Richard, I know I have mentioned it before but you really need to read the 12 issue maxi series of Freedom Fighters by Robert Vendetti. Top 10 read from last 10 years. I think you’ll love it and it’s a relatively quick run. Finally gives us the Freedom Fighters struggling through a world where WW2 didn’t go our way.

I think the infamy of that issue is that, when Bill Gaines was on the stand during the Senate hearings on juvenile delinquency, he was asked if that particular cover “was in bad taste.” He responded that, no, it was not…for a horror comic. If the woman’s head had been lifted up to see the blood dripping more, it would. (He claimed to be on “diet pills” that day, and thus, not in the right mind, so… And one thing I learned about the Air Pirates comics is that the covers of both issues were swipes from 1930s Mickey Mouse Big Little Books. #1 was taken from the cover to one where Mickey was a mail pilot, and #2 was swiped from Mickey bs The Black Bat. The original cover had The Bat holding a bag of money, but, like #1, the bag had “dope” written on it. I only discovered this detail when I went through a short phase of collecting vintage BLBs last year and acquired the Black Bat volume. I’ve always wanted that Air Pirates 2 just for the cover but was able to get the 1930s BLB for a fraction of the price. (I still want Air Pirates #2, though. One day…)

Another KZreadr submitted a comic to CGC with reversible repairs, hoping to get a green "Qualified" label, but CGC gave him a purple "Restored" label instead. He cracked it and sent it back with a note explaining the repairs in detail and that they could be reversed, and they gave him the green label that time. My point is, if you're sending CGC something with odd production, like tape on the cover, it may help to attach a quick note to the book so they don’t ding you for it.

I figured collectors would choose direct market copies over their newsstand versions as they are more prone to spine ticks and fingerprint smudges, in my days of collecting I always would pick the 3rd or 4th copy from the back.

I've been listening to the cars a lot lately! Their debut album is so well written and produced. Pure perfection!

Russell Dauterman had a very good run on one of Jason Aaron's Thor series. Your $3.99 comic is $8.99 here in Australia. Hence I buy very few monthly titles and no Annuals or miniseries. I can see myself soon buying only collections and only when they are on sale or second-hand on Ebay. Just saw that Blood Hunt Crime SuspenStories homage cover comic on Ebay Australia for $375! I sent the seller a best offer of $25.

Great show, per usual. I’m very curious about the outcome of the person with the UK Real Ghostbusters submission. I’ve had a similar dilemma with the UK version of Prince: Alter Ego. The UK version has a Prince Symbol pin taped to the cover (the US version has nothing) and I wondered how it would fare in submission. Hopefully he can provide an update. Thanks for the education and entertainment. JD

Best guess on that cover is that they hired him to do the cover of one of the Pride books and just didn't go with it, but are getting some use out of it here. On comics formats, for some reason I've got it in my head that the publishers actually look to the individual issues to pay for the art, and then the trade paperbacks are when they really make their money. So the problem with going out with thick content to start with is the publisher has to front all of that money (pay the artists ahead of time to some degree) when they've never had to do it before. John, just making sure, you know that Marvel's "Agents of Atlas" series of mini-series include Venus, right?

Love the show Snoopy was sold out when we arrived we got there around an hour after the shop opened at 11am I did see there’s a Trade paperback for Begal Scout Adventures are they the same stories? Because Titan had FCBD Conan but in the Volume 1 TPB it’s not reprinted so I’m not sure if that was a Peanuts story only available on FCBD But it was a fun time we took my Nephew who turned 8 months old Saturday he loved the comic store and he got the Disney Jr. Spider-Man comic They didn’t have the Venus Hardcover but I did get the FCBD copy and some Darkhorse EC archives TPB

For FCBD and Star Wars day, my LCS had literal stacks of Marvel Special Edition Star Wars #1 and #2 treasuries for only $20 each! I should’ve bought the whole stacks just for the flip

Re: Bondage Covers - at CBCS we love to tag things as "bondage covers" but we have a policy that we do not use the "bondage cover" comment on books that feature men in bondage as a policy.

Final final comment cause I just remembered when you mentioned CGC Did you see the 7.5 TMNT 3rd printing that sold for $8,000 because it wasn’t labeled a 3rd printing on the CGC case 😓 I feel bad for whoever bought that

If the comic book stores have to pay for the comics they are giving away on free comic book day why not give people choice from their dollar bins. Would that be cheaper?
