    46:12 I have so much love for ‘Mazing Man. Sad that there was never a graphic novel or even a black and white essentials collection…

    The first appearance of Cassie and Vlad is in "Hack/Slash" #1 from April of 2004. It's a $50-100 raw book these days.

    I agree with you on the giant size X-men #1 9.9, I would grade it a 9.6. It just has a few flaws to many to even be a 9.8, I looked at the back side as well with color rub as well that with the small flaws on the front cover is what give it a 9.6.

    Hard to watch?? You guys are nuts! TZ is widely accepted as the best TV show EVER! The one you guys are talking about is the classic Roddy McDowall episode where he ends up on Mars as a zoo exhibit. A great episode but not even in the top 20 episodes since there are so many great ones. Have probably seen this one about ten times.

    "Optioned" is shorthand for "99.9% will never progress to anything beyond the concept stage". My view: the CGC GS X-Men #1 graded 9.9 is auctioned and bought by an individual who is actually a CGC employee - CGC claims the $170,000 as a tax write-off and gets a lot of notice, there being no such thing as bad publicity. That's a Steve Fastner/Rich Larson painted cover on Barbi Twins Adventures, the other cover is by the great Matt Haley who also did some lovely work on Dark Horse's "Ghost". And the first computer-generated graphic novel was Iron Man: Crash by Mike Saenz, 1988.

    Love the channel guys!! With so much comic content out there, your channel is something special. Two friends with excellent chemistry and taste going over books. As I’ve gotten older I find Twilight Zone more of an actor showcase. You’re not watching an episode to see how Mr. Beemus survives a nuclear war, you’re watching to see incredible character actor Burgess Meredith blow out the screen with talent. Redford, Carney,Klugman etc etc. Sooo many incredible actors. I watched Edge of Night as a kid with my Mom as well. I remember a very comic booky arc involving a mind control room (with the room looking like something out of Videodrome) , and 2 men dueling with fencing blades in an office building. Great show!

    Just saw the Mazing Man. Remember buying it off the stands and being blown away that Miller did the cover. Loved the Fred Hembeck back up stories. One made me actually LOL

    hey! I want to go off tangent to discuss an important topic. When I obtained my computer degree I grabbed a bunch of certifications to become a "valuable job candidate". it worked as my new job paid over 150K. I then loaded up on credit cards and settled into the good life..which included the lifelong dream of gathering that premiere comic book collection to adorn my man cave. ..ah, but MR. FATE is a bitch. Years later my cushy job disintegrated and I discovered many people now had degrees and certifications. My next job paid less than half the former and my comic-filled credit cards now demanded almost half my paycheck. I had ignored two major tenants of comic collecting: letting the hobby pay for itself and not using credit to buy books. I'm not worried about the cc bills. selling the collection will cover them, but I wanted to pass down my collection, not simply "rent" it. oh well... Hey, as you flash and talk up the comic gems how about a few words of caution and/or wisdom to the weak few like myself about wise spending and overreaching? yeah, I know you aren't responsible but .....ain't we family?

    Hi guys, as always it’s a great watch. You asked why people don’t sign up for your paid for membership? The answer is simple, there are so many places out there looking for our money and while it seems like a little every penny as up. It’s not that people like myself. Don’t want to support you, it’s just that raising a family and putting food on the table cost money even $1.99 or 299. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to see your show every Monday and would love to have access to the paid for content. I just have to choose where I put my pennies. Thank you for all you do for greater comic book community.

    i started with TMNT #2. Still have them all. Just got the mag sized ones back from CGC. Sadly i never did get a #1 first print. Also got all the knock offs. Hamsters, Gnatrat the dark knat returns, but of course “Could Blooded Chameleon Commandos” for life. lol. And of course i have a full run of Valiant, Defiant, and Broadway . Hats off to my favorite KZread channel bringing up great memories of books i have not thought of in forever. Gonna head down to the vault and pull them out.

    Just to run with Richard's analogy (in relation to CGC) about it being 98 degrees outside... what if it went up to 99 degrees? Would it feel noticeably different?

