    Collecting or using cameras? That's the question 😂 I hold myself back from buying cameras that I won't use, but I think I have a collector's side. 😂 I currently play with a Canon EOS 500 (in some countries it had another name), a Fuji Finepix S8200, a Canon Prima Zoom and the only one that I consider to have some quality, an Olympus 35 SP. 🙃

    Sorry but this is a load of self-pitying nonsense. I joined Keble College Oxford as a Jurisprudence/Law student in 1999. I was brought up in one of the most deprived areas of the country and was a boy made good. I was a hardworking and intelligent lad who worked his arse off to get there. I agree that Oxford is an unforbidding place and that the whole environment is hard work but what the fuck did you expect when you got in?! It was never gonna be a playground and as for everyone there being posh, well fuck me, you've just got to Oxford. Of course everybody is posh. Laughable to expect otherwise! Dear me.

    This was my personal experience as a student from a different country coming to the UK. Maybe you had a different experience, which doesn’t disqualify mine. Not every country or uni is as classist… As to the question of "what did you expect?" - not sure I knew what to expect as a 17 year old 🤔 And that’s exactly why I’m sharing my experience so that others can make up their own mind hearing diverse opinions. Take care

    Oxford is highly regarded, but obviously it may not be the best academic/cultural fit for everyone. I had a similar experience. If bad experiences occur--no matter where it is, if you decide to leave, you can do it with your head held high. It's probably not worth it to study for years in a unhealthy place/atmosphere. .

After posting hundreds of videos I feel that I am only beginning to be capable of creating a good video. @@katjafeldmeier I'm trying to grow my channel, and I've done reasonably well to start. But I've got a long way to go.... My #shorts are meant as B-roll, for future videos, and also to initially learn photogrammetry. About 80% of my #shorts viewers don't speak English so I translate the video descriptions into 100 languages. But I need to focus more on narrated longer videos to develop an English-speaking audience. That will improve watch time and potential future sales for online classes. But I am considering some professional photogrammetry in the future too.

    I don't believe AI will fully replace photographers. While AI can automate certain tasks and enhance photo editing, it lacks the creativity, intuition, and human touch that photographers bring to their work.

  • @JoseGomesPhoto
    @JoseGomesPhoto2 ай бұрын

    Maybe not replace professional photographers completely, but many will abandon the profession because automation and AI are already doing it. I say that because it's easy to set up 6 or 7 cameras in specific places and remotely shoot everything. There are weddings without the physical presence of a photographer, so it's a small step towards "kinda" breaking the industry. What I'm saying is that you're thinking in AI standards of today, but the reality is that AI is moving faster that we can imagine. The only salvation is that people still desire human influence on the assignment and are willing to pay more just not to have a robot with AI doing the job, whether is photography, editing, cooking, cleaning, and so on.

    Some really good points Katja. I think newbies should be wary of shooting for agencies. For example, the real estate industry is full of major providers in Europe who use new photographers, pay them very little, and then fill up their schedule with cheap paid gigs. It makes photography a gig industry job. I'm seeing it too in commercial photography: particularly food. While these kind of jobs are ok in the beginning, you have to be careful not to get tied in by a non-competitive clause in your contract. You can't build a network of customers, shooting as a subcontractor, and then expect to keep them. These can be really a barrier to making more money although they can get you started. For me, it comes down to marketing (and networking!). Going to business brunches, network gatherings with other businesses is a good way to grow your network, cheaper than online advertising, and you get to build connections one person at a time. Good luck with the channel. I really like what you're doing.

    Such good points you are making Jon! Thank you for sharing. I totally see the gig economy point you are making. I have a friend who subcontracted to shoot weddings and was neither able to edit her own work nor to use it for her portfolio. So now, she has tons of experience as a wedding photographer but no portfolio work to back it up. And great tipp with the business networking events. I really want to ride home the point for new photographers that their #1 job will be to have a strategy for how get clients! So thank you for sharing yours.

    Another really important thing to consider in evaluating a contest: Do you retain the rights to your photos, or are you giving up control on how your photos are used with no compensation? Read the terms and conditions carefully. It's legitimate to use your images in relation to promotions for the contest. It's shady to require you to give up all rights to your photo.
