The whole future gohan and future trunks one Mmmm timeline is kind of flawed because like wouldn’t they have immediately revived Goku with the dragon balls as soon as Goku died to the virus?
@CarthusDojo goku was not on heaven with king Kai he was at grand Kai's planet they are both completely different
Yeah I have one thing to say, plot. I'm only gonna give on example but, after cell Vegeta trained basically alone for 7 years and got ssj2, from a desire, not a need. Gohan trains for 13 for a need! And he has Bulma who could either make him an Android or do gravity training AT LEAST, and he saw how strong that made Goku after namek
Ill actually go out on a limb to defend the form and why its use in the manga is actually great. I think the actual point was because the transformation was unveiled at a point in the buu saga where Goku still wasn't the main character yet. Akira was still toying with trying to make Gohan, Goten, and Trunks work. And part of that was making Goku seem like this nebulas of a character to all of them. If you reread the early chapters of the buu saga, a lot of conversations with and about goku are people questioning his strength. Specifically Goten and Trunks wondering if this guy they've heard so many legends about is actually anything special. So now lets lay out what happens. The legendary Goku shows up for a tournament, everyone there is skeptical on how much stronger he actually is and even if he's still all that relevant. (Specifically our two secondary leads, Goten and Trunks) We first see Gohan demonstrate super Saiyan 2, blowing everyone away during the tournament. Then later Vegeta gets a glimpse to Gokus upper limits when he flashes the form against Yakkon. Goku and Vegeta then fight as equals (mostly off screen, and to everyones surprise, very quickly) We then have goku mentioning how he was doing his best against Vegeta. Now everyone there is wondering for real if they can still rely on Goku. That is until Goku decides to pull out his ace in the hole. A one shot hail mary attempt to stall for time and show everyone there that he's still him. By giving us a demonstration of pushing even further beyond the strength Gohan showed during the cell saga. A form so strong it shakes the earth and everyone everywhere can feel its insane climb. This ends up being the inspiration for goten and trunks later on as well. Now, do I like how the rest of the arc played out? Eh, not really. It no longer works as intended when Akira decided he couldn't make Gohan work as a protagonist and wanted to switch back to Goku. But I stikl think Super Saiyan 3 is a bonus rather than a setback. The intention was to show us Goku was still legendary, and based on it having one of the most iconic transformation scenes in all of anime, id say it did its job. Also, technically Goku wasn't lying. If we take everything he says about himself, then we can find the truth. Goku was stronger than Vegeta before Vegeta got the Majin power up At that point, they were then equals when going all out at Ssj2. What about ssj3? (Other than Akira not fully having it in mind yet, or maybe he did, who knows-) Well, we all saw how long it took for him to activate the form. He wasn't even sure if he would've had the energy to stay in the living world after using it. So it's likely he just didn't see it as an option to use against vegeta because that would've required him getting Vegeta to let him take the time to transform And then on top of that hope that he still has enough energy to stay in the living world to help deal with Majin Buu. It was too much of a gamble at the time. Think of the final flash and the times weve seen it used. The final flash is essentially a useless technique that forces the user to stay perfectly still and charge their chi to the fullest. They then have to goad their opponent into taking the attack head on, because otherwise it can be dodged easily by anyone on or around your level if they're ready for it. Then after, pray to god it killed them. Cause if not, you probably wont have the energy to last much longer in the fight. Essentially, Ssj3 was to Goku what the final flash was to Vegeta A hail mary that needs a lot of specific set up for it to be useful at all. So in summary. Narrative wise, the form shows as a showcase for Goku's status as a legend still being true, and a bench marker for our current protagonists to surpass. The problem is more about how the story handles the initial transformation afterwards thats the issue rather than the forms introduction itself. And he wasn't so much lying as he was just being honest. Majin Vegeta in base was likely equal to Base Goku as well. Thus their ssj and ssj2 forms would also be equals. Goku just has am extra form on top of it that he isn't even close to mastering and had no confidence in using effectively in the moment. Too risky.

It makes plenty of sense . U have to be braindead to not understand why he's not strong in the future. He never even saw the hyperbolic time chamber , never went ssj2 , never fought cell ,etc etc . If u don't understand why he's not as strong then u didn't watch the show, or have the mental capacity of a 3 yr old

I believe the tail inhibits there abilities to become more powerful that's something I believe otherwise there would have been many super saiyans

Is this not obvious? Toriyama hadn't thought of super saiyan yet, and when he did, the retroactive logic was that Goku wasn't strong enough until Namek. This shouldn't need explaining to anyone lol

My theory is he didnt really recover after fighting continuously with the androids the wear and tear of his body just made him not gain anything for every fight and training he does
