact that you need at least a Bronze medal to advance to the next mission. (Getting a Gold medal in some mission gets you the Golden Gun for the NEXT MISSION in place of your normal pistol, but it does the same damage if I recall, so there's that.)

I recall you said you sold your GameCube? It's a pity - the GameBoy Player add-on is a great way of recording gameplay from GBA games, especially now that there are HDMI adapters available for the GameCube. Not to mention SD memory card adapters that you cab use to load much sharper GameBoy content.

I noticed a John Gardner joke there. Are you going to be reviewing those books or did you dislike them and scrap the idea?

I predict a Goldeneye Rogue Agent DS review in the near future.

Please review the james bond 007 gameboy game. Its surprisingly good.

A very good example of a good handle game on the Game boy was Metal Gear Ghost Babel for the Gameboy Colour released in 2000 in Japan, North and Europe, it has its original story also if anyone has a copy of Metal Gear Ghost Babel all that I can say is congratulations because Metal Gear Ghost Babel is a very late Gameboy Colour game and it's very rare so I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you have a lot of money.

If only this was a mod for the 6th gen consoles that replaced all the character models in Nightfire to all the character models from Agent Under Fire. That would be interesting to say at the least. It would basically be James Bond 007 in...Agent Under Fire 2.
