I've been playing slide for over 50 years. I toured with a Hawaiian Show Band in the early 70's. I'd sometimes tune to a 6th. It would give that Hawaiian sound. No one ever taught me anything on guitar, I developed a bad habit of putting the slide in my middle finger. I can still play chords with it on though. One trick many people don't know, I usually tune my bottom string to a "D". It gives that 'Allman' type tone without changing your whole tuning.

For the curious, Tom Britt has a solo album or two. One of ‘em is called Elevator Man. Really cool record. Check it out.
Thanks Uncle Larry for your immense knowlege and insight..im still afraid of bouncing off the frets and flaming off the rails though 😂😂😂
It’s kinda crazy. As amazing as Larry is as a player, I find that lately I am coming for the talking part more than the playing. 4:06 my favorite moment of wisdom.
5:18 a KILLER slide lick, I tried it immediately and it feels fantastic. And actually 5:12 also a tasty little slide lick when Uncle Larry shows us how NOT to bend the slide!! :D Even that sounds perfect. Thank you for everything you do once again!
Electro Harmonix Freeze pedal is fun for slide too.
Way cool Tom! One of your better posts!
Okay that was actually HUGE for me to hear you say you do not mute behind the slide. As a casual slide player I have always been led to believe you have to do that and I have never been that good at it. Great video
Man that was some sweet Betts / Allman slide ..
I dont know if you look forward to making these Tom but I sure do look forward to them.
As we say, better sharp than out of tune.
I was watching Bonnie Raitt the other day and noticed her slide is on her middle finger. Seems to help her voice chords over the slide finger. She's got a strong pinky
Good Mornin'
