Founded in 1993, Astrup Fearnley Museet is one of Scandinavia´s most notable museums for contemporary art. The museum holds the extensive Astrup Fearnley Collection and presents changing exhibitions that both draw on the collection and new commissions by artists from all over the world.
Astrup Fearnley Museet is beautifully located by the Oslo Fjord in an iconic building designed by world-renowned Renzo Piano. The museum consists of two buildings located on each side of a canal. Inside the building facing the fjord you will find changing exhibitions presenting leading international and Norwegian contemporary artists. In the building across the canal you will find a rotating selection of works from the Astrup Fearnley Collection. The collection includes significant works by artists such as Matthew Barney, Paul Chan, Trisha Donnelly, Félix González-Torres, Rachel Harrison, Anselm Kiefer, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Glenn Ligon, Bjarne Melgaard, Julie Mehretu, and Cindy Sherman.

A disappointing lecture with a rather facile attempt to define art within the photograph or art as existing in the world separate from interpretation and cultural knowledge. The work can speak for itself, let it exist as is, don’t try and formulate a why about seeing. This type of defensive language, surrounding definitions, shadows the work itself, indeed injures it. Let the work breathe, speak for itself, don’t suffocate it with triteness about your own position or belief systems. In other words get out of the way, people will know it, let it come naturally to those who can receive it.

I do love I-Be-Area. Watching the clips helped me get through the immediate slump of post art school life. And years later I remade Pasta from I-Be-Area in the Dark Souls 3 character creator. It was like fan art.
