56103 start up
Комедия
56103 finally bursts into life. This one did not want to start, we had to jump start it off 56091 and in the end a dose of easy start was required. It shut itself down after 30 seconds as it was not charging. Will sort that next week.

excellent start up by the class 56
No wonder trains are always late.
It's like me when I get up early in the morning. It takes me a while to get going.
This is why they never shut them down back in the day!

Coff, coff, splutter, splutter!! A Grid doing what they do best. That will clear when she warms through. A bit.....
Gotta love a Grid. Total show offs!!!
Rumours say it's still goin to be started.
Was there at Doncaster Works the day they started the first Romanian Import 56 for the first time, incredible clag and they don't seem to have improved any over the years.

I think that despite the 56s being built to meet energy needs during an oil crisis they were heavy on fuel / oil...
Paxman and English Electric engines are just pure filth when they are cold
Not bad though; good work Dan, Neil, etc.
be nice to see 103 in its new paint job .
Top vid Dan.
Ha ha I made a model version of a reluctant starter, using 56 sound files but with a BR130 (Ludmilla) people forget just how hard these beasts work, and the staff that keep them going!
Obviously not happy about waking up: know the feeling.
To its defense, it doesn't add much to that dense fog.
56103 did a mainline run on the 2nd August 2014. Re-instated a couple of weeks before so good news!

soon to be in DCR dark grey ....
Very nice, good luck with the rest of the overhaul :)
That reminds me of Willie Nelson's bus.
Great stuff, another one on the way! Life must be busy at the moment?
Grumpy start!
Nice to see :)
Apparently, the British railways have one of the biggest shares in global pollution.

And long may it live 👍👍👍👌
Dave law is defo been on board.
Little bit of clag.....OK then maybe a lot!!
Why are these things so difficult to start? I have never seen this on older Austrian Diesel Engines. (but they are ususaly smaller and only have 5 axels).

56103 has never been the best 56 .. im glad its still alive though
That would struggle to start on a cold morning, it’s not generating enough Cylinder Temperature on Cranking.
Dang even GE GEVO toasters dont roll coal as hard as this during cold starts here in the US kinda jealous tbh

Didn't the Romanian built 56's have braking issues, that needed to be rectified.

30 of the early 56 were built in romania (56 001 to 56 030) and they were built at a low quality standard and had to be taken out of service for extensive rebuilds...

Try using a block heater

The UK doesn't get cold enough that you _need_ a block heater (as in, the engine will start eventually, without one) and they used to just leave the things idling the whole time.
Did I count 4 failed attempts at starting it ?
only 240p ?? in 2013 ??

@@ThingsWithEngines Scrap this loco now due to global warming and climate change. This must be cut apart and the scrap sent for melting down and recycling.

@@46harry They do. Nothing wrong with rail transport, but we need to be looking at optimal means of traction such as hydrogen or electric generated from more renewables.
Its a worse starter than my Mk1 1500 cortina !
Polar Ice Caps have officially melted away....scrap it for gods sake.

If your car had of done over 5 million miles there would be no engine left to run let alone smoke lmao

It's a bit harder to start a 240-litre engine than your little car. Plus, there were less than 150 of these things in the whole country, so they have much less of an impact than the tens of millions of cars.
