@@WH250398 That explains why it was such a mess. If that's the case they should have delayed the game or cancel it.
Sheriff J.W Pepper is back! I'm more happy about that than I am about everything else in the entire video game series. This game really knew how to treat the fanbase.
I recognize the music during 11:15 ! It was made by Rom Di Prisco, who composed some songs for the early Need for Speed games made by EA. That song was cut from the PC version of Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed (or Need for Speed Porsche 2000). Nice to see it be reused in something else at least, but why of all things a Bond game? It doesn't really fit well, at all.
I'm surprised they have never tried to make a 007 fighting game since the movies are also famous for the fight scenes. I could see it something like a combo based fighting game like Killer Instinct.
5:16: Wade looks like Charles Gray, doesn't he ? It demands THE scene of Rocky Horror Picture Show. ! :D
JW Pepper and Jack Wade in one game! That’s a lot of bumbling sidekick. Also if Jack Wade is here at the same time as Koskov I wonder what Koskov’s former coworker looks like...
So.. Koskov and Jack Wade in a same game, does it mean that Jack Wade and Whitaker are twins? Or is one of the two a clone of the other one?? :D What if Koskov would run into Wade in this, would he falsely identify that man as Whitaker? :D Also, I'm loving the fact that they brought back some not so well known Bond characters like Whisper, and gave them a moment to shine! But in the end, imagine the situation where the blabbermouths Wade and Pepper would meet each other, the amount of sass in that scene would be astronomical! :P
I have literal tears at the Sheriff Pepper bits! Pure genius Calvin!

What year did this game come out? A lot of the levels and icons seem to be "inspired" by the driving sections in Die Hard Trilogy on the PS1. But, I rented this game from Blockbuster as a kid, burned it to a CD-R on my PC, then played it on the PS1 using the swap disc trick with a lump of blu-tak. :D Will you be looking into the Domark era of Bond games ever? Also the arcade game Sly Spy, which was supposed to be a 007 game, but the deal fell through at the last moment, so you have a James Bond game with James Bond villains without the James Bond license!

I'm pretty sure we can all be thankful EA no longer has their hands on the Bond license, given their practices in recent years. Oh my god okay so first of all your Sheriff Pepper edits absolutely killed me. Secondly, I'm absolutely obsessed with that Brosnan soundalike - favourite bit is that entire MI6 cut scene where it really gives his vocal cords a time to shine. "Why take the carrrrrrrrr? Iiiiiiiit's just a hunch!". This entire video has reminded me of stuff I thought I wiped from my memory. I remember not being able to get past the third level at all. Had to get the cheats so I could skip it. I don't even think I've completed the game properly come to think of it, there's a lot of levels here I have absolutely no recollection of! Awesome video man. :)
For a game called 007 Racing, there's very little ACTUAL racing in it. Never was a PS1 guy. Even by early-2000s standards, the graphics are rather balls. @@calvindyson Just a quick heads up, The World is Not Enough also got a version produced for the Gameboy Color which came out in the fall of 2001. It was a really poor game when compared to the Nintendo 64 version. Without using the included cheat passwords, it was hard game to play, especially the level set at Electra King's villa where stealth is needed. Plus it only had about eight levels or levels so it really lacked the replay value of the console versions. I honestly enjoyed the James Bond 007 game for the Gameboy and Nightfire for Gameboy Advance more than this one. As for the Nintendo 64 version of The World Is Not Enough, despite it being made by EA, it did feel like a proper Goldeneye squeal, since it was a FPS game, you had a great variety of weapons and gadgets to use and it did stick pretty close2df Plus the multiplayer was alot of fun, since their was different characters to unlock and play as along with customization options to make things different for each match up. I still fondly remember as one of the last Nintendo 64 games that I purchased before getting a Gamecube.
My nightmares are still haunted by John Cleese telling me about hard to find paint . Also as far as I can hear she's saying "launch the mortars" as in what the missiles would be fired out of . I could be wrong. I'm not a weapons expert by any means .
So, a fun game that's rough around the edges in places, it would be a good game to remake in this modern era in my opinion for that reason.
"Brosnan" sounds like Peter Serafinowicz' James Bond from his sketch show.

Driving games are my favorite genre, so that's probably why I liked the game enough to not only finish it but type up a guide :) Be glad you didn't touch the 00 Agent difficulty. It makes a lot of the missions even more difficult than before, and you have to get a 70% score instead of just 50%. I still beat it though and covered it in my walkthrough on GameFAQs. Also nice channel you have here! This is the first time I've really looked at a Bond-centric channel so this is a new experience for me. I don't really talk to other 007 fans all that much.

Wait, R says there are only seven 00 agents? That's not right. TWINE (the most recent movie released at the time) makes reference to a 009. So unless they stopped recruiting new agents after the whole Alec thing, I think that's a huge oversight. Then again, I'm nitpicking the lore in 007 Racing...

