    Hi. As I’ve described, the recording was made with a Suhr Standard guitar (stock Suhr pickups) through a Brunetti amp head, with no additional pedals. The signal chain is as follows: Klotz cables, Radial J48 DI, RME FF800 soundcard and its internal preamps (the most neutral-sounding preamps I have). The EQ settings are based on the amp’s settings (mainly all knobs at noon except for the gain and volume). There is no post EQ and no compression on all reamped guitars. I didn’t even apply a low cut on the solo guitars in the mix. The delay was added in Cubase 12 using the stereo H delay. I used a Radial X-Amp studio reamper. The level is the same for all the reamped speakers, and I tried to set the MD441 at the same spacing and on the edge of the cone.

  • @martinaddison4880
    @martinaddison488018 күн бұрын

    when you say: "recorded" what does this mean? Yes you re-amped it, but the manner in which you initially recorded it can affect the re-amping. Just saying DI is not enough info, please describe the entire signal chain, the pickup selected, the guitar cable, the DI, the mic-pre, the EQ, the compression, DAW, etc. for capturing the original performance.

  • @remrem3000
    @remrem300017 күн бұрын

    Why should he care about describing which DAW, guitar cable or DI he used? It's plain and simply a guitar signal going through different speakers to show how these affect the sound. All the rest couldn't be of lesser importance in the context of that video haha.

  • @marinotomas
    @marinotomas18 күн бұрын

    How would you describe the difference? Seems to me that the headphones out has a little bit more bright?

  • @peterglavanov
    @peterglavanov17 күн бұрын

    The difference you’re describing likely stems from the sound characteristics of the headphone output versus the monitor output. Headphone outputs can sometimes have a brighter sound due to their design, as they often boost certain frequencies to compensate for the smaller drivers in headphones. This brightness can be perceived as a slight increase in treble. On the other hand, monitor outputs are typically designed to be more neutral, providing a flat frequency response to accurately represent the audio signal. The perceived brightness from the headphone output can indeed be adjusted using the EQ settings on your mixer, allowing you to compensate for these differences and achieve a more balanced sound. In summary, the headphone output might sound brighter compared to the monitor output due to the inherent design differences, but this can be adjusted with the mixer’s EQ settings.

    @@peterglavanov Thank you very much for such a detailed answer!. My doubt was because I am thinking of buying the Friedman IR-X for home use since I am moving to a smaller apartment. I wanted something that I can connect to my Edifier powered speakers which are general purpose (for listening to music, not studio) and have an RCA input and miniplug input as well. I understand that I can use them with the Friedman's headphone output, and not with its balanced output.

    Hi, I wonder - can you share the settings and IR choice please and gain level of the fuzz also perhaps. I'm sure it'll be self explanatory but I bought one of these earlier today and I'm hoping my fuzz pedals will like it as I have to play direct mostly. I usually use an HK Tubeman which I can basically do everything on and love as it cuts through and cleans up great but it hates fuzz and they sound awful through it. It can work but it's never like it's set with an amp. I do tweak the EQ after the speaker sim output for best results but I will run these units alongside one another and the Tubeman into the return like I would run it into an amp. Best of both worlds IMO then with some switching options so I can run one or the other and use the IR-X digital IR. Then to rebuild my pedalboard into two tiers me thinks. Great playing :0)

  • @peterglavanov
    @peterglavanov29 күн бұрын

    Hello🎸 Since I don’t remember exactly the fuzz’s settings, what I can see from the video is the gain is about 1 o’clock and the volume is at noon. Keep in mind the IR-X’s plexi channel also adds a bit of gain. Most importantly, since the fuzzes add too much bass frequencies, I use the humbucker bridge split to single coil and roll off the guitar volume knob to about 50%. For the IRs, I use the Ownhammer EV12L 57 121, which is a combination of a Shure SM57 and a Royer R121 mic’d on an Electro-Voice 12L speaker. Thank you for subscribing if you have already done so.

    Are those clean sounds direct out of the amp? They sound great. Also maybe you know, how do you use reverb and delay with some of these amps that don't have an effects loop like the Friedman Vintage Plexi? I've got an amp now that has an effects loop but when i've tried to use reverb and delay in front of the amp they don't sound right. Was wondering because im interested in a Friedman Vintage Plex and it doesn't have an effects loop.

  • @peterglavanov
    @peterglavanovАй бұрын

    More volume and less gain, along with dynamics in your right hand, will create a clean tone. The reverb I use is added post-recording in the DAW. Another way to add amp reverb-delay without an effects loop is to use a Fryette Power Station, which is a great device for playing at home, in the studio, or on stage, but it is not cheap. Alternatively, you can have the sound engineer add reverb directly from the mixing console. Thanks for subscribing if you’ve already done so.

