Defpom's Electronics Repair

Defpom's Electronics Repair

I do electronics repair, fix test equipment from Fluke, HP, Agilent, Keysight, Boonton, Rohde & Schwarz, Racal-Dana, Philips, Marconi, and many more, as well as doing other general electronics repairs on whatever I get on my bench.
I am keen to work with brands to review products, so get in touch (I will only reply to brand owned email addresses, no gmail etc. there are too many scammers out there)
I do reviews, mailbag, projects, Arduino, CB radio, and fix electronics, or show anything that I happen to be fiddling with.
I believe repairing items and not contributing to a wasteful throw away society is essential, I want to work with companies that support repair, such as Keysight, Fluke, or any other manufacturer that publishes service manuals and diagrams, or that provide repair parts (so no, not you Apple) !
I upload new videos every week, so SUBSCRIBE and click the BELL !
Anyone into radio will probably know my website: www.radiomods.co.nz
Thanks for watching!
Scott.

the 681 or 683 is much better display wise. The only bad thing about this meter is that its hard to measure voltages below 0.8v. I think its because of the auto detect feature. I have the 681 version and also a Fluke 179 and tbh unless you're not specially dealing with below 0.8v then you wont notice the difference

i find that using extender boards put a lot of excess stress on the contacts, so the spring action get buggered and contact errors start to appear. i would not plug the zapper in to my phone, as to get a shock some current must flow, to flow there must be a return connection back to the phone. which i expect will be a capacitive connection via some part of the phone case. so you will be in affect spiking your own phone in random places as the current tries to return to the source.

The wee rubbers for the sealant nozzles aren't a game changer. I found you have to make sure you pull it down tight and evacuate as much air as possible and even then over time there's still an issue. Hmmm, a rubber band around them might help.

I posted the teardown of the 11710A on EEV Blog that you mentioned. Looks like we bought units off Trade Me at the same time, from the same original owner. I wonder if there are at least another 5 floating around somewhere from that same range.

If you find a schematic or service manual for that radio, you are magical. I tried to get the service manual for a Road King which is a rebranded Uniden radio. I filed a FOIA (Freedom Of Information Act) request with the FCC since the radio was FCC type approved. Eventually, after Uniden requested that my request be denied, I replied with my rebuttal, but the FCC sided with Uniden. Uniden hid behind trade secrets laws so they did not have to release the service manual. 😮 When asked what manufacturers I now recommend, I recommend the ones who work with independent services shops. 😊

i remember the challenge ( high school electronics shop ) of designing and etching my OWN boards. long before it was ever thought of our project was to design and OP-AMP which of course is what ppl call a taser. it could kill someone ( if it was the right person of course with health complications present ) with a 9v battery. IF they hadnt locked the teacher in the tool crib for a whole lunch period i might have excelled in electronics. of course they needed a scapegoat to blame it all on so it came down to the grades ppl had in theory class. so they wanted to make me switch to another shop and instead i left the school and never graduated past 10th grade. it wasnt all due to that but troubles in the home life which was nothing but living with 3 alcoholics i had to fend of from trying to kill myself since i was 2 years old. ( my mother, sister, ( whom is still trying to complete the job 40 yrs later ) and step father ) we were all robbed... thanks for the video even this late on in life its inspirational ! even without radio (s)hack :)

what does the NZ radio authority say about the use of modified CB radio's, which is illegal in the UK. I did find something about the "RCM mark or R-NZ label" but not much else in the 5mins I spent on the search. seems strange you went for what would seem to be a unique band plan for you CB's. was this to try and create a home based industry to met the demand? Not used a CB since they made it legal in the UK, that took all the fun away. 🙂

  • @IanScottJohnston
    @IanScottJohnston6 күн бұрын

Ahhh, the pre '81 AM days here in the UK. A family member 'allegedly' imported AM radios back then and sold them. Then in '81 went legit when FM was legalized with a nice wee trade business supplying Scottish shops, petrol stations etc with CB gear. I was the teenage tech guy helping out doing mods and repairs.......never for one minute thinking it was a tad illegal of course!

@@IanScottJohnston Making aerials for the car that did not look like CB one's was fun. the closest commercial one was called a DV27 if i remember correctly. Surely that would get hot if you closed the lid I have a couple of Talentcell UPS modules for my cctv, 7 bullet cameras and dvr, both modules charged from one charger, charges at 1.5 amps during the day, rising to about 2A overnight when the IR turns on.