EA hired Eutechnyx to make this game, which is odd considering they already had the Need for Speed game engine available.
Can't wait for your TND review - love the film and love the game. It almost plays like an extended cut with lots of little deleted scenes like how Bond got to the arms bazaar and Wai Lin vs Chang's army.
When will we get a CSI - J.W. Pepper game?
In this game, rubbery 007 is played by the 12th Earl of Portland--that's my only fact about this game and I love it. Poshest Bond since David Niven!
Great review. Never played this, and honestly, probably never will. Really, the game 007 Racing really reminds me of would be Spy Hunter for the PS2. Similar concepts really, you drive a gadget laiden car and have to complete objectives by driving through levels set all over the world. However, Spy Hunter is really great, it's well designed, its objectives are designed so that you rarely have to stop, and unlike in this game, the car can also be driven on water too. I really recommend it, it basically is the great version of what 007 Racing seemed to be trying to accomplish. Also got to say, I was laughing very hard at the Sheriff JW Pepper gags in this, love your editing of him into Brosnan era scenes. I really look forward to your other PS1 reviews, as someone who has played all the PS2 and PS3 era games I am curious to see how they hold up, and also to see Eurocom's first go at Bond as well. I am curious, since you will be looking at both versions of The World Is Not Enough, have you ever considered looking at the PC version of Nightfire? Like TWINE, it was made by another developer, Gearbox, I believe on a different game engine too, and has many departures from the console version, like no vehicle or turret sections. It was made by Gearbox, who are in fact still going, currently working on Borderlands 3 which will be out next month.

Daniel Holmes Thanks for the tip about Spy Hunter! May well have to check it out. A game revolving around Bond cars is such a good idea and yet they completely dropped the ball on this one. You definitely don’t need to play this one, you’re missing out on nothing. And yes I think I’ll have to try to find a way to play the PC Nightfire. I own a Mac rather than a PC though so I’m guessing that makes things more difficult?
@danielholmes8976

@@calvindyson Spy Hunter is something I do recommend, although sadly the 2 sequels they made for it also on the PS2 did sadly drop the ball. In fact, I remember Spy Hunter 2 having an infuriating boss fight against a massive jumbo jet plane as it tries to take off just like in 007 Racing actually. Still, first one is great, and looking at eBay, should cost less than £5. Sadly, I'm not very tech literate. According to Wikipedia, Nightfire's PC version actually did get a Mac release 1 and a half years after the PC version, apparently ported by yet another company called Aspyr. Nightfire for all intents and purposes is basically a dead game, due to the fact that it and alot of Bond games have never been rereleased, due to the licencing issues. A couple of options you have really, either buy a mac version of eBay or some other site. (Currently, Ebay has one listing for a Mac version, at £3.49 including P&P.) Buy it and see if your Mac will run it, although I imagine the newer your Mac is, the less likely it will. The other option is to try a fan download. Again, it's not like you can buy Nightfire "legitimately" from an actual game site like Steam, so while it technically is piracy, I don't think there is anything wrong with it in this situation. However, I'm struggling to find a site that provides a Mac version to download. So it might be best just to buy the Mac version, see if you can run it or not, and if you can't, maybe try to find some advice from Google or perhaps a site for Mac users about where to go from there.
This game needs a remake. It’s crammed with iconic characters (including the almighty Sheriff JW Pepper) and would be a hell of a lot of fun if it had a Mario kart style multiplayer mode with 007 themed maps and classic Bond cars and characters duking it out.
The ps1 debuted when I was in high school so I have a soft spot for the old blocky polygons
Great review Calvin! Much respect to you for being able to get through the whole game; I recently tried it out for the first time and had to tap out on the first level.
These bits with J W Pepper got me rolling on the floor 🤣
Great review Calvin! Laughed hard at the Sheriff Pepper inclusions, although he really would not seem out out place in TWINE or DAD... Interesting game, 007 Racing, I totally did not expect a story, I thought it was more akin to the Bond vehicles in the new Forza Horizon 4! And so many Bond characters make a return, so I have to applaud the game makers for trying this hard!
The game should have been just straightforward car chases and fun missions. How hard would it have been to just do “Driver, but it’s James Bond.” Seriously
Hey Calvin. Great review, and I did actually enjoy playing a few of these levels when I was a much younger kid (round 9/10 I think). Anyway, on that River Chase level, I believe she's actually saying "launch the mortars", which is what the Moonraker guards were launching at Bond during that particular boat chase. Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to your World is Not Enough review. And if you didn't know, that's a cheat code on Bond's license plate in the front cover. I think it gives you Dalton's Aston for multiplayer.
Fun Fact: At the 2004 British Grand Prix along with a few other select dates during the "summer tour" of european races the Red Bull F1 team repainted their cars in a special james bond themed livery too help co-promote the release of Die Another Day.
Dodging forklifts? Apparently the makers of this game had Colonel Heller's (Don Stroud) impalement by forklift in License to Kill on their minds.

