Apologies for the lack of pizzazz and polish on this episode, as John is joining from the UK! John & Richard have a special comic Show & Tell, with plenty of UK titles, then they dive into the Viewer Mailbag and discuss even more of the CGC vs. CBCS debate. The Hot Book of the Week features classic Pre-Code Horror and The Old Fart Rule features one of the most classic Amazing Spider-Man tales ever.

Good short show guys. For the CBCS and CGC discussion, I'm not a fan of CBCS slabs, BUT the hobby needs them to keep CGC honest. The competition is always good for customers, us, and no matter which side you're on having more than 1 strong verification service only helps everyone. With all the missteps CGC has imagine if there were no competition at all. CGC notes on your book "9.2 because of toe prints."

Have you seen/felt the new CBCS slabs? The market will decide but if you’re interested in the best holder for your book, the new CBCS slab is superior. Firmer, no rings, new label. I only have one book that I tried as a “test”. I’m starting to wonder if I move my personal books (not for sale) into the better holder. It’s that good.

Good to hear you’re back in the UK John 😀 Definitely visit mega city comics in Camden ( about a hundred or so yards from Camden tube station ) fantastic shop ! And if you’re a Ted Lasso fan and visit Richmond they have a small comic shop ‘Raygun’ that’s great 👍 not sure if you’re travelling back but there’s a London comic mart next Sunday (4th)

John, you gotta go to Mega City! If Martin is working (he's the owner) introduce yourself, he's great!

"Tales From The Crypt" (1972) is a very good UK film adapting 5 (I think) EC stories, starring Joan Collins and Peter Cushing and directed by the great Freddie Francis. Highly recommended and free on KZread. Like BRZRKR!", Emilia Clarke's "Mother Of Madness" was on fire for a short while and now languishes at the bottom of cheapie bins, unwanted and unloved. Hey, big Scarecrow fan here, sorry that he's been languishing in Forgotten Character Land for decades. I agree with Richard about the cover for ASM #248, it is really poor. And I also agree about the second story, "The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man", it's perfectly pitched and just works so well. Enjoy London, John, Notting Hill Book Exchange was a highlight for me during my 2019 holiday in the UK; sadly I never did find Hugh Grant's travel book shop or spill orange juice on Julia Roberts ("Notting Hill" movie references there).

That Spider Man story on the child with leukemia really impacts the reader and is a real tearjerker. Excellent story.

Re: Scarecrow on cover: I'm thinking that they would use the original cover of whatever story was *starting* that issue.

There are some really cool "The Super-Heroes" Marvel UK reprints to look out for. Mostly Silver Surfer and FF reprints I think. The covers are just really cool to me.

I submitted 6 modern comics to CBCS beginning of this year and got them back last week. It was only about 2 to 2.5 weeks turn around time.

Very enjoyable show guys, yes that race for the moon was actually published by Thorpe and Porter who had a very similar house style to Alan Class in fact Thorpe and Porter came first , both bought licencing rights from Marvel, National, Charlton etc, you are quite right they dont demand a high price the only ones of any real expense are the Alan Class ones that had the marvel covers and stories in them. enjoy your time in the UK with your partner John and a great T - shirt Richard you cant beat a bit of Forbidden Planet merchandise they are very iconic.

Isn't that Pearl Necklace Archie from the late '70s? 35 cents and a barcode? Oh, they knew what they were doing then!

Hey guys thanks for reading my last comment. I want to add to it. Did you guys see that Beckett is going to start grading Manga? Beckett, not CBCS, Beckett. It’s basically a CBCS slab with Beckett printed where CBCS normally would be. This speaks volumes about Beckett’s belief in CBCS and the CBCS brand. #freecbcs

That back up Spider-man story was mentioned multiple time by other Spider-man creators of the 80s as their fave Spidey story too, high praise when other creators keep mentioning it.

I don't care whose is number 1 in the grading business. I want grading notes on all comics submitted. I want graders not to drop books, put finger prints or put a spine tic on my comic and not own up to it but grade the comic when they know they damaged my comic.
