Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass (Wave 1)

Ойындар

Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Or at least... new "old" tricks in this case. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been updated with DLC: the Booster Course Pass. The first wave has just come out and I want to share what I think about the added tracks. Enjoy!

Mario Kart Tour wasn't actually the first game to implement course changes on each lap: in tour, there were multiple different versions of each city track (including reverse versions), and Mario Kart 8 merges the versions together, switching every lap.

Really? That's... even cooler. Thanks for sharing that!

0:00 I mean, what did you expect? that 8 is a disguised infinity symbol. This is Mario Kart Infinity, the racing counterpart of Smash Ultimate. 1:22 Yeah, the art style's change feels weird at first but it's nothing you can't get used to. The problem is, indeed, only the grass lol. Actually, when comparing them, I kinda like more the lighting effect of the DLC tracks... dunno, they feel brighter if you get what I mean. 2:19 The music is, indeed, glorious. I don't think I've seen a single person saying at least one of the remastered tracks is bad. 2:43 HAHAHAHAHA! 3:31 Indeed, the tour tracks, now in an actual good Mario Kart game, are just freaking awesome. That idea of taking the different versions of said tracks and having you race through one of them per lap is just genius, always happy to replay them. I just wish you could find some ladybugs and black cats running around in Paris, a small detail that would have gotten a smile from a lot of people. 4:12 Yeah, pretty much my reaction too... I mean, I know the pass is more about quantity over quality... but come on! there are better simplistic options to pick from across the entire MK series! 5:45 I think the original also had one of those in 50cc... I would understand if it appeared only in 200cc since that turn is very hard but... yeah... 6:06 as somebody who never could play MK Wii in online, there is no nostalgia filter for me... and even then I can't help but say this course is just freaking awesome. But yeah, the old version has better stuff. 8:26 My only complaint here is that in the original version there were cars driving in both directions and not just the same one you're racing to, so some of the difficulty is lost. 8:47 While I love the music and I can have fun with this version just fine... the sad part is that the original GBA version was longer! and had more shorcuts! dunno why they reduced the course so much! at least it does look more like an actual sky garden and not just a road made of clouds. 9:29 Same here, I think it's the best track of the first wave. 11:18 At least this confirms what many suspected: a Rainbow Road each four cups. My guess it's that Wii's one will be the last one given that one is just legendary!

Yeah I'm a big fan of Wii's Rainbow Road, as well as Double Dash's even though I always fall off.

Agree with a lot of your thoughts here, the courses are fun to race on and any more Mario Kart content is good, but the courses are definitely a little basic visually. Coconut Mall also got downgraded a little bit, like come on why you gotta do the Miis like that. Overall it's still a great deal, but I still wish the tracks were more graphically impressive

Like I said, I'm just miffed that it's no longer consistent with the rest of the game's artstyle. Graphics aren't everything but they still matter. And poor Coconut Mall man...

Mario Kart DS is my favorite, so I was super excited to see Shroom Ridge come back as it's one of my favorites that hasn't already been added to MK8DX. I rate the "quality" of a track based on whether or not you can fall off the track and finish the race just before Lakitu picks you up. Oddly, every course in the Lucky Cat Cup passes this test, while every course in Golden Dash fails. For real though I was pleasantly surprised how much I really liked the Tour tracks!

Glad I'm not the only one who tries to fall off the track right before the finish line. When I can't, I compromise by going off road.

the leaks reveal less than half the upcoming tracks and due to the blank game origin markers anythings still up for grabs. still plenty of surprises

Very true, honestly I didn't read much past that initial article headline so that I wouldn't get completely spoiled. I just mentioned it as a dumb joke haha.

I was expecting the tracks to be lazy ports from Tour, and while they do reuse many of Tour's assets, I am happy to hear that they're good. Paris Promenade is the best one visually imo. I'm not a MarioKart guy so I won't be buying this DLC, but I'm happy that the DLC ended up living up to expectations.

Apparently Tour is hiding a Christmas themed level that sounds like it could get a very similar treatment as Ninja Hidaway :) I'm looking forward to seeing if that joins the roster of tracks

Great review! I haven't played much Mario kart 8 since like, 4 years ago when I spent a few months playing it after I got it. I was super stoked when I heard about the dlc, but surprise my Mario kart cart is nowhere to be found. Not exactly sure if I want to shell out 60 again. Idk, maybe when the whole batch of dlc is out.

I thought Ninja Hideaway was an original track since it's the only track in the dlc that doesn't have an origin tag. Made me think that they would create more original tracks to end each wave.

That would've been neat but I imagine they're saving any and all brand new tracks for Mario Kart 9 when it comes out in 3041.

I like all the tracks. Though somehow i think they butchered coconut mall. Most of the fun parts are either reduced or taken out entirely. A good chunk of the boost pads are gone and the entire track is way too narrow. Even 7 kept most of the charm but now its just dull. However the music makes up for the track itself entirely
