You misinterpreted his bars wrong, hes not saying being on stage is like being in the cotton fields. Hes saying they made it to the stages from the cotton fields and yet here we are rapping about bullshit

that part. and also how he said "they're rapping in a slave deal, we clapping while they hang" , in reference to even though we now have this so-called freedom and opportunities, we don't. literally on stage rapping on contracts with companies who have 90 percent of our earnings, and control of us. similarly to how it was in said "past"
