I have Steinberg UR22C and I should connect two outboards: reverb processor (Yamaha spx 50D) and a compressor. Do you think it's better to upgrade to a better outboard, to buy a mixer to connect everything or both?? Any suggestions are welcome.
Wonderful and very informative video. Lots of great details. Would you say the SSL2+ is on par with the Behringer UMC404HD? I need something with midi I/O and have come down to those two. I know you have used the SL2+ for your own purposes. Thanks again for a great and useful video. Hard to find these days.
Very glad I (on a budget) went with SSL2, and I’ve really enjoyed it.
many people would be very interested in what you think of the apogee symphony desktop
the Steinberg UR-C series all have on board DSP. That is part of the price (and feature set). Since you did not know include it as part of the feature set; I question your test methods as you would not have addressed the DSP setup and settings. Also of note is The Class A Yamaha D-Pre is a derivative of Yamaha professional mixers I doubt they are "noisy", but are not Neve preamps also a bit noisy. Noise is not everything. I am not associated with Yamaha or Steinberg and actually a Focusrite fan. I own a Focusrite Forte and Saffire Pro 24
thank you for this review, i was looking to get the motu m2 but seems like I might change my mind 🤔
where is Roland ?
Very good overview. Amplifying signals cleanly is a solved problem. Also, converting to digital is a solved problem. A good preamp can add color that you like. A bad preamp has a higher noise floor. That's all. Everything else is audiophile humbug.
i was patient to watch till the end. Shame as always no view on reliability: I used to have audient ID and EVO8 and they got faulty just after warranty time. real shame and audient service terrible. I don't like Focusrite historically , yet I find the new scarless phenomenal .. and I like the sound of it. but time will show if it is reliable. probably not!! for studio.. Only rely on my Lynx Aurora. interested about the lewitt though. i will never buy audient again. particularly with no support ( just being told to bin the faulty unit and buy a new one is very rude. )
SPL Crimson is the best
I feel like the Motu you're using might be defective, because I couldn't reproduce that weird distorition with the heaphone amps on my friend's M2.
I got the Furman AC-210 A E Power Conditioner for my HEDD Type 07 speakers. Mainly for the protection. They’re pretty expensive so I want them to work for as long as possible
Still using my gen 1 Komplete Audio 6. See no need to change.
This was pretty simple, for a beginner. Thanks for the video! I am wondering, do you have a more advanced tutorial? Where is it best to set gain for a chain? Mic preamp -> compress -> audio interface. They all have input and output levels, where is best to boost the volume a bit to avoid added noise? Does it depend on the quality of gear? Let's ignore that and assume all of the preamps are the same, do the functions (preamp vs compress vs audio interface) have any inherit benefits of boosting earlier or later in the chain? Or do you just boost them all the same until you get a usable audio level?
Best and Worst BUDGET**** Audio Interfaces of 2024
I landed here because I switched from a GoPro to an Ace Pro camera to use for my motorcycle recordings. Using the exact same microphone (Movo) wired to both devices. The resulting waveform in the GoPro is great and I can see motorcycle noise and then my talking easily stands out. With Ace Pro, it's all small and looks alike. Can't figure out how to fix it.
Another video selling that piece of plastic junk SSL 2 .. Yeah, it sounds great until it doesn't. Mine was bricked within 6 months. Bought the Clarett and everything is peachy now. Do yourself a favor.. spend a little extra, but definitely stay away from the SSL 2. There's a weird amount of hype surrounding that machine online, and it feels a little bit fishy to me. I listened to the hype and bought it.. wish I wouldn't have.
do you know if the Zoom L12 has a good preamp noise floor? Can't find those specs anywhere.
elephant in the room! No RME in noise tests
Excellent review. goes on to say trust your ears and choose what sounds good to you.
Motu M4 does not do this thing you say in the end where the headphone affects the microphone input.
Thanks for the video. You reviewed a lot of crap but missed a very popular brand such as RME!
Hey , u used a antelope interface? how u compare he with other interfaces? thanks in advance
Great work, man! :)
In my experience 90% of Germany and Austrian products are fantastic
How about RME Fireface UCX II?
Hello In Anubis same circuit with preamps? Cheers

Whats the best interface for beyerdynamic 990 pro?
Can we please stop doing this? Do proper testing like Audio Science Review with the right test equipment and an understanding of science. I mean what you are doing is slightly better than the videos where guys are like "I dont like this interface its noisy!... I like this one it sounds good!", but only by a little bit.
Just subscribed - an amazing amount of thought, knowledge, and ingenuity has gone into this extremely thorough and exhaustive series of tests. I have the SSL 12 interface, and love it. One advantage of having more inputs is that one can leave multiple different mics plugged in and ready to go, eg for recording an acoustic guitar followed by the singer putting down the vocal tracks. No mic cable juggling, no pulling plugs in and out, etc - just switch to the different active mic channel on the SSL.
Thank you ❤
You had my interest until you said you can NOT bypass the internal pres. No danke schoen for me. I would have to sell my 16 class A pre amps with transformers and I just can't do that!
Awesome. Whats that cheap iSK Cheap mic model ? Can you plz write down its exact model name? And do you think with SSL you can great audio even with very cheap mic?
Nice

I love this - so fantastically nerdy 👌
Friendly suggestion: when talking about lists of things where you spend a minute or two talking about different items, please put the name of the item you're currently talking about on the screen. Chapters are cool too :) Thanks for all of this testing!
great information. I have a noob question: what is the advantage for singers to hear themselves? sure, they need to hear the music and/or the click, but why the own voice?
Fantastic explanation, thx!!
Hi I don't understand this: Isn't the signal from the audio interface to the mixer delayed? If yes, what do I hear through the headphones?
excellent video. Very informative. High quality content here. I have always considered the Apollo as one of my options. I think I could get away with Audient!
Hi I'm buying an audio interface and my concerning is about latency as using mainly for singing. For what I understand I have very few interfaces that send the signal directly to the output. Alternatively I could send the input (voice) to a pre-amp and then into a mixer. I'm seeing the Beringer 204 but it is not AC powered. Two XLR are enough for me... What do you think of Steinberg UR 24C? Thanks for the video.
Helpful.
@Get.Beautiful.Recordings I HAVE A MORE CHALLENGING LATENCY FIX IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME! 😢 PLEASE🙏
Surprised you would pick the Behringer over the SSL2 on a $200 budget considering the SSL 2 measures much better and has a better form factor and sound and Preamps.
Very helpful thank you
Amazing!! A true audio nerd!
