It always amazes me people don't get the hip hop vibe this song gives me. It's Rock but it's got a hip hop feel in my opinion. Tools lyrics always have at least 2 ways to interprete them. For instance this song can be taken to be about Corrupt Government/legal system or Hypocrisy in general or specifically about the legality of Drugs. Or you could even go deeper than that. Many of their songs lyrics are very tounge in cheek. Imo Some have 1 meaning but most have a surface level interpretation and a second deeper level meaning.

As someone who did listen to this "back in the day," I loved it first for the music, but I also took the message from it. I think it's crazy how much has changed and how much hasn't since this album came out. This and Operation Ivy...it seems like times should change, but they don't.

Graduated HS ‘94! Loved this band, believed in raging against the machine (90’s war, 90’s criminal justice, 90’s censorship, etc!)! We’re still here, friends; we just happen to be about 50yo! LOL

i liked seeing it from your perspective (im ukrainian) i also love tims songs for more than a decade and i wanted to interpret the meaning of this song in my way: thins song is many things at once; from one side it tells exactly the story of your feelings toward the other ginger word, from another - by the fact the he caught you in his bait so easily, even though the hint was there all the time (he's unapologetically ginger), he basically catches your own prejudice towards thinking that something is about you when its not (even though it could've been)

I think the burden of educating should be on the formal system (which sucks unfortunately), but relying on individuals to teach you as an adult is a burden if they don't want to teach

Even though I come from a very different country and culture to the one that helped to inspire RATM, I can say - at least for myself and the people I was surrounded by - their music helped us to become the people we are today. Their music wasn’t about violence or intolerance, it was about seeing the truth and questioning the status quo. It was about not accepting what was put in front of you and, at least for me personally, I think music like this helped me to grow into to someone that can form their own opinions. These guys were the poets of our generation that taught us about unity and toxicity of intolerance.

Subscribed for your Tool reactions. I really like how you're breaking it down and speaking on how these make you feel. Please please use sound only, headphones and lyrics. This is the best way to experience Tool. And give Parabol / Parabola a try. A transcendental experience!

Yeah every instrument and the singer are doing something different and they get it together somehow. That's why it's so hard to figure out timing and who is doing what. That's TOOL.