9:10 forklifts! haha you lost me there. You earned a like. 😁😁
Fun fact to begin with: you can shoot two missiles at the same time by holding R2. Also by holding R2, the gadgets can actually be scrolled backwards, many think it can't be done. 3:03 - You can complete it in under 2 minutes? I've done it in under a minute achieving Perfect score in the process. 9:48 - You either Machine Gun them on the back or as said, get them to hit them boxes. 11:44 - This pass percentage is 80% at 00 Agent difficulty. 13:49 - Those bulldozers can be destroyed with shooting missiles on their backs.
I owned this when i was young and still have my copy, although i only made it to about the third mission before becoming disinterested I remember when i saw it in the shop i thought oh cool a racing game with bond cars. But yeah i was pretty disappointed.

Good review and I completely agree with the story mode, BUT I do have some amazing memories with the multiplayer with this game. Me and my mate used to play it flat out and we had so much fun. Was always a mad race to get the stingers lol.
Awesome, Calvin, thank you. I've never played this one. Thanks for ensuring that I never will :-) Sherriff Pepper was hilarious but I especially loved "like a Ken doll's face pushed in by a thumb!"
I would think that it was rushed as Sony was at this point focusing on the PS2
Suprisingly enough this was a multiplayer stable for my brother and I. Our choices were limited to be fair, but I remember quite enjoying it
It’s kinda funny how fun the car sections were in Agent Under Fire, Nightfire, Everything or Nothing, and even Blood Stone despite none of them centering on car combat like this one. Granted, they probably saw what worked and didn’t work here and incorporated that in later games.
I had forgotten about this game until you showed that gameplay. I remember playing this. I could never beat that first level!
I actually think this Game Had Potential not a Bad idea focusing on the cars which offer a lot of playroom for Creative leveldesign. The first two Levels really Show that. Its also the first James Bondthing I Ever experienced, so it has a Special Place in my Heart lol
I like 007 rancing a bit i quite like the opening with the monchart and the start
Love your game reviews. Do you know when we can expect the next? Thanks!
I remember renting this once and I'm pretty sure I only ever gave it one sitting and never got past that 3rd level. I think I had already played Spy Hunter (2001) at the time and thought that an older but similar game could still be fun. I really just want to echo the couple comments I saw saying that Spy Hunter is an actually good execution of the "do missions in a spy car with weapons and gadgets" concept.
I never got past the third level in this game as a kid, but my little brother and i where playing the combat arena mode very often and had much fun as kids doing so.
This was my gateway to the 007 universe. My cousin gave me a pirated copy of this game and my brother and I spent many hours playing it 20 years ago. About 5 years later, I procured a legitimate copy for my PS2 and spent time beating the game on 00 Agent, as well as unlocking all the cheats and other unlockables. As bad as this game is, I cut it a lot of slack, as without it, I wouldn't have watched all the films, read some of the Fleming novels, or picked up the better games that were made.
I remember getting this on for Christmas one year along with the playstation. Played it the whole day long, only taking a break for dinner. So many memories but good god did it have some issues. That said, driving around in a DB5 as 10 or so year old me was the best feeling.
This is the song about 007 Saving the world inside his car THEY TRIED TO KILL HIM WITH A FORKLIFT!

That Pepper sketch was PERFECT! Hilarious!!!
I actually remember quitting this game because I couldn't complete the fork lift mission! Look forward to your The World is Not Enough psOne review, I loved that game!
20:58 "What the HEYELL is going on???" I hit the floor from laughter
Between this & Superman 64 it seems like there’s a correlation between early 2000s games with terrible controls and forklifts.
They tried to kill me with a forklift! Gotta love the box art, where the DB5’s number plate has been changed from BMT 216A (or 214A for the Brosnan Era) to L1R1ΔOX. Because PlayStation I guess, either that or Greece. Now I thought from the title this game would be the obligatory Mario Kart knockoff that it seems every film/TV IP is required to have. Which could be fun if done right. Get all the old cars and create tracks based on all the Ken Adams sets, all you have to do is replace the turtle shells with missiles, the banana peels with oil slicks and Toad with Carter from ‘Casino Royale’ - it could work, just as long as you had a competent developer.

You know Calvin, imagen if this game had a remake. The idea is sound (Though limited in some aspects) and it gave the fans the chance to play with their favorite bond cars (Up to 2000). If a remake is possible, it could include more levels with the other 12, an option to toggle between weapons (Without the annoyance of being forced to use the newly collected item), the cars from the late Brosnan to the Craig era being added as unlockables, Actual racing events for namesake (With some tracks from a few bond films) and possibly online multiplayer with other players.
