    I thought a 20+ minute preview was excessive, so this is mainly on Charles and how former scenarios may play out vs. Islam. The next part (which is almost done) will be the reverse, and a final conclusion/things to watch for etc. so please leave a comment on what you'd like me to address and I will get there. For the gamblers or Fantasy players I will do a card rundown closer to the event, and perhaps more audio than anything. Sharing is caring, much love. Cheers

    Being an avid conspiracy theorist myself (not at Alex Jones' level though 😆), I think that the youtube algorithm is rigged. brother I've gotten the nod from over 15 UFC champions, Rogan and Stylender on the podcast, mentioned during a PPV by name.......Masvidal when at his peak (I know him in life, so perhaps that's why, but ppl don't know that) said I have the best breakdowns he's ever seen, Bas Rutten, Nieky Holzken, Jeff Mayweather.... and I hate doing this name dropping but it matters. Even Conor who I've knocked publicly has liked my posts on social media. It's not as though I can't prove it. The game is rigged, I'm just trying to unrig it. Cheers

    Charles to his team when they tell him to play guard against IM: “Do the chair know we gonna look like some punk-ass b**ches out there”? 😂 jk he’s great, I just wanted to include the wire quote. Jokes aside, his guillotine is nasty and he’s got amazing transitions, I actually believe though, something you pointed out in the striking analysis 2 months ago is what will happen. I.e, how Charles got dropped by Teymur, (southpaw) Makhachev will do the same and then finish him on the ground Tibau style. Ppl are really sleeping on Makhachev’s striking, olives has 0 head movement. Great vid.

    Great content as always. Thank you. It will be interesting to see what happens if Charles takes the guillotine route and whether Islam will be able to step to the side, as you mentioned. Usually the Nurmagomedov guys expose the neck to gain position advantage into mount. But Charles is pretty quick and he seems to have a particularly nasty one. Same with Islam giving up his back sometimes on scrambles - will be fascinating to see if Charles can actually do anything with it. I still favour Islam, but Charles is really a superb martial artist. Can't wait for this fight!

    Great work as always. Following MMA as long as I have, I find myself agreeing with your breakdowns, probably, 90 % of the time. I find it hard to explain, to various amounts of people, that MMA math doesn't work as such (in a sense who fought/beet who, how many fights does one have etc). The only true value can be found in this type of a detailed study. In this particular case, I belive that Islam gets the victory. Exept for some Hail Marry type of exchange on the feet, I don't see a positive outcome for Charles in the grapling realm. I would like to add something else and that is - Shavkat Rakhmonov is the next pound for pound king and certainly a 170 lbs division champ, within a year or less. More work like this on him would be very welcome. Best regards to you ,Brendan. Keep up the good work. Your effort will pull through for sure.

I think his struggle will come with a high level wrestler but Yan likes to stand, and as long as OMalley is standing he’s in any fight. I always compare his power to Tommy Hearns in that it’s like long power, and very quick too. What a card eh? Cheers

    Hi Brendan, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the theory that this fight will be won on who can apply their game during the times of STRIKING. If Islam is able to pressure Charles with his back to the cage, then he will undoubtedly have the advantage and will have a good chance to win the fight. However, if Charles continues his all-out forward striking pressure, IMO it makes it a little more tough for Islam to execute his game. I have not seen many clips of him attempting a take-down from his backfoot, they are mostly when HE is pressuring the opponent. Thoughts?

  • @BrendanDormanMMA

    @BrendanDormanMMA

    Жыл бұрын

    I believe Charles has a better path to victory standing than grounded. The narrative seems to be (the very faulty thought, likely hopes of..) Charles being too good on the ground for Islam. That’s an absolutely uneducated opinion, w/ very little evidence of Charles having a dangerous guard, nor Islam having trouble with anyones (guard). I’m doing this on my phone so I can’t read and respond to each line, but one stand out was Islam moving backward into takedown, which is a great observation that I can perhaps add perspective to. Islam has very good footwork for a grappler, and often times he touches someone up while moving backward before clinching, where he DOES have a tremendously versatile and efficacious system of trips and Kuzushi creating off-balanced and often grounded opponents. I included the Davi Ramos (contrary to people thinking I was saying he’s COlives, I was only speaking to his grappling acumen) moving forward and Islam first landing a check hook, but turning it into a plum and wonderful knee etc. Watch Islam vs Thiago Moises or my breakdown of it, and you’ll see a tremendous corral of and pressure when arriving at the fence. Great MMA footwork mixes the linear and circular (L steps and pivots, moving lateral while maintaining safe distance) stepping, while being light and fleet, but also planting when power is supplanted (IMO). Islam has tremendous counters both striking as a means of defense, and turning grappling defense into offense (the judoka like reaps and the like). SOO….I believe you’re correct on most points I can recall, but I’d add that Islam isn’t a “shoot under the punch” double leg type. He uses more of a counter punching into clinching system, and vicariously his takedowns often end with him in very good position, while avoiding a lot of choke attempts. I think it’s far more likely than anyone is saying publicly that Islam might just dominate Charles. The wonderful, Streisand effect would be that no one on the roster even picked him to win! I think they’re all told who to pick, or my eye sees things they don’t, but counting a nearly perfect, absolutely dominant fighter out is silly, considering Charles chin is about 2 cracks away from gone. Great post, hope that helps, cheers 🍻

