    I bought my NGK from Rock Auto. The last were Denso Iridium from Amazon and the center electrodes all wore off to where the gap is way to big than the 0.044 in spec'd. Checking hte engine but so far no issues.

    Great informational video, thankyou. Just purchased 4 spark plugs on ebay called "iridium". Waiting for their arrival. From the photos, have "Japan" stamped on the hex section of the plug where the spark plug socket sits to tighten/loosen. I will be sending back for a refund. Price set of 4 was 18.99. My alarm bells should have been ringing as the price is really cheap for iridiums. Cheers from Australia.

    At less than full throttle, your throttle plate is more restrictive than your air filter. Factory filters are generally a bit more restrictive but offer better filtration, the "high performance" ones flow more freely at the cost of compromised filtration. Do a used oil analysis on your oil with a genuine OEM filter and then drop a K&N in there and you'll see higher silicon content in the K&N oil change. As far as oil filters there's really not anything that's going to magically improve performance. If your filter is clogged up to the point that it is restricting flow the bypass valve kicks in and allows full oil flow to the oil pump, though it is not being filtered. The main differences in oil filters are the media itself and how efficient it is at filtering, the amount of filtration media in the filter, the material the anti-drain back valve is made of, and the overall construction of the filter. You won't gain any performance by using a better filter but you can reduce the number of particulates in your oil by using a quality filter.

    The real crime is that some of the major manufacturers like AC Delco are making spark plugs in China as well. The traditional mantra for small block Chevy engines is to just stick with AC Delco. All manufacturing in China answers to the Communist party above all else including the USA based "manufacturer." Therefore there is no guarantee of quality control for a Chinese made plug even though it is an authentic product. Chinese made equipment is OK in some applications, but not for things made of porcelain that are just microns away from my pistons slinging back and forth 5 thousand times a minute. I've had good luck with Japanese made NGKs so maybe I'll try some NGK XR5s in my 1970 Corvette. Hopefully I'll get some authentic ones at the auto parts store that are still made in Japan.

  • @freddaniali

    @freddaniali

    While I agree with about 90 percent of your statement here, one thing that you cannot take away from the Chinese is the fact that they make awesome porcelain... thus "Fine China".... you know, all the plates and stuff... Now if you have issues with the electrode side, that's a different story altogether. Now with the whole Bat Stew Flu issue, I think things are about to change real fast here. You are going to find more Vietnamese, Indian, and Mexican plugs.

  • @dojmike

    @dojmike

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@freddaniali You are correct and make a good point. As I recall from my college international history classes, the Chinese invented porcelain, and the finest kaolin (main ingredient in porcelain, and also ironically kaopectate) comes from China. While Chinese porcelain gave the term "fine" to its product, it was invented sometime in the Eastern Han Dynasty somewhere around the time Jesus was conducting His ministry on Earth. I am not aware of the politics in china 2,000 years ago, but I do know that today, Communist China uses slave labor in its manufacturing facilities and has complete control over quality. AC Delco may think they control the quality in the Chinese AC Delco slave labor factories, but the Chinese Communist Party controls everything. Even in my 5-6 email exchange with George Adams from GM on this issue, he refused to even acknowledge that AC Delco plugs are even made in China. He just parroted lines about AC Delco plugs being the finest quality made from the finest materials... just like he was instructed to by his masters in China. OK, maybe the Chinese AC Delco plugs are good; and certainly my Chinese made iPhone is of good quality; however, I am still more comfortable eating my Thanksgiving dinner on fine "China" than I am powering my 1970 Corvette with 17,800 original miles on it with Chinese plugs. You are also correct about the future involving Vietnam, India, Mexico etc., but as long as the Japanese make NGK plugs in Japan, I will use them. I think NGK may be the best OE plugs available these days. It says something that NGK plugs are being counterfeited in China, which is why I never order NGK plugs on-line. I only buy them reputable walk-in retailers like Autozone or O'Reilly. Happy motoring!

    Some automotive stock is made primarily for the Asian market. If the spark plug works as it is suppose to then one should take their silly rants elsewhere. Products made for the Asian market won't be identical to the those in the N.A. market. Other than the outside of the spark plug not being 100% exactly the same as an original NGK spark plug there is no real proof that the NGK plugs are indeed "fake" knock offs. Nearly everyone I know who has taken their vehicle for servicing has gotten scammed majorly by both shady and legit mechanics. Mechanics today will "ALWAYS" make sure that if a car is taken in for servicing that the customer will not be able to remove their car from the service area without at least a +$2500 service bill. Given that notion, most mechanics will tend to lie since it is in their best interest to lie and not tell the customer the real truth these days.... To manufacturer a spark plug requires way too many pieces of sophisticated and dedicated (and highly expensive) machinery. If a Chinese company wanted to clone a spark plug and make the plug as look as similar to an NGK as possible then they would just re-brand the spark plug under their own name and have minor changes that would distinguish their plug as different from the competition. I do know that what tends to happen in Asia is that many of factory workers do take some of the factory (due to minor superficial imperfections) rejects home with them and resell the rejects on EBAY to supplement their low income. The factory rejects do not look 100% perfect like the original plugs but the factory rejects should still pass OEM standards and work like original NGK spark plug.

    *Could you imagine car dealerships loading up with these and causing severe damage to their customers cars. Or at least a never ending mysterious problem with their engine that the $tealer$hip would be happy to waste your money on I bet this is going on. *There are many cars that dealerships charge more than $1,000 to change the spark plugs because the plugs are so BURIED INTERNALLY that the whole top of the engine has to be removed to reveal the plugs. Thanks Ford . . . just to name one of many. Also, Examine a new car closely before you buy. Learn how to tell if an engine has a timing belt or CHAIN just by looking at the front of the engine. All high volume sellers ( Amazon / eBay and others ) better have a network of competent secret shoppers or else . . . because they certainly bear some responsibility in this too. The battle of Fake vs Genuine Merchandise should never be fought by the consumer . . . NEVER. What is Sold Here . . . Should be MADE HERE. Support Pres. Trump. It seems this fundamental failure has been going on for years . . . No Excuse i.e. A lot of people are Not Doing Their Job.
