Alexis Lefèvre For sure, I'm overtly generous, but I have a savage temper if I'm crossed by someone. This show would end in violence if I were on it. So much greed, it's greed that's the cause of all suffering.

+Alexis Lefevre Actually, you've missed the entire point of the show (you got it backwards). If the show did indeed reward greedy people, then everyone who picks "Steal" would have won the game, and you know that the two contestants get nothing if both of them pick "Steal". It's a prisoner's dilemma. There's no "Right" or "Wrong" choice in this game. Being selfish is the same as being cooperative.

I think the best way to tell if someone is going to steal is if they don't seem cautious whatsoever. Of course being overly suspicious is also another indicator I think. But mostly, if a person doesn't seem like they have any reservations about the agreement to "split" then it seems to me that it inevitably means that they are just trying to be as convincing as possible and just trying to get through to the reveal, as I'm sure it's hard to sit there and keep staring someone in the eyes knowing you are about to rob them.

I am an economics student and from the study of 'game theory', I know for a fact that 'Steal' is always the best option. If you choose 'Split' then you can either win 50% or 0% and if you choose 'Steal', you either get 100% or 0%. Although 'Steal' is undesirable from a community point of view, both individuals have a strong personal incentive to choose 'Steal' as this is the only dominant strategy. Also by choosing 'Steal', you remove the misery of potentially getting robbed.

As someone has already mention in the comments section; he lied every round, so he wasn't particularly the easiest person to try and trust. Maybe she didn't trust him, either way she was going to leave with nothing however, and this is in hindsight, at least by picking the 'steal' ball it would ensure that he would also go home with nothing.

With your nice logical skills and your big egos, you would both use your best poker face to convince each other you are going to split, but would both go home with nothing and your tail between your legs. I don't think losing a TV game would sound like a very logical move in your life.

@BaZ : True . Splitting wins you either all or nothing ( average 50% of jackpot). Splitting wins you either half or nothing ( average 25% of Jackpot ). I noticed the split ball is the one in the right of the contestant, and the steal ball is the one on the left. So the contestant knows the others' decision before they reveal the inside. The game is fair, however, because they make their choices simultaneously.

If they have a deep conversation, and actually say meaningful things they split. But the ones who agree, and get straight to the point, and have the fake smile after everything the other one says will steal. Sometimes the other person will recognize this and also choose steal, but in this case the old lady didn't read the obvious clues. Which sucks

Choosing the worse option in all aspects doesn't make you a nice guy, it makes you a dumb guy. If you were so nice you could choose steal and split the money after the show, avoiding the chance of somebody grabbing it all. Either way, if you want 50 or 100%, doesn't matter. There isn't a single benefit from choosing split.

@philnoll moving onto wealth, we have to consider the question, would you rather have 95%chance to make 100 billion pounds? or 50% chance to make 200 Billion pounds. Technically you're getting better odds to take the 200 billion choice. but the fact of the matter is, there isnt much you cant buy with 100 billion. you cant really do more with 200 billion. the further you move down the money scale the bigger the gap is. 27000 pounds more or 7000 pounds less.

The presenter said ''wow that's a shock isn't it?'' sarcastically I assume because that guy was BLATANTLY lying. Can't believe she actually trusted him after that shambolic performance.

@philnoll okay, well first of all lets adress the matter of how much do YOU value this persons friendship. The persons friendship is all that is at stake because they do not need this money to live. the big question is how much do you actually care? Also it is important to work out a guilt to wealth ratio. Now, wealth is relative to all families, im sure the queen would split either way. but a small family with barely enough to eat, thats a different story.

@BazTruBlu Logically, it doesn't make sense. But if you are a good person, it makes perfect sense to split.
