There's quite a lot of information on counterfeit NGK plugs from NGK. Its mainly the iridium plugs on Ebay and Amazon that are fakes. The standard NGK R I haven't seen counterfeited yet.

Right, which I had seen at the time, but there wasn't too much out there on these plugs. I'm still on the fence about it myself but it sure is odd.

Been chasing my tale too for a long time. Figured out last saturday that I had a bad plug, using an ohmeter, totally open circuit. Fancy ngk iridium plug with less than 1k miles. Bought two new one's from auto parts, replaced the bad one. compared the bad one with my other new one, EXACT same plug. Have watched about 2 hours of YT videos on how to spot the fakes. Bike ran awesome last sunday. took it out yesterday, started stalling again at idle at lights! Used a heat thermometer infared gun to locate the next bad cylinder. Took out the plug this morning, same reading with ohmeter as other, nothing. Put in a new plug(luckily I bought 2). WTH? Two genuine plugs that didn't even last 1k miles. It's just unbelievable. I have 4 cylinders, so that leaves the inner two with the other plugs, and they are more work to get at. Gonna drive it and hope for the best, it is getting really old. At least, at least, I know what is going on. Either ngk iridium spark plugs are way over rated, or someone is making fakes that look EXACTLY the same as the real. It's quite the mystery.

Yeah, from my search the iridium plugs are the most copied. Unless your bike calls for that plug, you really can't beat an old, reliable copper plug.

@@themotobarn702 I got them off Amazon in May of 2019(I hardly ever ride this bike). $54 for a set of 4. From a company called Summerland Auto Sports, they have been in business since 87. They have almost 5K reviews with an 89% giving them 5 stars. The few that were negative all got resolved and NONE were, I got fake plugs. From everything I’ve seen, they are real.

@@doug2993 my bike is all good now and runs strong with a bit leaner jetting and/or one step hotter plug. 2 strokes can be finick but I love them!

You cannot tell a fake spark plug by looking at it. I only buy them at an auto store or in your case a motorcycle dealer. Some fake auto parts look fake, others are identical to the real thing.

That's what's so frustrating. Haven't really had any issues lately but all of the plugs have been from an auto parts store.

Same thing just happened to me. Ordered 4 ngk br8eix iridium plugs from Amazon. 2002 kdx200 and is in absolutely tip top shape. When the bike gets warm it dies

Yep, I believe the iridium plugs are the ones with the most copycats. Did you verify the plug is actually shot? I'd honestly recommend just using the very standard plug. It's much cheaper, reliable, and made for the bike.
