Re: the live premiere/Membership giveaway - apologies, I made this go live early for Members and didn't know doing that removed the Live Premiere option for everyone else! We'll try that again next week!

For the fella asking about the ASM 129, for reference, I had one graded last year that unfortunately had a cigarette burn in the back cover that went through a page as well. Came back a 4.5. I’d recommend the CGC grading guidelines book as well. I’ve found it very helpful as I mostly buy raw and grade my own books. Thanks John and Richard!

Actually most of the DC line went to 50 cents during the couple months of the DC Explosion. Each book had a backup feature that was heavily promoted in the comics. After a couple months they pulled most of the backup features, and dropped the prices to 40 cents. A side note to this was Mike Grell was supposed to bring Starslayer to DC during the DC Explosion. He was able to get the rights back and bring it to Pacific.

If you send that Spider-verse comic into CBCS you can get a yellow label, no need to settle for a blue label!

Heroes Con and Baltimore Comic Con are practically identical - both pure comics. Baltimore does have some celebrities but as you probably saw it was isolated.

I second the vote for you guys to come to Heroes Con! I live in NC and have been to shows in several different states. Heroes is definitely one of the best comic show that I have ever attended! I can also get you in touch with Sheldon who owns the show.

I think the artist's first work on a title used to carry a lot more weight or value years ago. Marvel Team-up #53 with Byrne's first work on X-Men was (and still is to a limited extent) a stand out book and quite pricey in my younger years of collecting. The same goes for Frank Miller's first work on Daredeveil with Spectacular Spider-man #27 and Jim Starlin's first issue in Captain Marvel. They've still held some decent value, but it doesn't feel like the same premium as it used to be. Byrne was an especially hot artist growing up and all his 'first' work on a title commanded a premium.

Great pick, John, concerning the Iron Fist #15. Highly underrated book, no doubt. As an honorary mention, you should have also talked about Byrne's first art of the X-Men in Marvel Team-Up #53. But I forgive you. 😉 As always, thanks for the show.

Happy you enjoyed the gift, John!! 😄 I hadn’t really perused the interiors much, but from the sound of it, sounds like you might have some… CONTINUED enjoyment of it!! 😉😉😂 It’s like an analog version of the “Mr Skin” website for celebrity nudes, if the only celebrity they cared about was Hercules 😂🤷‍♂️ Anyway, it came across my desk, what am I gonna do, NOT send it to you?? Keep up the great work fellas, much love! ❤🤘🙌

You know what after you started trashing that hulk annual by Byrne. I was just reminded of my talk with Mike Vosburg over at Cal comic con. Ever since I saw your video interview with Ron Marz at LA Comic con I've been trying to talk to artists who attend cons, about their past work. I wanna know more about their stories since they're getting older and we don't know how long they'll be here with us 😢. I had Mike Vosburg sign my punisher #5 and when he saw he said "you just HAD to bring this book" 😂 he said he was rushed to finish the pencils on that book. He was given 2 weeks and when he submitted it, the editors at marvel told him it was some of the worst work they've seen lol I was laughing. Thought I would share. He's a nice guy. I'm definitely gonna be talking to more artists like that at cons.

Hi guys, how’s everyone? In regard to some of these really large comic conventions, I must say that the best ones that I have been to happen to be the small community-based shows. For example, in New Jersey, a person by the name of John Paul runs an amazing group of shows every Sunday in three different locations. Each weekend it’s at a different location with a five dollar entrance fee and just comics. Some of them are very big ones too such as Incredible Hulk #1. AF #15 etc. There’s also tables upon tables of dollar books. Everyone knows everyone and it’s just a really good time. when one goes to the large shows they can get lost from one row to the next and often have difficulty finding true comic book vendors. And with those extraordinarily high entrance fees, why would anyone want to do that if they’re really looking for books. I say take some of that money people are paying you to be members and come to New Jersey and visit a real show for comic book lovers just my thoughts onlarge shows versus small community based ones.

Hey guys! Great show as usual. Concerning artists first time on characters, my Daredevil 158 (first Frank Miller on the reg title) is one of my favorites as he was able to take a waning character and make him into must read for years. And by the way, I LOVED Deadly Discs of Tron. I got to a point where I could make a dollar last at least an hour with that game. I miss those arcade days.

Just had a thought. Have you ever reached out to the children of Jack Kirby? I know they were out there being critical of the Stan Lee documentary and I feel your channel would be an AMAZING platform for them to talk about their family.

As far as first appearances go, what are your thoughts on Magazine Sized books? Do they count? Rocket Raccoon, Star-lord or Man-thing for examples.

I think a characters’ reception and popularity can often be directly tied to (or at least heavily influenced by) the artist’s portrayal of them. I’m 32 yo and I value some “artists’ first works” almost as much as other key issues. On that note, I think Daredevil 16 (first John Romita Sr. work drawing Spider-Man) is far too undervalued. But I guess it might be more sought after if it were in the ASM title.

What an ethical conundrum the missing Ultimate Black Panthers might present: if the 12,000 copies are found, they could be quietly destroyed to maintain scarcity. Hmm..... Or they've already been destroyed. Hmmmmm..... I remember Spidey accidentally killing someone in Spider-Man vs. Wolverine and I remember being really shocked at this. Were there ever any repercussions to this event? Similar to the trade publications which some claim as the first appearance of a character are the comics with an ad for Incredible Hulk #181 which some sellers are charging a premium for as a "preview" of that book. This is simply an attempted justification for overcharging. King Conan/Conan The King is a very good title that really deepens Conan's character and adds a new cast of supporting characters who hang around for most of the series. It still reads well today. A small number of "first art by X on character Y" issues matter: McFarlane on Spidey, Byrne on X-Men, Miller on Daredevil, Lee on X-Men to a lesser degree. Most don't.

There is a tradition of photo comics from the 70s & 80s from UK & Europe (Romance comics come to mind). I wonder if the Obi-Wan title is a “tribute” to that style of story telling. TBH, some of the interior art we get these days, not sure I’d prefer photo realism instead of some the chicken scratching that sometimes passes for “comic art”? 🎨
