    To be able to throw Charles with this "nice" Ogoshi, Islam the little cheater grabbed the inside of Charles left hand glove and used it as leverage to get the throw. Otherwise that throw is very very hard to do if not impossible - thx to Craig Jones for pointing it out!

  • @ValerieCoton

    Lol - Islam the little cheater! From 07:50 you can see he grabs Tsarukyan's glove to have laverage for the throw. And he did that as well in the fight with Charles in the first round, when he gabbed the right hand glove to set up the ogoshi.

    All the breakdowns of this fight are saying the exact same things. They sound like broken records and really aren't bringing any meaningful insights to the conversations that people don't already know (including casuals). Everyone and their grandma knows Islam has the wrestling and grappling advantage. Yes, they're both southpaws. Etc. etc What actually needs to be envisioned here is what these guys will look like on the feet imho. I think the fight is all about who is controlling the distance best. DP is not just a southpaw but a right handed southpaw. I don't think we've seen Islam deal with a southpaw jab like Poiriers. Islam was dropped to one knee vs Ramos with a jab before, I think Poiriers best long weapon here in closed stance is the jab. Volk couldn't get his jab going at all vs Islam and that's one of his best weapons on the feet. The high kick isn't the same as well for Islam since they're closed stance. Poiriers footwork will have to be perfect. He can't just back away in straight lines but needs to pivot and keep his back away from the fence as much as possible. Going into the pocket is risky given Islam's clinching, timing and Judo abilities. DP keeping Islam busy with the jab to blind, sting and hurt him is honestly a great path to level this fight. Jabs around the eyes especially. If DP is desperate to push Islam back, he's getting taken down and reversed. Islam's timing is just too good. Imho: Jabs, low kicks, pivots, feints, traps to deter TDs are the best weapons to keep this competitive. If DP gets Islam hurt then he can stay in the pocket to kill the fight but before that - very dangerous to get into Islam's grip

    If Dustin wins I'm gonna fucking cry, dude. He deserves it. However, the way Makhachev has been evolving (outstriking Oliveira and Volk and later absolutely sniping Volk's head) already shows how many paths he has to victory. I still trust Dustin's boxing, specially against southpaws, but I think he will eventually make a mistake that will cascade into other mistakes, and that is something I do not see Makhachev doing.

    Bro,can you do some breakdown on Islam vs Poirier ? I watched your breakdown of Islam's striking before ufc 280. I think his striking has improved more now. Dustin is also a tremendous striker. Many people say his striking is even better than Volk. If you have time, happy to see you break down some of their fight footage from the recent fights and give us an idea about the directions the fight can go. I think apart from the odds,the fight will be a big fight and do good numbers. Your breakdowns are great. Keep it up.

    At 4:47 you say "beautiful retraction and coinciding step post 2". What does that mean?

  • @BrendanDormanMMA
    @BrendanDormanMMA2 ай бұрын

    Retraction is pulling a strike or motion back to yourself, so a fake could work too. Post -2 means after the R cross, and the step may have been an L step, but I’m just going off memory.

    Good work, my man! What stood out to me about Max in this fight was how better he was prepared phisicaly than when he was fighting Dustin earlier. It looked like he was way more settled and that translated perfectly to his style of fighting. He looked like he used to look in 145 just a bit bigger and not that depraved. Perfect volume of his shoots, timing even better. Honorable mention goes to every time he has held a poker face after those nasty leg kicks. Maybe his future lies in 155. I am not that optimistic about possible Topuria bout at 145. I am just not. Keep 'em comin' Brendan! Cheers!

  • @BrendanDormanMMA

    I don’t think he can withstand Islam, nor hurt him before the ground clinic begins. For non-grapplers, it’s very difficult to “just have cardio” that translates from 5 rounds striking too 5 defending grappling and striking.
