😲 I am so confused 😲 I'm a redhead but I know exactly what you're talking about... I am one of the rare redheads that will tan, and if I'm careful I can do so without burning. and I get more red when I tan...naturally. ofc I have always assumed that was because I was a redhead...with red-pink pigmentation. (I'm learning lots today)

?huh 5:43... so when you're a redhead... when we have primarily red melatonin in our skin, how does blue, yellow, and white figure then?...wow. I have a clear pearlized gray lavender pink peachy overall tone... it's never clearly pink nor clearly peach. a lot of time it looks milky white... I avoid overtly warm colors and overtly cool colors... and my range seems to be mid-level with a tangible softness 🤔 🧠💨 🤔

I have been particularly interested in the effect of colours lately. By the way Jen, I love your white shirt. Is it Power of my People by any chance?

What about olive skin tone?
@Sophie-bi6xd2 күн бұрын
@Jenn. You make a very interesting point saying olives can never be extremely cool or warm for we have both yellow and green. Does this mean that we can only fall in the color seasons closer to neutral like autumn and summer. Because if you mark the 4 color seasons on a spectrum winter and spring are at the far ends.
@stylemejennКүн бұрын
Winter and Spring are on the opposite ends of CLARITY from Autumn and Summer, not temperature. While I agree that clarity can have some influence on temperature (since as colors become softer they naturally become less temperature-sensitive), I wouldn't generalize that Winter and Spring are extremely warm/cool seasons and Autumn & Summer are more neutral seasons in terms of temperature.

I struggle with my season. I've been told that I'm a winter, but bright colors are too much for me. I checked summer, but summer is too muted for me. Knowing that Dark Winter is a bit muted I tried this season, and some colors felt great, but some others were too dark. Maybe I'm deep but not dark.

Great point about jewelry size/character that I think is a unique insight. I'm medium contrast and my jewelry needs to be medium, I've noticed. Too dainty just looks lost or fussy on me- too large looks unnatural and overwhelming. I thought it was because I was a "Natural" Kibbe type and needed more fluidity but it makes sense to think of it in terms of my contrast too. This is a very practical tip- honestly the money we'd save if we knew this up front!

When I started looking at lip stick colors in Thailand, I noticed that practically all of them were some kind of shade of red. Very different lineup to back home in Scandinavia. So I think the marketing people at Boots (where I checked first) had determined those colors would sell the best.

Because I have a very pale and ruddy skin tone, I'm just recently noticing that I actually have olive undertones and red overtones that hid the olive. I'm clearly cool leaning with my medium ash brown hair and green with a bit of grey eyes and red overtone on my skin. It's actually so hard to wear full coverage makeup though, because things that match my neutral undertone cover the red overtone and things that are cool look pink as fuck on me because my undertone is olive, so I'm like a creamy off white under the freckles and "tan". (My tan is just red. I look permanently sunburned if I get sun, so I avoid it.) The combination of tones in my skin make me look a little peach or grey circumstantially, which made it confusing for me to figure out that I'm cool toned because it initially seemed like maybe cool tones wash me out. Also, I've realized that I'm fairly certain I'm a cool summer out of all the seasonal palettes, so it seems like I should be very cool if that defines my best palette, but actually I just seem like someone who needs very medium everything and I lean more cool than warm. Like, I look bad in many pastels AND overly dark colors. I look good in pure grey that's more medium in value, like Rihanna's fur in the video where she's compared to Eva Mendes, but bad in a lot of soft colors. I'm bright for a summer, but not bright or deep enough to really be a winter. I can find colors to borrow outside of my season more easily than from other palettes in my season. The soft and light spring palettes lack the clarity and depth I need with my medium hair and eyes contrasting so much with my pale skin. The colors I wear just need to be more neutral rather than overly warm, medium depth, and medium clarity.

Comfortable- I always move towards textiles that feel soft on my skin, are good quality basics and move well. Classic- I love a blazer, can't go past a navy and white stripe, ballet flats. Fun- I have a collection of crazy-person pieces that I really need to make work...ballet flats that look like pencils, blue glitter converse, a pineapple-shaped handbag. It's like french chic meets kindergartener, this'll be fun!

Another tip I have is to have a few muted/brownish and/or mauvey lipliners at hand. I have a few lipsticks that on their own are too bright or light and it really makes a difference to create contrast between the outer parts of your lips vs skin. I would still never wear those lighter nudes but you can manipulate the appearance or a color well so you get more use out of your lipsticks that seem to look on top of your lips.
