You can tell he was being honest. He wanted to split, but knew she’d steal, so he picked steal to block her. Not only from his body language and how he talked during their conversation, but him smiling when he found out & at the end when she said she’d be upset about it for a long time, tells that he was happy he blocked her and that was all he was trying to do. If he truly wanted to steal and be greedy, he would’ve been upset like her, too.

But you don`t know that the other person is going to steal. As Gasper intimates, you have no control over your opponent`s decision. The best you can hope for is that your opponent splits, on the grounds that if he/she steals you go home with nothing notwithstanding any decision you yourself have made. Apart from altruism I can find no reason other than to steal.
@OnMentalАй бұрын
@@dogwithwigwamz.7320 True. I guess I just meant that he picked up on clues and seemed pretty confident. But you are right - the show is very flawed. Statistically it makes no sense to pick split, and if your opponent steals there is nothing you can do about it

@@OnMental I`m of the altruistic type ( but not yet a Saint ) so I`d steal and genuinely offer my opponent half (or maybe 1/3 of the prize money ) once the curtains came down. In some situations I`d give my opponent all of `it.` I`ve worked a full day and come home with a pocket full of money, seen a beggar half freezing and given that person without a home I`ll I earned that day. 30 years ago I bought my first home on a mortgage. At that time I had a dear friend who lived rather a large distance away from me, but they found a few days off work and came to stay for a couple of days. During those couple of days my friend ( who died in May, 2003 ) asked me if I`d mind telling them how much my house cost me to purchase ( via mortgage ). That was a close friendship. I told them how much my home was costing me in total and the repayments per month to the Bank ( at that point actually Leeds and Holbeck Building Society ). My friend said to me that they would buy my home for me and instead of me owing the Bank x£100000..... and repaying y£1000.... per month, my friend would ask only that I repaid them £ 50 a month. Who wouldn`t be delighted ? After a couple of months of sending a coulpe of cheques my friend wrote to me telling me that they`d had received enough cheques from me - and `forget it.` In short the friend bought me my first home. I was 32, living in England, and had already had my first house bought and paid for by one of the most selfless friends I`ve ever known. I go on - forgive me. I think that it being flawed is what makes the show. Bear in mind I may be a liar. Farewell, friend.

I`m still in two minds about this. If I`m the mercenary I`m going to think that " If I steal and my opponent steals then I get nothing. If I steal and my opponent shares I get 100% of what lies on the table. If I split and my opponent steals I walk away with nothing. I have no control over what decision my opponent is going to come to. Ergo, I steal. Personally I wouldn`t believe a thing any woman said to me except when she tells me that she loves me. But I would only believe her words then when she knew I had a couple of million quid in liquid f`ing assets.

The guy was obviously going to steal. Tried really hard to conceal the ball when he looked, never actually said he was going to split and then sniggered just before. The woman was a better liar, and promised to split - not many people can tell a bare faced lie like that. Ultimately, it was heartening to see them both get what they deserved.
