    Thank you for making this awesome video! I initially didn't like Prime 2 very much, but it really grew on me subsequent playthroughs. Now it is one of my favorites. I've really come to enjoy the increased difficulty compared to typical metroid games. My first playthrough on hard mode really kicked my butt (I'm not that good at video games), but I absolutely loved it. I initially liked Prime 3 more than Prime 2. But Prime 3 didn't hold up for me on subsequent playthroughs. I still like the game. I love the pointer control with the wii-mote. I have tried to play Hunters 3 or 4 times. I bounce so hard off the control schemes that I have never been able to finish it. Prime 1 is my overall favorite of the trilogy.

    Just wanting to chime in on Prime Hunters, I think it's fair for what it is and the singleplayer can be very atmospheric at times. But yeah, it definitely is kind of that "FPS with Metroid Elements" people were afraid Prime 1 would be. Luckily, it came out during the "Golden Age" of Metroid, so I'm very willing to overlook the sore spots and focus on the good. I'd unironically like to see a Metroid Prime Hunters 2 some day.

    Finally played this because of videos like this and all the hype. I’m not trolling, I just totally don’t get it. This game was painfully boring. The combat is really dull, Music get annoying after hearing it for hours. Also don’t get me started on the cops and doughnuts.

    They could have solved the hyper mode issue in Corruption easily by either continuously draining health rather than just costing one energy tank, or having a limited number of charges that are hard to come by, which would force the player to really consider whether to actually use it or not in a certain situation. Kind of like the BFG (at least in Doom 2016 which is the only one I've played).

    The biggest problem with the backtracking for the Gravity Suit is that first timers are very likely to go through much of the sunken frigate without getting the suit first before they realise they need to go back.

    To me the biggest problem with the artifact hunt is that you've already acquired most if not all upgrades qt that point. It would have felt more rewarding if you got some other upgrade from doing it.

    Late to the party, but if there's a major flaw with the game, it would be the control. While it is a great setup back in the day, newer 2D Metroid games have much better control setup that made Super Metroid feels bit clunky to handle in comparison. Even so, that's the most major flaw I can think of, which is pretty insignificant in grand scheme of thing that still contributes to how freaking good Super Metroid is. And yet, Super Metroid as top of its class? That's fairly debatable and though I would say that even as serious die-hard Metroid fan, I personally believe that the little indie game Hollow Knight has managed to dethrone Super Metroid as best in class due to incredible accessibility, unique art and atmosphere, Dark-Soul-like narrative and exploration, and ass-kicking combat system with loads of fun enemies and bosses and movesets. I am sure that's debate yet to be settled (if at all) goes to show how insanely good these best Metroidvania games are, especially Super Metroid.

    For Metroid Prime 3 the Hyper beam problem is huge. For starters corruption isn't actually that bad. Once you are suffering corruption you are constantly gaining health. It is when you are at full health for a length of time that kills you. The thing is that when you shoot with the Hyper Beam you are using health to shoot. So once you are getting corrupted all you have to do is manage your shots and you can stay in Hypermode until the safety system finally kicks in...[if it can force you out of Hypermode why does the safety purge take long enough that you're dead?]

    Personally, I liked Fusion more. I actually enjoyed the little dialogues. Sure, they are unskippable, but it does make things more intense, since the major plotline is about conspiracy, and you can't exactly have that without some words. And the X parasites were really freaking scary, in a good way. First of all, SA-X, and I'll leave it at that. Also, I loved how Serris was worked up to be a really badass boss, only for you to find its corpse when you get to the boss room (X parasite killed it and copied its ability). And then there's Nightmare.

    March 3rd is my birthday, I’ll never forget begging my parents for a Switch during the hype leading up to it. They surprised me and woke me up at 11pm and we went and waited in line at Best Buy for the release. I got the 4th to last Switch they had in stock. I’ll never forget getting home and booting up this masterpiece, all the lights off, TV full volume with my family watching me enjoy my new gift.

    Haha thank you for that take on Hunters. I 100% agree. Whenever I do a run of "all" Metroid games, I leave Hunters out. It's just WAY too boring and hard to control. Yes, Other M sucks, but it's at least playable somewhat.

    "The lock-on is less reliable in 2, potentially due to the crunched development" Actually, no! This is a 100% intentional thing: Many enemies (including Dark Samus in that clip) explicitly break your lock on by doing a little dash or a similar evasive move. Your lock on even does a little 'scrambled' animation for it, the GUI element fades away and spins out. It's kinda a nice touch, an enemy dodging around was a little goofy and pointless in the first game since your lock-on would hold your aim perfectly steady either way, but now you have to manually turn and reacquire your target.

    I remember being so hyped when I saw this coming out on Wii way back.. and feeling so bummed out that my family was too broke to help me get a Wii. I had a GameCube and absolutely cherished Twilight Princess. So finally getting SSHD for the Switch was like a distant dream come true. I was not disappointed. It was just such an endearing adventure. The music, visuals, swordplay. The segmented, interconnected nature of the world reminded me of Metroid (my favorite franchise) and I loved the familiarity of the world I would traverse when accessing new areas

    I think the more triumphant tone of Zero Mission stems from it being the 1st entry chronologically. It doesn't have any of the "kill or be killed" claustrophobic vibe of Metroid II, doesn't have the final Metroid's death scene of Super, doesn't have the Federation's betrayal and Samus nearly dying from Fusion. There wasn't any moral grayness to it. It was just you=hero, brain=villain, go kill. I like the path the series went down, but in order for those darker themes to really take hold and feel meaningful they need a contrast, which I think Zero Mission does very well.