  • @rainerzufall4114
    @rainerzufall4114 Жыл бұрын

    This is such a hard fight to predict. I can see everything from total domination from islam to a wild crazy and short fight, where charles fineshes him somehow. The only thing I guess i predict is that if the submission-sequence starts on the feet it's charles that initiates it (Guillotine, etc.). If the it goes for the 25 min most likely Islam is going to be the winner. I dont't think that charles knocks him out in round 1 and islam is not riding him like a horse. The longer it goes the more i think the winner s gonna be islam. But besides from a scramble after a hard punch connected I can not really imagine it that islam lands in a Submission hold. btw with gamrot and tsarukyan in the background their most dangerous opponents are still out there.

Oliveira Will fcuk islam up in a clinch, aside from his ground game, the clinch is where Charles does the most damage. Also out of all 16 submissions that Charles has had only 4 of them came from his own takedown…lol meaning islam doesn’t want the fcuking smoke, his grappling and wrestling plays into Oliveira’s hands, oliveira wants you to take him down lol.

Charles pressures islam with his fast paced Muay Thai and striking-Makhachev tries to bang, gets hit more than he’s ever been hit in his entire ufc career-sensing that Charles has the upper hand in stand up, he starts going to his trump card early-the takedown. Oliveira baits him into his dominion, islam is known to expose his neck a little too much gets caught in a guillotine. Game over. That’s all she wrote. Charles submission round 1

    Are you rooting? Charles isn’t going to submit him off his back, and his guillotine failed against a blue belt Paul Felder. He has great offense but his boxing defense is horrific, sort of opposite of Islam. I’ll break down w/ some nuance in the next one. Cheers

    How come it took Islam 4 rounds to submit Thaigo Moises? How come Thiago Moises who's a nobody managed to take down Islam? Put Charles on the ground with Thaigo and the fight ends in minutes.

    I disagree. But that’s ok. We will find out soon enough. Thiago is a hell of a fighter. Charles has been dropped in his last 4 fights, islam hasn’t been hit in almost a decade. At some point, people need to listen to independent analysis rather than people on the payroll. Title fights aren’t won against wrestlers from guard.

    @@BrendanDormanMMA Who has Islam dominated and finished with ease that has had a full training camp? He had little to no offense against Drew Dober until third round. He was just holding without doing anything significant until then. Islam's resume is nothing compared to Charles. Not getting hit fighting unranked guys vs getting hit while fighting the top guys in the world while being half blind and still finishing fights. Whats more impressive? Carrying khabibs spit bucket and being khabib are two different things my friend. You guys got that confused.

    This right here is the mainstream official narrative. It's what the bookies who've made Charles a huge underdog(yet again to their demise) think. It's what the khabib fan boys think. All based on Islam fighting people on short notice or fighting nobodies. In Islam's arena of grappling he's not necessarily safe against Oliviera. Islam has nothing for Oliviera in the striking. All he does in his fights when the fight is on the feet, is cover up and back away. It's all defence. Oliviera is longer and more dynamic and dangerous in his striking. So there is an arena where Oliviera has a huge advantage, where you can argue Islam poses no threat. Drew Dober managed to get up from under Islam. And yet people think that the fight is just over if Islam gets a takedown lol. Is drew Dober an expert grappler who has the most submissions in UFC history? I look forward to coming back to this channel after the fight. And like I always say when this fight is discussed. Carrying Khabib's spit bucket and being Khabib Nurmagomedov are two different things. And the fan boys can't seem to get that.

    The issue I see though is Islam has sneaky counter punching and Charles has next to no head movement. I could see Charles getting tagged with his constant pressure and while Islam isn't his heaviest handed opponent, there are only so many clean shots a chin can take. Mix in that Islam is SP and Charles tends to get clipped a lot by them. I do agree that it's bullshit the fight is in Abu Dhabi though, should be a home game if you will for the guy who's held the belt. Also this isn't to say I think Charles is going to lose, I just think it's a particularly bad match up for him. I am rooting for Charles though simply because his fights are always bangers.

    @@dudeshamus1451 Islam has fought nowhere near the calibre of fighters Charles has. Other than against an over the hill, off the sauce Tibau, he's never shown any dangerous striking in any of his fights. I don't see Islam being able to strike with Charles and find success the way Porier and Gaethje did. And we know how it worked out for them. Charles has a huge deadly arsenal. Such clean technique and shot selection. He oulanded Porier and Gaethje. Porier had better boxing, so Charles used his knees, kicks, elbows. He put it on Gaethje, found a way around leg kicks and landed good straight punches. All the shots he ate was to the face and never exactly on the chin. Is Islam really more precise a striker than those two? Nope.
