    Been wondering about the 100% and dependent travel. Some sites says yes and others veteran only. Your the first to confirm, at least on video, that dependents of t&p can travel👍

    I know the feeling the Only Veterans Medical Clinic outside the US is in Manila, even if you’re 100% no medical services provided unless on FMP Foreign Medical Program which is not accepted here, by most hospitals or local physicians, they claim too long to get paid, thus we have to pay for all services surgeries etc out of pocket first then try to get reimbursed for our money back. And we have no FMP Representative here and there is 50,000 Veterans living on the many Islands in Philippines. Many letters and emails sent to Congressman, Senators, VA, and Veterans organizations who state no budget for Veterans living overseas except service connected injuries, but we cant get local facilities to accept Foreign Medical Program. Any have advice,?except leave your Philippine family and move back to US

    John, I do suspect that the increasing military cooperation between the Philippines and US governments is likely going to lead to the return of space-a flights into and out of the Philippines, but I have no idea if 100% Disabled veterans will ever be authorized foreign travel.

    Most AMC Passenger Terminals have short-term 30 free parking and most military installations have longer-term parking lots with a monthly service fee. You can find that information using their AMC Gram or by contacting Passenger Terminal staff directly.

    Upon becoming vested in the California Public Employee Retirement system, I became eligible for their retiree healthcare through my former employer the CA Senate. I am eligible for Tri-Care through my military retirement, but that is unaffordable until age 60. I will add that when I turn 60 years of age AND begin drawing Army Reserve retired pay.

    @@CliffWagner Very cool that you got all the "stars to align". Great planning. Unfortunately at my old job I was 5 months short of being eligible for the retirement health plan when they decided to sell my department to another company and buy services from them. In the USMC it’s a little different. Marine Corps E-4 is a NCO or corporal. When I was in you didn’t advance in rank as fast as in the Army. We had the Lance Corporal Underground. The ‘senior’ Lance Corporal is the most cunning of all Marines. They know every hiding place and when to relocate. If they’d put half as much effort into doing work as they do avoiding it, they may have been promoted by now… They’re getting out and everyone knows it If you demand his respect without earning it, he’ll tell you to climb up his ribbon stack and get it. He either has a job lined up or an acceptance letter to higher education. They’re immune to the threat of an NJP because you can’t stop time. Sooner or later, we all get a DD-214.

    I think you need to qualify that. Those who are 100% disabled AND retired CAN fly to foreign territories 😀

  • @CliffWagner
    @CliffWagner11 күн бұрын

    A retired service member is flying space-a based upon their eligibility as a retiree. It has nothing to do with their disability status. A veteran who is 100% P&T is flying based upon their eligibility which is established by way of their disability status. They are restricted from flying to foreign destinations, a retiree is not, but the eligibility is unrelated one to the other as they are separate categories.

    Congrats and I'm glad to hear positive things about your post-military life. You've made great points regarding the benefits of retiring. I've always said that it's hard to leave a life we've known for 20+ years. I've retired from the Air Force after 21 years, two years ago and it took a while to adjust but I'm happy where I am now. We bought a house before I retired so most of my time is learning how to build things for the house. I enjoy catching up with my kids' activities and coaching them in their respective sports. I've also taken advantage of Space-A more, now that I'm no longer limited by leave days. I live half an hour away from Travis AFB, so my wife and I frequently take weekend trips to Hawaii. I'm only 42 but my plans includes attending law school next year if I get accepted. Looking forward to your videos!

Law school sounds like a great plan and I hope that it leads to a rewarding second career for you!

    I'm trying to understand the big stink about staying at these OVER-PRICED Hotels in Hawaii?? When I was active duty in the early 90's, the rate was like $39/night at the Hale Koa Hotel. Now as a disabled vet it is $239/night? OMG! I guess I was naive and thought the whole purpose of being given these military resort style benefits were to assist veterans in saving money and allowing them the affordability to travel? I'm sorry, but $239 per night is NOT affordable travel. I can actually stay at a nice Outrigger for less than that! Am I missing something here? Since when were these "Military Hotels" expected to be run as "profit centers"? It's like any other benefit such as the BX/Px, prices are not any different most of the time than Walmart or Target, just avoiding some taxes on some things. I guess when I was young I really thought MWR type of places were going to offer extreme value and sorry, I'm just not seeing it. If someone can explain to me where my thought process is incorrect, I'm grateful to be informed. Same with gasoline on the Base. I thought the idea was there was no tax on the fuel and it would be significantly cheaper than off base. Nope, I get a better price on gas on average at Costco than at the base. So all the benefits I worked so hard to have seem to be for naught. Either we are all getting taken for complete suckers or I'm missing something here. I could be wrong, but it seems like the Government slowly stripped away any of the real value that was behind these services years ago that now are required to run at a profit, .which makes it difficult to even provide any value anymore to the Active Duty/Retired/Service Connected Disabled Veteran. Would love people's thoughts.

  • @CliffWagner
    @CliffWagner13 күн бұрын

    You are correct, the financial incentives/benefits for active military and veterans has eroded substantially in the past decade. I would attribute it to the fact that until 1980, a large majority of members of the US House and Senate were veterans and were aware of the need to provide for affordable options for our military. That is no longer the case and so the needs of veterans are becoming a lessor priority for policy makers now.

    Similarly, I joined the Army when I was 17 and currently retired. At first it was hard. Not knowing how to go about my day without any deadlines, no alarm clocks...nothing. Coming to a hard stop was definitely something that I had to ease into. Not having to work anymore does help gain more time, but I honestly don't know where the day goes. The day, the week the month, the quarter and year still goes by super fast. But I am finding out that I still stay busy with projects at home and errands for home. I honestly don't know how people find time to work when there's so much to do at home. Congrats! I have always taken an interest with garment sewing. So now, I finally can. I have a sewing room set up. I have also wanted to learn how to play the piano. So now I can. I have a baby grand at home.

    I escaped both Army active duty and a couple years Reserves with my sham shield. Was on night shift monitoring the network on my Active Duty deployment. Watched a lot of anime, ate pizza, and nobody was tracking if I did PT! Lol. Reserve deployment: ended up going with a unit from another state to Iraq, so nobody really cared what I was up to. They put me on convoy recovery for a while after giving our work repairing NVGs to the contractors, so that was just chilling in my bunk listening for if we were gonna go out. Then they took me off Recovery Team w/o telling me anything else to do, so I had a couple more weeks of chilling unsupervised before they put me on gate guard. Played the heck out of my PS2 xD

    Great job 👍. I live in Texas, a Space A desert. 2 week RT from here to Madrid in November ~500. My last trip to Germany, $125 to BWI, overnight hotel, no seats, train to Wilmington, bus to Dover. Now up to $300. Germany to Norfolk easy. Last minute flight to Texas $418. Commercial easier, cheaper, faster and an extra 15 hours of lost sleep. If a rare Fort Worth or San Antonio to EU pops up, it could be cheaper, but may require an overnight, expenses etc. The folks living near the hubs have it made. I'm retired twice, so have the airline miles, cash and flexibility to do it. BTW, my Norfolk to Austin flight via JFK had weight issues, so I volunteered for $2500 in virtual credit cards, so I made money on my beer, schnitzel, and pretzel 4 day trip. Will I try again, sure.
