    Would just like to say that Peggy is actually my mother, saw comments bellow about her dying shortly after the show...this is NOT true. Mum actually passed away on the 28th of December 2013. All I can say on this matter is that she was totally gutted, she put her trust in this woman and was willing to do the good and honest thing of sharing. My Mum would never have considered doing anything less. This show is the perfect measure of a persons nature! My Mum was truly well loved and respected for all she did in life, don't think Karla would ever be able to say that?! Hey ho, Karma will have it's way. Mum, you'll be a always in a winner in my eyes! x

    the person who wins will only have bad people around them for the rest of their lives. £100,000 may sound nice but when you have no one decent around you and you have exposed yourself to the whole world then it really isn't. As a bonus she will come to learn very quickly that she cannot trust anyone and anyone who "harms" her can justify it (not that it is right - but it could be justified mentally) by watching this. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

    You have to realize that Stealing isn't all greed. You have to combat the possibility that the other person may choose Steal as well. Splitting ensures that your opponent walks away with money and stealing ensures that they walk away with nothing. If you suspect them of stealing, then you should Steal as well. It's not just about you, your life situation, and motives, it's also about theirs.

    Not true at all. If you think choosing STEAL is 100% greed, then you have a trivial understanding of the game. You can choose STEAL to prevent your opponent from stealing. It's not about what you want, it's about what you think your opponent will do.

    You obviously don't grasp the whole premise of this Game Show. Trust, the elderly lady could quite have easily picked steal in the other lady's mind. So because she didn't trust a comparative stranger, she chose the 'safe' option. There is a massive difference between not trusting or believing someone you hardly know to being an inhumane person. Hence your generalization was unfounded. "Thinking of her children" - her words not mine. And stating the results of a Television Game Show prove the lack of compassion between the species is completely ridiculous.

    No, no it doesn't. It gives you the choice between all or nothing, versus half or nothing. The other person is by default an unknown variable, giving you a mathematical pressure toward schoosing steal. Any idea of predicting the other player is rendered null by this pressure, because they're subjected to it as well, and they know you are, making it in their interest to choose steal, and raising the pressure even higher. Steal is presented as the selfish option and people boo it, but it is the choice of the scared and powerless person as well. The game is set up for you to lose.

    When you say "she could have got nothing" that is super flawed. While she is greedy, if you look at game theory, and the "dominant strategy", it is to steal. Think about it - stealing always has the better outcome: If you steal and opponent splits - you get all 90k If you steal and opponent steals - you get nothing (but if your opponent steals, no matter what you get nothing). Obviously, stealing is the most greedy thing you can do, but from a business perspective, it is the correct strategy

    I understand the theory that stealing is the 'dominant strategy' to secure the best financial outcome, but it's essential to distinguish between the strategy and the contestant's motivations. While it's true that in the context of the game, stealing could be seen as a rational choice, her subsequent comment about thinking of her kids raises questions about her true intentions. Her remark about her kids may have been an attempt to justify her choice or elicit sympathy. From my perspective her her goal was personal gain rather than altruism @@nikplaysgames4734

    @@nikplaysgames4734Have you ever thought about what your opponent might think? Sure, from a selfish point of view, stealing is always the correct outcome, but if both opponents are selfish, then neither is going home with the money. In the end, you both end up with nothing because you made a choice based on your self interest, which is hilarous because if you both had trusted each other, you'd both walk away with half of the money each.

But if you look at it from a selfish (aka business) POV, stealing will always have the same or better outcome for you - no matter what your opponent does In the end, it doesn't matter what your opponent goes home with, it only matters what you go home with

  • @loren5432

    @loren5432

    7 ай бұрын

    @@nikplaysgames4734 It's not a better outcome. You're talking about screwing the other person over, not about winning the money. You're locking yourself in a worse situation if you both thought like that. The order of results from best to worst is like this: *You go home with all the money: Steal. *You go home with half the money: Split. *You go home with nothing but neither does your opponent: Steal. *You go home with nothing, but your opponent gets all the money for themselves: Split. Because Split locks you in the 2nd and 4th option, from a logical point someone would choose Steal. The problem is, as I said, it isn't just you the one who's playing the game, your opponent is also probably the thinking the same thing. If you both had trusted each other, you both would have ended up with the second option, but because you've made a choice based in your self interest, you're both going to end up with the third option, which is worse than the second one. The fourth option is just there to scare you into picking Steal, but the reality of the game is that you can actually benefit if you trust your opponent instead of trying to only think about yourself.

    Can someone explain as to why you wouldn't always pick steal? Either way its a 50/50 that you're going to go away with money, but with the steal option the 50/50 win is double the amount. The only reason you'd pick split is to make sure that one of you goes away with money (and maybe out of the kindness to your opponent but then again it is a game) but in that case the one you're playing against has a 100% chance of getting money with 50% chance of them getting your money aswell which would be the worst outcome possible and is easily avoidable by just picking steal. There's literally no reason to trust your opponent and eitherway you pick there's a 50% chance that you walk away with money, but the steal option gives you twice the amount even at the cost of the one you're playing with which you really shouldn't care about since its just a game.
