This is a basic overview of the Military Space Available Travel program that is available under regulation for veterans and specified travelers. I have found that many active duty and reserve forces service members and retirees don't have much information about this important benefit. I hope that you find this informational overview useful as you explore space a travel.

It all about the 3 p's polite, patient,& persistence! Don't show attitude or anger! And you will get picked for a flight! Only bring a small ruck sack or little as possible luggage!

Best flight I got was a Sneeker flight to Hawaii hickium AFB. A 4 star AF General's jet just landed and has 1 seat available for the right passenger! I got picked for the flight, and was briefed about code and conduct oboard his Jet! At first it was just a ride to Hawaii, Once I became in tune with the company, I had a new 4 star friend!

I hope a lot more CONUS based-active duty people see this video and your bootcamp series. Outside of PCS season, I hardly see any active duty catching a hop in the pax terminal. I first flew Space-A in 2002 when I was stationed at Dover AFB, DE. I flew to Europe many times in the 5 years I was stationed there. I explained how it works to my co-workers but none of them used it. I've lost count but I've used Space-A at least twice a year during my 21-year career. I retired two years ago and use Space-A out of Travis AFB, 3 times now. It's not always perfect, and I had to flew back out of pocket a few times, but I still saved so much money. Despite being well-versed in Space-A, I actually want to thank you for suggesting poppin' smoke. It made planning so much easy. Keep up the great work!

First and foremost thank you for your service! I also appreciate the comment(s) - of course it helps the channel, but it is also good to hear perspective of folks who have actually done some of this stuff. I agree with you that I think active duty service members underutilize Space-A, I was guilty of that myself during my active duty years. But you don't know what you don't know and I'm using it up like a mad man now that I'm retired USAR. Looking forward to the time when I become eligible for foreign destinations. Till then, I'll maximize the benefit that I have. All the best!

What is your eligibility? Are you an active or retired military veteran? Are you a veteran who is 100% P&T disabled? It matters because your eligibility is determined by some of these factors.

I am guessing eligibility for this kind of travel is limited to those with military backgrounds and/or clearances?

Specified groups of military retirees, surviving spouses of veterans and a limited range of others are eligible. Thanks.

I watched the boot camp series. In july i plan on going to the Philippines, and I'm going to try space a. I'll let you know how it goes. I live in alabama, would you recommend driving to or flying to the west coast first? I havent delved into some of the flights yet but i know Jacksonville florida is 12 hour drive for me. I can take that to the west coast probably, and from there to guam. And then i plan on buying a commercial flight from there. Might be hard to plan out though. I'm 100% DV so I can only fly conus it looks like.

You are correct, you can fly CONUS, HI, AK and all US Territories including Guam. Your plan is solid as outlined. The key is getting to Travis AFB on the west coast. After that getting to HI and Guam will be easy for you. Getting from AL to the west coast is a little more challenging. You might consider a cheap commercial flight i.e. Frontier or Spirit airlines from AL to Sacramento, then Uber to Travis. That would be my recommendation.
