NASCAR is visiting Nashville this weekend and during the pre race show somebody mentioned that there are 180 live music venues in the Downtown area. !80, if you managed to make it to five or six a night you would still have to stay a month to see everything. That is incredible. The race winner's trophy is a guitar, awesome.........

Many players at ALL levels are just too damned loud. Also, when I see a vid of a club player and they rely on "lick packages", usually cribbed from SRV, drives me nuts. Instead of leaving space and economizing on their limited vocab, they run through every stock lick package 2 or 3 times in a single song.

Hi Tom. In the spirit of these evaluation videos and your recent one on intermediate players/new session players, I think a cool episode would be to interview the guys from Cliffs on their experience in studio for debut album. Since new to them, would be interesting to hear what they learned, what surprised them, what they thought when going in vs after the experience. That discussion could be helpful and benefit other Home Skoolers that also might just be starting out in sessions. Anyway, just a thought that came to mind for an interesting episode. Thanks for all you do! Love your videos

I see a lot of comments of having "huevos grandes" to submit a video. Don't musicians do that every time they play in public? I kinda see it as if better musicians never give you brutal advice or your ego is too fragile....stay off the porch. Go play a biker bar... Any rate...great concept for videos. A bit pricey imo, but everyone needs to make a living. Eager to see more!

On point. Always noticed certain (even very tech adept) players seem to be unaware of their physicality when playing. When someone goes super uptight in the way they move...usually sounds it too. Tried telling a buddy years ago that singing would really help his guitar playing. Not to make a great or even good voice where there isn't one...but to understand space and phrasing. And what singer (that ya wanna listen to) is constantly straining physically? Just wouldn't do that.

I recently heard about an online circus show where a “social media troll” expressed many disparaging opinions regarding a particular working musician who plays in a tribute group. The troll tore down the musician with many harsh remarks… Saying he had no business paying tribute to this artist having sub par skills & spending zero time studying the artist’s technique & music. The troll credits himself as THE authority on this particular artist’s technique, music & claims his transcriptions are 100% accurate. Well, I viewed a couple KZread video’s of this troll & I believe he is miles away from being any kind of authority & I find his own skills guilty of every dagger he’s thrown publicly towards his tribute musician adversary. I realize my assessment of the trolls ability also can be argued by the KZread community & I believe the only ones really qualified to judge would be guys like Uncle Larry or some of his home skoolin’ golden ear buddies. I guess my point is thanks Larry for being available as someone we can trust the opinion of.😊

Love the "strangling the neck" comment. I don't have much time to play and that's a bad habit I got from day one. Started on a Sears guitar with 10's on it and learning chords was a wrestling match. All of your points are on point and cover a common aspect of playing, touch. The reason I love the guitar so much, it's very tactile which lends to how versatile an instrument it is. I Love how you can set and change the mood by how hard you hit the strings, how loud or quiet you sound the instrument, the way you phrase and given number of notes, all while swinging in the pocket. I love waiting until the last minute to find home. I learned drums first, so rushing is not so much an issue except when I'm trying to lay down a track, just got to play more, when I was a kid and didn't think, that was easier to do. Being an old guy now, overplaying is easier to avoid as I'd rather play short and tasteful licks and grove without flaw within my limits remembering that my purpose is to add to the music in a complimenting way. Thanks for the good laugh I had as I enjoyed your recital of some of my life struggles with the guitar. I had another bad habit of only using full 6 string chords, I thought using triads , power chords, and double stops was being lazy, that really held me back. Loved this video and really enjoy the channel.
