    Not the overlay function yet, but yes the basic note graphing function is in the current 10.09 firmware and you can edit the graphs in the editor to be whatever you like as static graphs. Osmose presets do not use BiqGraphs for note playing but BiqGraphs work fine on Osmose. A few Osmose presets do use graphs to change the harmonic content of the input where you can adjust up to 48 harmonics under program control (the original use for them). You can also use the graphs for create an arbitrary envelope/function generator with any shape you can think of.

    @@XeloX58 That is the whole point of overlays when they are available for use (they require new firmware not out yet). Overlays will let you twiddle knobs, rotaries, sliders, and buttons to change a preset's configuration. You won't have to deal with changing anything in the EaganMatrix. But for now if you want to do this kind of thing you have to program it in the EaganMatrix.

    It's possible but I have no idea what EE is planning. The Osmose here is just playing the EaganMatrix module that has a preset that the Electra One has total control over. No. The new firmware is not out yet unless you have an 8x continuum that requires a version later than 10.09 but even in that case there are still things to work out so better to wait until this is formally released. But when released it will run on all EaganMatrix devices that are 2X DSP or more (that includes EMM and ContinuuMini). The Electra One can still be used with the current 10.09 to have all macros and other parameters available on one screen, but there are something perhaps a BeatStep does better right now (Electra does not have push button operation for example - that has to be programmed). So If you have a controller you are using now with EMM, you don't really need an Electra One.

    I think the problem at 6:00 is that there's a little bug in the firmware where Y sometimes does not reset to exactly 0 but very close to it. Even though that's a very small number it's enough to have Y create a sustaining tone. This is why it's always best on Osmose if you have a Y+Z formula to scale that by a gated W which will make sure everything goes to zero when lifting your finger and it also makes the formula compatible with Continuum where Y stays at its last position when you lift your finger. Of course sometimes you can't do this if you are using W for some other purpose in that formula, but if W is a shape generator that will default to zero as well normally if you use it as a multiplier on a Y+Z formula (but not always).

    Thanks for doing these Videos! Just now getting into Eagan Matrix programming with the Osmose. As an analog synth guy, it does bug me a bit, that there is no easy way to just blend between sawtooth, triangle and square waves. Ideally, I'd have a "Virtual Analog Oscillator" with inputs for shape and oscillator drift (to simulate vintage synth behavior). Currently I'm programming all of these manually (using wave banks and blending levels on the filter input), which is quite frustrating for such a seemingly simple task. Also, I'm quickly running out of dsp power and macros. Another thing I do miss is being able to saturate my oscillator waveforms before the filter. I can use the submix for this, but then i also have my effects pre-filter, which is a bit weird... Do you have any special programming tricks up your sleeve specifically for us analog guys? :D

  • @eaganmatrixprogramming
    @eaganmatrixprogramming3 ай бұрын

    It is its own thing. If you want to mix waveforms like that use something else. There are a million options. Don't try and turn it into an analog modular. Change your mindset for how this works. There are changes in the works to increase formulas, etc. but no release dates yet. Depending on the Spectral balance setting on the OSCs you can get a more triangle vs saw harmonic content (the waveform will not look like a triangle or saw as its DSF). I would try using DFS OSCs at different Spectral Balance settings to see if you get a sound you like which is in effect a mix of different harmonic spectra vs. saw vs triangle, etc. You can do the same with the Jenny OSC which can produce some interesting mixtures. In terms of Wavebanks, you can play with the harmonic weighting to get different mixture like sounds.

  • @eaganmatrixprogramming

    Also in general you will be a lot better off thinking about how you manipulate harmonic spectra than waveforms as so much of the Matrix is geared for that.

I do think the eagan matrix engine is quite powerful, though, and a "simple" VA oscillator could add a lot to the sonic palette.

    @@JBrm Not just additive synthesis per se. Many of the EaganMatrix components like BiqBank and BigGraph have operations that filter based on harmonic spectra. For example the BiqGraph can let you manipulate individual harmonics of a sound and the BiqBank lets you manipulate spectral peaks and amplitude and frequency spreads, etc. There are at least five different sound generation and filtering techniques used on the EaganMatrix. I rarely use an Oscillosope to look at EaganMatrix sounds, but I use a spectrum analyzer all the time. For example if you look at one of the OSCs that you set to a saw-like wound, it will not look anything like a sawtooth wave, thought it will have a similar harmonic content of it. Only the Wavebanks will look like waveforms you are used to.

    Hi, How can i do this with my EAGANMATRIX module and ableton? THx :)

  • @eaganmatrixprogramming
    @eaganmatrixprogramming4 ай бұрын

    There is no arpeggiator on the EaganMatrix module. It is Osmose specific. You play the module over MPE on channels 2-9 or standard Midi on channel 1, so Midi clock has no meaning. The module will play notes at whatever speed Ableton sends them. The one thing you can do in the matrix is sync EaganMatrix Shape Generators to an external Midi Clock. You can find that in the manual and there's a video somewhere here that addresses that.

    @@eaganmatrixprogramming So this is from modulargrid "This versatile module can act as a sound source, a sound processor, a CV source (via connection to an external Control Voltage Converter), a Midi source, or a customizable combination of all these capabilities" is it possible to use it as a cv to midi converter? i don't really mind but since its great as is but if in modular it can be a clock or cv to midi device that would be a bonus!

  • @eaganmatrixprogramming
    @eaganmatrixprogramming4 ай бұрын

    @@kevindewinter8235 It can function as a CV to Midi converter. If you play over CV, the monophonic output will be by default sent out Midi TRS and USB ports cycling MPE channels. Set MPE priority to low to output on channel 2 only. Take your module out of MPE mode in I/O settings by setting Z=CC11 for example and then your Midi monophonic output will be on channel 1. I would set dynamic velocity as well there or output will use a constant velocity=127.

    When I try to save the preset, I am asked to pay for a max subscription, but I saw previously that Osmose owners needn't pay for Max. Please advise?

  • @eaganmatrixprogramming

    You don't have to pay to just use the demo version for editor only use. I assume you are saving the preset in the editor not trying to save something in MAX itself. You have to pay to try and create and save MAX programs in MAX.

    Very nice series of videos! Do these tutorials also apply to the Osmose Expressive E?

  • @eaganmatrixprogramming
    @eaganmatrixprogramming8 ай бұрын

    Yes. The Osmose EaganMatrix Sound engine is identical to a 6x Continuum though there are differences in how Z and Y are treated on Osmose so I have a few Osmose specific videos that explain differences in programming vs. Continuum. But the basic sound engine components and programming of them are otherwise identical. There are also differences in rounding and a few other editor functions that the Osmose does not support as it has on board configuration for a number of things that are different from continuum operation.

    Around 7:30 you forgot to add that you were assigning the w to macro controller i at this step. This had me rewinding, trying to follow it for some time before I realised what you had done. Also your secondary setting doesn't seem to have been assigned to the macro controller i. Is this correct?

    Important: I noticed at 21.35, the video was cut off and resumed with something changed behind the scenes, no idea what (on top of a small change that you can see W was 0.05 before and now 0.061). Problem is that when I continue your tutorial from then on and adjust the C Formula with Y setting instructions you give and then press the Osmose keys on my synth to hear back the result (like you do at 22.00), the result of the sound is not the same on my side. The aftertouch Y takes my sound from one pitch to another. Do you remember if you changed something else at that cut off part in the video? Thank you.
