Hey! I’m having issues with my thermostat on my e21. I put a new one in and the overheat issue got worse, it seems as if the thermostat isn’t opening as the hose to the radiator is completely cold but the engine side is hot. I’ve heard air bubbles are a bit of an issue on these engines, do you have a method of getting all the air out? I’m filling the system with the temp sensor out until coolant comes out of the divider, then reinstalling and topping the rad off whilst running the engine with the heater set to heat. (The heater has never worked since I owned the car, it’s blowing cold air out) The temp gauge reaches 3/4 and I have to turn the engine off to prevent overheating. I’m all out of ideas at this point 😢
@themotobarn7023 ай бұрын
Are you positive the temp sensor isn't faulty? What about the water pump? If you went with a good name brand thermostat you should be ok, but it's always possibly to get a lemon.
@neighboursnemesis2073 ай бұрын
@@themotobarn702 I’m not 100% sure on the temp sensor but the temp gauge steadily rises over the course of a few minutes and the engine is definitely getting red hot before the stat opens. I do have a new water pump that arrived so I’m going to try throwing that on too and I’ll throw the new stat in boiling water and see if it opens (I didn’t think to check it prior which is looking like a rookie mistake). I’m not sure what brands are good for the stats but the one I have is a calorstat brand. Do you think if I have a bad water control valve for my cabin heater that maybe that could be stopping air from bleeding properly? The heat has never worked since I owned the car.
@themotobarn7023 ай бұрын
@@neighboursnemesis207 that is a possibility, I guess, but my money is on a faulty pump or thermostat. However, you saying that it will never blow hot is suspicious. I can't tell you I have much advice on that one, other than to definitely look into it.
