I've always liked the noise the 37 makes, I was woken up by one idling when I lived in Falkirk, not particularly near the railway. I was puzzled, but later found out it was waiting to pick up an empty timber wagon from the local timber mechant, I didn't know there was a line there. And I worked for BR at the time.

We often use to Load bank 56's with roof / silencers off at IMM , you could really hear them turbos scream , first one we load banked at IMM it caught fire , sucked all exhaust sparks into electrical compartment filters and set fire to them You knew the power before taking readings as soon as them turbos screamed , they were pig to work on though

I've seen so many videos like this where there is little to no ventilation and they start diesels. What is it with these people and shops??

Pretty scary starting in the building after that long, if something sticks and goes into runaway, and starts the roof on fire.

Why weren't they moving the loco with the other unit rather than destroying the cylinders that were already damaged

Filling a shed with smoke is not a good idea. I have recently read about the Balvano train disaster, where several hundreds of people were killed by smoke in a tunnel.

Its the firing order running down the crank that makes that lovely sound. Two pots firing at the same time hence to "hunting" after all have fired down the crank.Gives huge torque to the gen sets.