    Have any of you tried the IRX I or IRD preamps with the Friedman reference ASC 10 or 12 inch reference cab thanks G power section in this reference/FRFR cab Friedman does not call it an FRFR but I can’t tell the difference when I look at the specs except for it looks very real thanks 0:48

  • @adamswanson8216

    Hi, I’ve been using the IRX and the IRD pedals. Both are both preamps. I should say most recently but with a combo and extension cab sort of adding them into my pedal board however I have come to enjoy both of them a great deal and wondered I am visually impaired, so there are a lot of things that I may not be able to do but I’ve been teaching guitar for 40 years and I can definitely play and I have been a vamp guy my whole life so I’m sure I sound stupid and asking this I know that Friedman refers to the ASC 10 as a reference cabinet as well as the ASMRASC 12 as a reference cabinet and not a FR speaker as I think the Fryatt power station is a good solution I also wonder why would this direct solution not also work as it appears at 59 pounds the speaker looks more like a traditional one by 10 or One by 12 depending on which one you choose obviously and they have a power section. I’m just wondering what is it that would stop you from plugging directly into that high end Friedman or even another FRFR type speaker instead of using the fry at power station as I also have synergy send to preamp myself and would like to use both with just a speaker and was curious as to why you chose the power station instead thanks this is a dumb question. I apologize but I do appreciate your help. Just remember being visually impaired. I can’t see your set up either and certainly can’t touch it through the screen lol so I am just trying to get an understanding and make the best choice. It just seemed like going from preamp directly into the Friedman, ASC 10 you can operate those at bedroom all the way to stage volume with no troubles. I’m just wondering why people Don’t choose that option why I don’t see it on KZread anywhere as an example and why Friedman themselves don’t push it that way either. Just curious I know they’re not suggesting it’s a total solution, but with a Reverb delay and a little fuzz, I can surely make it a total solution. I have it right here in my house and have done so thank you. Just not with the Friedman, powered speaker or reference cabinet as they call it again thanks 1:45 1:45

  • @peterglavanov
    @peterglavanovАй бұрын

    Hello and thank you for the question. I generally use the Fryette PS2 primarily as a power attenuator, which works for all my amps through a cabinet amp switcher. This way, I can adjust the volume as I want without disturbing the neighbors (I live in an apartment). In this video, I decided to try how they sound together with the IR-X, but generally, I use the IR-X directly to FOH. The idea is not to carry heavy cabinets and amps when I play live, which has been my livelihood for over 30 years. I haven't tried the Friedman ASC10, but it will probably sound good. I have tried another FRFR from Laney, through which the IR-X sounds great. Here is a link to listen if you're interested: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o3x2lcGmn73al6g.htmlsi=ke45Uo3g4HIUCH0T

    @@peterglavanov I actually saw the video of you using the Laney. I believe it was a 2 x 12 FRF our speaker I just thought because of the way that Friedman described the speaker they sort of walk away from the FRFR term and also they focus in on the fact that it is a Celestion speaker and since Friedman is the merchandise I’m using I kind of thought that would be the case too I just felt like using the ASC 10 would be a great option at least for the rehearsal warehouse anyway Man truly it can’t sound that bad lol because the video you did sounds great so if anything positive I just wanted to know how much I enjoyed the demo have always used a rock crusher when I needed an attenuator. I’ve had one for years, but maybe it is worth trying this. Thank you very much and I will certainly keep it under consideration, but I think you gave me my answer.

That clean channel sounds so thin and mid focused, the best i can do is to use my strymon deco to get some harmonics out of it at usable volume (thats another thing, the low headroom), but then i can't really make a clean stright funky guitar rythm... I would be extremely happy with a mix of the twin sister + the od channel of this amp.

  • @peterglavanov

    Hi! If you’re looking to connect IRX to your amp, the best approach is to use a standard TS (instrument cable). Connect IRX SEND to your amp’s RETURN. Place all your pedals, except delay and reverb, before IRX. Delay and reverb should be positioned between IRX SEND and your amp’s RETURN. Then, use a normal TS cable to connect your AMP SEND to IRX RETURN, completing the circuit. With this setup, you’ll utilize only the power amp of your amp, while IRX replaces your amp’s preamp. One more thing-you can simultaneously with the way I explained above run to the mixing console or your DAW, a balanced TRS to XLR cable from the balanced output of the IRX as this will give you an additional sound where you will use the IRX's impulse responses FOH

    Thank you for tuning in and for your question. Generally, it’s not necessary, but it depends on the quality of the PA system you’re using. Previously, I played live by connecting IR-X’s balanced out directly through a DI box. However, if the mixer lacks good preamps to amplify the sound properly, you might experience unwanted noise when the sound engineer tries to increase your volume, compromising your sound quality. With the Walrus Canvas, I use it as a line isolator to maintain consistent sound levels. Additionally, I utilize it in stereo mode.
