Hello…love how you show the process of collecting the dried buds especially. My lavender blooms are spent and just started to lightly brown on the bush. Are they still good for consumption like making lavender tea? Thanks
What a beautiful video! I love tea. Thank you for sharing the beauty and your knowledge with us.
I noticed when you use the sickle to cut lavender blooms you did not go down close to base of plant like you did when you used scissors any reason why
When you use a sickle you have a large handful and it is easier to cut if you can pull towards you. Also when we are distilling we want very little stem 🌿
You are amazing 👍💯❤️
Thank you so much 🌿
That is beautiful! I've been growing lots of rosemary and am excited to make some wreaths out of it.
Have fun!
THANK YOU for teaching us.
Oh yes .. I just plant English lavender, nice to know you can made limonade with it 👏😊
Just found this as we got roses that are actually lasting. Thank you for explaining it!!
why not use the pulp for rwse hip tea and strain before drinking
Sounds like it would be worth a try 🌿
Thank you 💜
Thank you 💜

Thankyou for being there and for your video, I have been searching around to find the use of plants to help prevent ants, mice and rats as it stated on the internet that lavender scent is not what they like, would you know anything about this and to which has the most pungent scent please also that which I could grow to cook with. I have also been told that the scent can cause some prone to fits to trigger fits. Are there any that grow better inside of containers to those that grow better outside of same, and is there any insects other than bees and wasps that are attracted to Lavender also if I were to consider to grow in containers is there better sized type to consider, please. What is the best fertilizer and soil type for lavendar and best way to take cuttings and collect and keeping od seed please, thanking you in anticipation of your kind reply. Best wishes sent for a safe and happy life, Maureen
❤nice 👌
Can I pick any rose hips from my garden roses? XO
As long as they are spray-free, they should be fine 🌿
Eq
Thank you
You are most welcome 🌿
I cant hear a word your saying!
Same
Thank you so much, it is so therapeutic to watch your calming manner of creating wonderful products. I tried pressing violets in a heavy book but I can never get the simetrical flower. The longest pettals tend to become even longer as the peduncle (bottom of the flower) moves the pettals away after it is pressed. Do you have an advice for that?
I press mine facing towards the paper. Sometimes removing the stem completely helps and then gently press downwards on the flowers. There is definitely much variation in the dried blooms 🌿
Please make more videos here? Did you change platforms?. Thank you.
Thanks for reaching out 🌿 We do have a number of DIY reels on our Instagram!
Great video! I plan to grow Levendula angustifolia this year! I'm not sure what would be it's closest example in the video! Your garden is beautiful!
We show the cultivar Lavandula angustifolia, Royal Velvet in the video 🌿

Great video ❤😊
Thank you 🌿
Victory Gardens were part of the war effort during the World Wars to help reduce pressure on food production in several countries, including here in Canada. I harvest some of the rosehips of the Wild Alberta Roses on my property. Leave some for our feathered friends.
Victory Gardens have such an interesting history 🌿
💟
Informative and well-presented. Also labor intensive, so it explains why rosehip products are not cheap(but worth it) :) I myself like rosehip jam :)
Love rosehip jam, syrup and jelly 🌸
Apologies but is it just me but this lovely lady looks like a female version of Bill Gates? 04:11 Great video I will defo try this method! I hope not to upset the creator!
Thanks for sharing this as I've just picked some nd didn't know anything about them. All the very best frm England 😊
I hope you have fun using them 🌿
I think I'm seeing these in my area and want to pick some for consumption, but I'm not 100% positive they're rosehips and worry if I might be making a grave mistake picking a toxic look alike
Maybe you can snip a branch and take it to your local garden centre for identification 🌿
@@okanaganlavenderherbfarm1994 You think they'd know? I could try. I think I'll just research this plant with quality research papers that focus on identification. I really want to try cooking with some rose hips
There are some fields with huge wild rose bushes near some walking trails that are covered with rosehips. I'm assuming any rosehips will do?
I'm always careful to only pick in areas where no spraying occurs and I only harvest a little from each bush 🌿
Heat destroys most of the Vit C.
I love lavender ❤❤
So cool! I found some wild roses on my property! Hoping they are ready to harvest. Going to finish my coffee and go look!
Have fun 🌿
I've been looking for something like this. What are the best roses to get rosehips? Preferably in a temperate or tropical area?
