Trial N' ERROR

Trial N' ERROR

I call it Trial N' Error because that's where my "knowledge" comes from. I'm handy with just about everything but a master of nothing so don't expect to see much done the proper way. I started Trial N' Error in 2008 as a way to share my first custom frame off restoration. Since then the channel has grown in quite a few different directions but the core values are the same. Building cool stuff yourself to save money and learn a new skill in the process. No, most likely it wont be done the "right" way. Yes many corners will be cut. We will measure once and cut twice. Plan A, B and C will all most likely fail miserably; but, in the end, the result will be awesome. We will learn a new skill and learn what NOT to do. We will be able to take pride in the accomplishment and still save a fortune compared to the clown that "did it the right way". This is Trial N' Error and if your wired the same way, we're going to build great things together by getting it right...the wrong way!

    I have one of those fuel tanks and the hose kinked near the attachment to the tank. I have to use some vice grips to hold it open now. Also, the tank never completely empties. It always has about 1/2 a gallon in the bottom.

    Nice setup with turning the amps on and off. My one suggestion is that it would probably be much safer to have the Solid State Relays trigger a multi-stage power conditioner, such as a furman PS-8R. Keeps all the high voltage contained in a metal, fire proof case, and staggers start up to avoid a surge with all the amps turning on at once. I personally use those same SSRs on my setup at home to trigger my power conditoners on. I don't think I could trust those cheap SSRs with line voltage.

Peer in through the threaded hole on the ST 3614 vs the 52-050-012 and you'll notice the exact same metal grid pattern holding back the same looking paper media. (ST 3614 is the knock off to Fram 3614 BTW). Enjoy and keep posting tip$ my friends...we're all in this together.

    I've had it happen early on when I didn't pay much attention to the routing of the fuse. Some basic common sense solved that. Tape the fuse to the case at intervals to keep it from flopping around and you'll be good.

I couldn't find anything on google or youtube about it. I finally downloaded a manual and found it in the assembly instructions. I am very grateful, and a little red faced. The Vevor seat was the perfect choice. Thanks.

    That is a wonderful video. very educational. I like that you have the equipment a hobbyist would be looking at. The big names are great equipment, but more money that most of us need. I do like that you have all the safety gear, and the fire extinguisher in the drawer. If you do another video, the safety aspect would be great to cover. The splatter and UV protection , the fire safety as many home garages may have flammable equipment nearby. If I had 1 question, you mention the Lincoln 110v welder as a great start, What about starting with the Hxzvogen 2280? It is both 120 or 240, flux core or MIG, and has the synergy welding to assist you in setting up the welder for the metal and wire thickness. It can even help you learn the settings as the voltage, amperage, and wire speed are all shown when you select the synergy function.

    To reduce intake deposits use better oil and fuel. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is my recommendation. Never switch brands of oil. The additive packages of various brands fight each other. Use top tier gas only and a fuel system cleaner every 20k or so. The more you use the turbos the sooner you need to change the oil. Get a transmission skid plate to slow down the catalytic converter thieves. Install Bilstein Shocks. If you use your truck for hauling and towing don’t “level” it. It will get level when a trailer is hitched up in a load of gravel is dumped in. Nothing says “Poser” like a useless leveled truck tail dragging down the highway. 😜 Drive it until fully warmed up at least once a week. Short trips and low mileage are bad for these trucks. The battery will die, condensation and fuel dilution will contaminate the oil.

    Testing the generator output to the Sunny Island inverters to charge the battery (SOH) at 20%... probably not good. I noticed that the Midnite Solar Charge Controller went immediately to 0000watts from the solar panels - if the generator is operating and charging there must be an interrupt between controller and SMA inverters. Is this correct to think? I am going to run for 20 minutes and see if the SOH (I thought it was SOC - state of charge) comes up a few percentages. Maybe the batteries are toast. Multimeter show 48.8. With the generating operating the front battery shows a voltage of 57.8v-58.2v and rear battery is 58v-59.02v with generator on and SMA's pushing 1-2.2kw.

  • @Trialnerror
    @Trialnerror17 күн бұрын

    Makes sense but you can get around that by putting the Midnight into "EQ" mode. The genny is just boosting the voltage up to a point where the Midnight thinks the battery is full, even though they are not.

  • @rongray4118
    @rongray411818 күн бұрын

    What manufacturer, watt size and voltage are your panels? I was looking at your layout and trying to figure out how each string was laid out on the roof. We will be installing our array on top of a 40' container - you are to be commended on the install on your roof! Fantastic job!! We picked up a used (cannabolized) DC Solar Trailer with the SMA's and wiring in the single box. The ten panels will need to be replaced and I am trying to figure out the type and how many panels we should use per SMA to increase output. Your (4) Midnite Solar Charge Controllers are just plugging away! WoW!! I think we should be looking into purchasing a second Midnite Solar Charge Controller if each SMA will perform better than the single on the trailer. Thanks for posting your video!
