Guys, I'm from the IO Ninja team; feel free to ask me anything. First of all, I wanted to address the topic of the Ethernet Tap design choice raised in one of the comments. The { Ethernet switch + USB-to-Ethernet adapter } approach is a viable choice; there are products like that, and we also considered this approach initially. However, the FPGA approach offers a MUCH higher level of control -- with the associated set of perks. For example, the latency is lower than that of a switch. We identify the direction of each frame (which port a frame came from). It's possible to add precise hardware timestamps to each frame. Or capture non-standard frames (e.g., invalid frames with broken Ethernet checksums, EtherCAT frames, etc). Also, the Ethernet Tap shares FPGA and many other design elements with the I2C/SPI Tap and some other Tibbo products, thus helping us to cut the production cost. Of course, the Gigabit Ethernet support is something to be added in new revisions (now, Ethernet Tap will still work, but at the reduced speed of 100Mbps). As well as an enclosure :)

Two more comments regarding the video. The Regex Markup feature briefly mentioned in the video is not for search per se but to highlight log data and make it easier to comprehend complex data streams. The most straightforward way is to colorize matches with different colors, but you also can insert delimiters before or after specific byte sequences, thus "splitting" the stream into logical packets. Matches can be scattered across multiple packets, and it will still work. Pretty cool, huh? :) Re Sessions vs Layers. A layer is a plugin that can be attached to a session to modify its behavior. For example, take the raw data generated by the session and decode it according to some protocol (i.e., a protocol analyzer layer). Or filter data streams. Or modify the outgoing packets -- you've got the idea. This provides a great level of flexibility and code reuse (e.g., the same Modbus Analyzer plugin can be used with Serial Tap, Serial terminal, software Serial sniffer, TCP client/server, TCP flow monitor, etc).

Scott, can't you dual boot your MAC, maybe using Open Boot Camp Assistant. Press Option (or Alt) ⌥ during startup to switch between macOS and Windows. Apparently Boot Camp assistant is compatible with MacBook (all models), MacBook Air introduced in 2017 or later, MacBook Pro introduced in 2015 or later, iMac introduced in 2015 or later, iMac Pro (all models), Mac Pro introduced in late 2013 or later.

Especially with the price of logic analysers. Perhaps the ethernet one has a reason to exist, but 10/100 in 2024*.... yeah. Edit: 2014 is a long time ago.

@@charlesdorval394Kind of a design fail, they should have just put in a managed switch chip configured to work as a sniffer, along with a USB to Ethernet chip. And finally, put it in a nice case for IT field use.
