Really enjoyed this stream! So much so that I have started my own 2,500+ challenge. This is my first time playing the game, but I have watched all of your videos (which makes me a pro??). LA (3030 trips), Beijing (2809), Tokyo (3322), and London (2713) were all fairly okay. Then, Mumbai.... That took longer than I care to admit! But, after three finishes in the 2300s, last night I hit 2978 trips. Onwards to NYC!
@RetrofluxАй бұрын
Mumbai is/was ROUGH - I know I can make things look simple, but you really need a lot of strategy and a good amount of luck for that one. It's one of my favourite maps, though - there's a good mix of micro and macro decisions that you need to do.
@jacklayton92Ай бұрын
It was definitely the first map that pushed me to be brave in switching which destinations different populations were going to as the run progressed. A challenging but rewarding map for sure! Just think of all the human hours of trial and tribulation your content has generated 🤣

I went back to Civ and realized that I love certain gameplay choices done by Millenia: stacking units, regions, towns, outposts, envoys, vassals. However, have you had chance to enter the age of plague or age of heroes? One of them is whackamole on steroids and another goodie huts on steroids. I realized that I am tired of wacky randomization in these games and chasing randomly generated goals. Yes, generate random world, random nations, random resources, but then LEAVE IT BE to allow me to play STRATEGY not a WHACKAMOLE.

I disagree. Loved all the civ games and have almost 1000 h in civ 6, but Millennia beats it for me in every aspect. Civ 6 feels almost arcady/casual in comparison. The amount of variety and actual gameplay impacting decisions in Millennia is almost overwhelming at first. But once you get it it is so much fun. My tip would be - pretend Civ never existed and this is the first 4x you ever played. Start from scratch and I'll promise you, like me, you won't be able to stop playing it.
@RetrofluxАй бұрын
I will admit that there was a strong redirect to the 'arcady/casual' in civ 6; personally, I preferred civ5! That said, my underlying issue that the game still relies on knowledge as a means of dictating the game's direction doesn't change with all of the variety. This is a negative that exists in both civ and millennia, so perhaps I'm just bitter about it being in another 4X game. An ages system would do great to offer incentives like special units if you took a warmonger's path, or an allowance of multiple ages maybe? A combatant age pitting two concurrent ages against each other with significant negative effects for the loser would be an option to allow for something other than a knowledge slugfest. Just some ideas! I appreciate your perspective, regardless! Maybe I'll pick it up later, but not at the current price point.
@cmk9089Ай бұрын
As another comment has said. I have finished 1 game and around Turn 210 for another and I am quite enjoying the age system. I think the problem is, is that you are comparing this to Civs science system. Others having a science lead over you is not a death sentence like it is in Civ. In my game now I am an age behind but am still able to conquer others. And I personally believe this game is far better at making your choices matter. If you want to lead the world in science and usher in new ages, you have to put other things by the way side in order to do it. Meanwhile in civ things naturally progress better as your science increases. So I disagree about your choice argument, in fact I believe the opposite I quit civ awhile ago because it became a science optimization simulator that essentially played the same way every time because that was the only resource that mattered. Meanwhile as I said before being behind in knowledge is not a bad thing. You get buffs, and you are in position to build your civilization to the age rather then trying to determine the future.

A shame the game was a miss for you when you wanted to make content from it. Watching the gameplay explains a lot about why you were struggling though lol It was good to hear someone with concerns since a few of them have been in the back of my mind while playing (potentially missing dlc ages due to ai), but a few of them also felt like the result of not finding a few mechanics in your 2 hours. Better luck next time
@darkpraxisАй бұрын
Having Knowledge be the only game progression was a con for me as well. I think it's a con for Civ too. If this game had used all the different Domain points to further "Knowledge," at least then focusing on different play styles could progress the game. I truly hope Civ7 or another future 4X game can realize my dream of a game where just performing different the actions (constructing buildings, getting into combat, exploring the map, etc.) gains you Science/Knowledge for the tech/culture/whatever trees. I feel this game got really close to that with how the different Domain Points are earned and that was really interesting to me, but it fell into the same trap of using a single esoteric +X points per turn for game progression.

It's refreshing to hear an opinion from an unsponsored content creator I will say. And I obviously need to preface my opinion with the fact that I have not actually played the game myself. As a lover of the 4x genre and also as a pretty casual player, I'm quite excited to sink my teeth into this game when I get the chance. I feel like too many people put an emphasis on victory conditions and beating the game and meta tactics, so on and so forth. For myself, I tend to play 4x games for the ability to create a story of empires struggling amongst each other. I don't think it's necessarily important that a game always go the way you planned, and even less important that you 'win' a game. This is actually one of the reasons I find Civ games a little less appealing than for instance Stellaris. When playing a game of civ I find myself trying to optimize everything to create those victory conditions, and I kind of lose the plot. Personally (and once again I haven't actually played the game, so grain of salt here), I feel like this is where millennia will shine in comparison, it seems like a game that is much more about creating a world where there is a plot, an interesting world that you as a player may not be 100% percent in control of how the world is developing. And I honestly think that's more interesting and ultimately more fun. Are you gonna lose more often? Absolutely. But I really feel like gamers have lost the joy that can come from losing, it's an essential part of playing games (the ability to lose graciously I mean). Just my two cents, hope there was something in there that strikes a cord.
