This video is an overview of the various categories of military retirees and their eligibility to fly military space-a under DoDI 4515.13. There are some minor differences at least where Grey Zone Retirees are concerned as well as some tips for avoiding pitfalls for retired veterans who also happen to be 100% P&T.

Glad it was helpful! You should definitely plan a space-a trip. Also check into the website www.poppinsmoke.com - they have tons of helpful information there on space-a flights and lodging.

Thank you Cliff. This was useful information. Only one thing. My new Next Generation Uniformed Services ID Card came with 100% PERMANENT AND TOTAL splattered across immediately followed by INDEF. Could the staff possibly miss this glaring categorization through the whole process??

I am assuming you are retired military. If so, your new Next Generation Uniformed Services ID Card should state RETIRED under the Affiliation section on the front of the card. That is the only thing passenger terminal personnel will need to see. Here is a link to the Next Generation Uniformed Services ID Card overview: www.cac.mil/Next-Generation-Uniformed-Services-ID-Card/

I know a few retirees (20+ years) whose ID card says RETIRED but after receiving 100% P&T from the VA, for some reason, went back and had the RETIRED designation, switched it to 100% Permanent and Total. I don't know why but I never asked. But to counter the confusion at the passenger terminal desk when flying OCONUS Space-A, they carry a copy of their DD-214. It's not really a hassle, but it can delay the process for a few minutes.

@@CliffWagner Hi Cliff. Sorry I wasn't clear enough. As per what you said in the episode... "you can be medically retired with one year of service and you're still "retired" ...regardless (in a nutshell)." That is basically my case. Still, my Next Generation Uniformed Services ID Card (the latest one with all the new high tech inscription on it, and which I got just last month) states "100% DAV" under "Affiliation". It does not state "RETIRED". But I got the gist of it he he he. Thank you for the reply/hyperlink! On a side note, we'll just have to keep pushing for new legislation to pass including us, 100-percenters, as Space A OCONUS-worthy retirees too he he. Cheers!

I would refer you to Travis AFB Passenger Terminal AMC Gram for ground transportation options. You could also call passenger terminal staff to check if there is a specific taxi cab company with contracted access to the installation. Suisun city has a Amtrak stop. I lived there. Travis is about 10-15 minutes away. Was there today.