We use several different rosehips. I prefer the Nootka Rose for tea, they are quite tiny. That is just a personal preference though. I would ask at your local garden centre to see which is best in your growing zone 🌿
OMG girl .. For the last 2 months, I bet I've watched, and google searched a 3 million sites about this.. lol Either they don't reply back. I've got told to toss them and get new ones next year.. 😡🤬 I put way to much love into these. I cant toss. I have to at least try .. Here is my little story. In June I bought 4 - 2" Spanish Lavender seedlings . My first time with Lavender They are in small fabric bags. They grew to 10-12" healthy plants. They didn't flower. I prune them down last week. I babied them all summer 😊 Last night I got a idea. I just found your video that had my idea 😅😂 I'm form Toronto Canada. I have a Florida room attached to the side of my house. The 3 walls are all windows. It's not insulated. It will keep bad weather off them. NOW I no , Spanish Lavender will be tricky. My thought was. If I put the 4 small bags into a empty Big fabric bag. Stuff it with leaves and grass .( I do know that makes heat.) And keep it in the room. Do you think that will maybe keep them alive? You answered 1 of my questions. That was , do I fill the big bag right up over the plants with leaves? You filled the box over that plant. ✔️ I'm confused because they say they need light Q-2 .. Am I trying to keep the roots from freezing ? Or the whole plants from freezing? I know gardening is about learning and failures.. This year I learned not to get Spanish Lavender again 😂😅😂😅 Thank you for this video. Cheers
Hi! Wont it melt in the sun?
The beeswax prevents melting 🌿
Hi. Just seeing your channel. I live in Seattle. So you ship the rose hips and your products?
Hello Sandra, unfortunately we do ship to the USA, but we have many American customers who have orders shipped to them when they are visiting Canada 🌿
Could you use a masticating juicer instead of the cheese cloth 🤔... I have some hips that I'd love to try this out on. ❤
I don't know what that is, we strain through cheesecloth to remove the fine hairs of the hip.
Would those seeds grow into roses.
I have occasionally had success growing rises from seed, I always think it is a worthwhile challenge to try 🌸
Thanks so much 💗👏🏽 Great info and your syrup looks delish 🥰
I absolutely love rosehip syrup and rosehip oxymels 🌸
I found some wild rose hips that were very red, but not soft. Do they need to be soft before you use them?
To scoop out the inside hairs, we pick them when they are softening up. 🌿
What is the easiest lavender to debud? I want to use it for sachets. I really enjoyed your video. I will be looking for a good sickle to use to cut mine. Do you have a recommendation for a good sickle? Thank you
Hidcote lavender is easy to strip. Scythe Works in Victoria, BC is a great resource. Have fun 🌿
Just found your video, I have a question about the rose hips. I have the wild roses and when I went out to pick them there were lots of bright red ones but also a lot of dark dark red ones too. Are these still ok to use for something or are they to old
You want rosehips that are red and beginning to soften, not orange. You get a feel for the ones that are best as you go 🌿
May I ask how old you are? You look so young and beautiful! Youthful skin!
Can you use wild rose hips for the syrup?
Yes! I often do 🌿
I planted an edible hedge with hawthorn and Japanese wild dog roses. It's year 3. I harvested 100+ ripe hips last night. I'll make rosehip tea, rosehip syrup, and rosehip oil. I'll also eat some.
That's lovely, enjoy!
Can the wild rose hips be used for making the oil?
Yes they can ❤️
Thank you.@@okanaganlavenderherbfarm1994
I came here looking for a clever way to rid the insides of the hairs so I was excited by how easy yours came out just by squeezing the fruit. I tried it but the whole hip just mushes together in one big gooey seedy hairy mess. I believe I'm using Nootka rose hips but they do seem to be a bit more elongated than yours. Am I waiting until they are too soft? Or perhaps I'm doing something else wrong. Any advice is greatly appreciated as I adore rosehips and would love to be processing my own. Thank you!
Sometimes they release better if you let them sit on your kitchen counter overnight. They don't always cooperate, I do use a cheese knife and tiny spoon to scoop out some of them 🌸
I understand that the vitamin C is gone completely by the heat whilst scurvy is caused by the lack of vitamin C. Not quite sure how the syrup could heal scurvy though.
Thank you - a treat !
Most welcome 🌿