    "I think they option it just to get additional buzz and move other, later issues in the series." -- what? What does that even mean? Do you not know what an option is? What am I missing? Are you saying a collector with cases of Proof optioned it to sell their stock? I'm not getting it.

    Perry Mason.. Check out the new HBO series.. noir young Perry.. very excellent .. no filler. Twilight Zone.. I’ve been reading a lot of DC House of Mystery.. the quick short vignette stories are reminiscent of twilight zone stories but short and sweet.. set up, twist, end, all in like 3-5 pages.

    Totally agree with you guys that Giant-Size X-Men does not look 9.9. Nice book though! This is the last book of the original X-Men that I need to finish my collection from X-men # 94 thru # 250! I bought the facsimile of GSX # 1 and that's going to be a stand in to my collection as GSX # 1 will probably keep going up in value thanks to the new animated cartoon and MCU movie coming soon. Unless Marvel totally botches the X-Men movie which I can totally see that happening. Especially after the latest disappointing movies they've been shoveling out.

    I’m going to back John & Richard up here, it’s because of the show I finally dipped my toe into ‘Love & Rockets’ and was hooked immediately so completely disagree that it’s not a good place to start reading Indie comics. I had no reference for what I was getting into other than the bits and pieces shared on the show and I found it a great leaping off point. Cheers guys for getting me going. 🙏🏼

    Riley Rossmo is an acquired taste. I dropped the Martian Manhunter series due to his art. And whenever I see reviews on comics he’s drawn, they usually trash the art. Apologies to anyone who is a fan.

    Proof was a great series. Think Hellboy with cryptids instead of monsters. Samuel L Jackson was linked to it back in the day. We'll worth the read whether the option comes through or not. Riley Rossmo has done a ton of work for DC over the last few years so I'm a little perplexed at you not seeming to know who he is. In addition to Proof - which has been a hot book before - he did fellow option languisher Cowboy Ninja Viking and a bunch of other work for Image. He has a very solid resume.

    Question: why would people buy the book and not the grade when its the grade that holds all the value? If this wasnt true then nobody would grade books or buy graded books. Saying that ive personally never made a submission to a grading company because a plastic case and a suspect grade by a suspect grading company that can change their grading standards willy nilly which is going to devalue all its customers graded collections has little value to me. Ill pay for a raw copy rather than however much more for an equal condition graded copy and then buy another raw book with the savings from not buying the graded copy. People are really just buying and selling labels at this point if you think about it. But to each their own.

  • @glennsimpson_aka_bobbysaccaro
    @glennsimpson_aka_bobbysaccaro2 күн бұрын

    I would say it a different way, why shouldn't people buy the grade, when they are literally paying more to have that grade? If people could buy books without the grade, we wouldn't need them to be third-party graded. We could either develop a standard for photos that convey all of the information we need, or a third-party company could just receive the raw book, confirm that it agrees with the description on Ebay, and forward it on to the buyer.

  • @Tosh16
    @Tosh162 күн бұрын

    Yeah that's a way to ensure what you paid for in an online purchasing scenario which of course is hugely popular. Think I heard just on ebay there are over 75k sellers selling comics. That's insane if true and being that people have different standards of assigning condition to a book so there has to be a ton of disagreements. I personally won't buy a high value book unless it's in person. I do miss out on alot of books because of that practice I admit but it's how I choose to buy.

    I've always thought CGC (Grading companies) were destroying the hobby. I understand the reasoning for wanting to preserve comics, but there is so many more way to do so with some company giving a grade that is flawed in many ways. So to quote O' Dirty.... I like it Raw!! God Bless you guys!

    That copy of normal man reminds me very much of an old twilight zone episode where a man lands on what he believes to be earth and ends up becoming a zoo exhibit for the people on the planet. They all resemble different creatures and he is the only one that is “normal”. This book sure sounds like a rip off of that episode. What do you guys think? Am I off base?

    I would not trust just CGC to verify a very expensive book. They need to be authenticated by at least 2 different entities. You say it cost a lot? If a book cost a lot it’s just another business expense.