    best fucking 3D zelda i ever played right here, that said i agree with the endgame issues. no, ganondorf had no business being here, sure its a fucking baller of a fight, setting is great, music is awesome and the duel is sweet but we could have done ALL of that with zant, we think we beat him only for him to not have died in that throne room and we get that instead, that could have been so much better. and the copout with zelda, da fuck? still feel even with that, that this is the best 3D zelda made...second being windwaker HD

    1:19:35 NO, fromsoft games are not "universally praised" a they are widely praised unless you are a disabled gamer then you get to the people who range from love all the way to hate like myself. im not asking they be easier, some accessability features would be nice similar to god of war 2018, but thats about it. but i will actively say, FUCK FROMSOFT! i hate their, fuck you disabled players, design and i further hate how every fucking company now feels they need to be "souls-like" and try to copy things in it only to think the meaning of "souls-like" just needs to mean painfully hard to see dodging and diffuclty that is born of that and enemies doing a lot of damage while being damage sponges

    I've been playing Zelda games since there have been Zelda games (yes, I'm old). I've only just recently picked up BotW to play. I love open world games, and I knew BotW was just such a game, but what I was NOT expecting was the abysmal weapon selection and durability, and all the other RPG elements they stuffed it with. I want to enjoy it like everyone else does, but beating goblins to death with a literal arm while having to cook myself an actual meal to heal makes it more of a violent cooking simulator than a Zelda game.

  • @Lyceaos

    gonna dissagree i HTE weapon durability and i HATE flurry rush and perrying, cause all of those go back to my complaint about the gave actively punishing us disabled players who have reaction time issues due to visual problems or due to like something wrong with our hands. look, i know this is your retrospective but thats why im putting all this here cause i had to suffer thorugh more then 3 years of endless shit and riedicule for not sucking this game's dick and worshipping it as the best zelda ever and not loving it cause of these reasons.

  • @Lyceaos
    @Lyceaos4 күн бұрын

    also in relation ot your topic on durability, that works in a game like elderscrolls wehre you can use your FISTS! it does not work in a game where you may be in a big fight with a boss, a talus, hynox or lynel where suddenly, you have NOTHING to fight with, no items near by to use and no weapons left in your inventory

  • @Lyceaos
    @Lyceaos4 күн бұрын

    ill say tis as someone who will NEVER go back and play botw, i hate it, i love its world developement, i love how pretty it looks, but i hate how every fucking boss is the same, another boring blight tanon with a different element to throw at you and different weapon but the same fucker, their music is all the same, the music for each divine beast is the same too. but fuck if it dont look pretty doing all this. honestly i could get past all my gripes, the lack of any proper dungeons or items, the lack of properly unique bosses, the near lack of memorable music, i could get past all that and accept it as it is, a zelda skin on skyrim, if it wasnt for the terribly implamented blatently ripped off and badly done, darksouls style combat. nearly everything in this fucking game is back to what skyward sword on wii was, a total fuck you, to us disabled gamers, and this from someone who has beaten nearly every zelda game except skyward sword on wiii, the two on original DS and triforce heroes cause fuck i never saw it anywhere so coldnt even try it. yes i beat zelda 1 and zelda II as a child and ill sonner play zelda II over botw cause i dont feel im being insulted and slapped around for daring to be disabled. this game's combat does that endlessly and then we have the bullshit with the murals in the champions DLC

  • @Lyceaos
    @Lyceaos4 күн бұрын

    also its story telling fucking sucks ina franchise KNOWN for its story, im not saying if you get the full story that the story itself sucks, im saying its way of telling it, how its so easy to miss parts of it and how every god damn time you go somewhere new you gotta hear the same shit as if you never went anywhere else sucks. now i get they needed to be prepared depending on where you went first, but after that they really neeed checks to alter the telling a bit accordingly, yeah thats a lot on programmers but as it was done, it becomes boring, if the 4 new champions we meet werent lovable characters it would be out right insufferable

    Hunters was fine for what it was in the time it was released. Derivative shooter? Perhaps, but how many of those did you find on the DS? With online multiplayer no less? And compared to Federation Force, it was released during a time where we were already eating good in terms of both 2D and 3D Metroid games. It really is a "you just had to have been there" sort of thing.

  • @Lyceaos

    but zelda 1 is NOT entirely free open world, theres areas you cnat get to without the raft which you need to get in a particular dungeon. and...i believe theres one or two areas you other items or you just can not access, you certainly cant go for ganon without the full triforce, theres a check gate for having it, or the old man who you need food for ine dungeon 7.

    My main problem with Corruption is a very VERY easy exploit in the game and one I rarely see talked about; it’s something I discovered myself. But when you have the corruption overload, your phazon levels rise… as phazon is directly tired to health, this meant that you would GAIN health for using Hypermode! But you can only exit Overload Hypermode by venting all phazon? WRONG! If you are in Hypermode for too long, the game automatically activates emergency mode and disengages it. So an increased duration of Hypermode for only 20 or so health… GG every enemy in the game :I As for Federation Force… ditch the stupid Chibi artstyle and give us a full on ODST style game and fans would be obsessed with it.

I have more trouble with that than boost guardian. Your nitpick about the map is why i dont go into map rooms on my playthroughs.

    When describing the sequence needed to proceed through the ice door in Phendrana after getting Spiderball, you forgot to mention "After getting off the right elevator on Overworld, turn right, NOT left, even though left lies the crashed frigate whose Ice door you can now open; you'll be able to get quite deep into it and even get an Energy tank earlier for your troubles, but climbing back up without the grav suit is a BITCH and you'll be getting that energy tank later anyways".
